"Advancing Digital Humanities moves beyond definition of this dynamic and fast growing field to show how its arguments, analyses, findings and theories are pioneering new directions in the humanities globally. Sections cover digital methods, critical curation and research futures, with theoretical and practical chapters framed around key areas of activity including modelling collections, data-driven analysis, and thinking through building. These are linked through the concept of 'ambitious generosity,' a way of working to pursue large-scale research questions while supporting and enabling other research areas and approaches, both within and beyond the academy"--

"Like most academic discourses, the Digital Humanities are a conversation in flux. Some would argue that the Digital Humanities are already a well-established field, pointing to the 20-year history of Humanities Computing. Others (me) see a new breed of academic with skills in both technology and the traditional humanities (the Platform Studies and Software Studies series), while others might indeed see this as a last gasp for the Modern Language Association's relevance. The point is that this is a conversation and, as such, various voices need to be heard. In David Goldberg and Patrik Svensson's Between Humanities and the Digital Age, more than 40 authors contribute to this discussion from a global, cross-disciplinary perspective. Describing the breadth and depth of how the humanities engage with the digital and information technology (including discipline-specific studies and perspectives, research infrastructure, innovative tools, creative expression and activist engagement), Between Humanities and the Digital 'demonstrates the diversity of research and theory building that lies between the existence of digital technologies and humanistic perspectives on knowledge generation'"--Provided by publisher

"The Digital Humanities is a comprehensive introduction and practical guide to how humanists use the digital to conduct research, organize materials, analyze, and publish findings. It summarizes the turn toward the digital that is reinventing every aspect of the humanities among scholars, libraries, publishers, administrators, and the public. Beginning with some definitions and a brief historical survey of the humanities, the book examines how humanists work, what they study, and how humanists and their research have been impacted by the digital and how, in turn, they shape it. It surveys digital humanities tools and their functions, the digital humanists' environments, and the outcomes and reception of their work. The book pays particular attention to both theoretical underpinnings and practical considerations for embarking on digital humanities projects. It places the digital humanities firmly within the historical traditions of the humanities and in the contexts of current academic and scholarly life"--

Semantic fields are lexically coherent – the words they contain co-occur in texts. In this book the authors introduce and define semantic domains, a computational model for lexical semantics inspired by the theory of semantic fields. Semantic domains allow us to exploit domain features for texts, terms and concepts, and they can significantly boost the performance of natural-language processing systems. Semantic domains can be derived from existing lexical resources or can be acquired from corpora in an unsupervised manner. They also have the property of interlinguality, and they can be used to relate terms in different languages in multilingual application scenarios. The authors give a comprehensive explanation of the computational model, with detailed chapters on semantic domains, domain models, and applications of the technique in text categorization, word sense disambiguation, and cross-language text categorization. This book is suitable for researchers and graduate students in computational linguistics.
