Die Wiener Ausgabe bietet eine kritische Gesamtedition seines Werkes, wie sie von der Forschung seit langem gefordert wird. Ediert werden alle abgeschlossenen und Fragment gebliebenen Werke sowie sämtliche Briefe und Lebensdokumente des Autors. Die gesicherten Endfassungen der Texte, die genaue Darlegung ihres Entstehungsprozesses und die philologische Neubewertung vieler Quellen geben einen veränderten Blick auf das Werk, die Arbeitsweise und die Biographie des Autors frei. Ödön von Horváth (1901–1938) is one of the 20th century's most highly regarded writers. The Vienna Edition provides the critical edition of his complete works which scholars have been demanding for a long time. The edition contains all of Horváth's completed and uncompleted works together with all the author's letters and biographical documents. The secure final versions of the texts, the exact account of the process of their composition and the critical re-evaluation of many sources reveal a different view of Horváth's work, his way of working and his biography.
