Religion Predicting Fertility Behaviour of Young Women in Contemporary GermanyReligion in contemporary Germany is marked by institutionalized outreach as well as increased pluralisation. Religion can thus play a decisive role in fertility behaviour, despite of secularizing tendencies. Religion may influence the debut and frequency of sexual activity, contraceptive behaviour, cohabitation and marriage. Religious rules on alcohol consumption relate to the likelihood of miscarriages; religious values transmit into abortion laws. This fertility behaviour determines the time when young women have their first live birth. Using data from the German Panel Analysis of Intimate Relationships and Family Dynamics, the paper explores whether being Catholic, Protestant, Muslim or non‐religious shapes fertility patterns of young women in contemporary Germany. The paper extends earlier analyses by integrating miscarriages and abortions, rather than limiting the analysis to births. Results show that Muslims are the youngest when becoming pregnant for the first time. Protestants delay first pregnancy, but once being pregnant, Protestants are more likely to carry their first pregnancy to term rather than having an abortion. With respect to first pregnancy and its outcome, Catholics surprisingly compare to non‐religious women. Against the background of increasing immigration from religiously vivid countries to Germany, the relation between religion and fertility behaviour is likely to remain significant.

In this paper, we investigate the working conditions of the young women working as assistants in the food vending sector in Tanzania using interviews and focus group discussions which are supplemented with quantitative survey. Data were collected in the municipalities of Nyamagana and Ilemela in Mwanza Region, Northern Tanzania, and from officers working with the government and insurance fund organizations in Dodoma region, central Tanzania, from August to September 2020. The results show that young women's working conditions are poor and that they continue working in the sector on the basis of resilience. Young women's poor working conditions are caused by several actors including their employers, central, and local government. The main causes of poor working conditions in street food vending are: informality, low salary, uncertainty of pay, long working hours, poor physical environment, lack of training, job insecurity, lack of legal recognitions, unclear legal status, lack of social security and protection. The emergence of the coronavirus disease has further increased their vulnerability. The government can improve their working conditions by establishing an authority/agency responsible for managing the informal sector, business formalization, reviewing the municipal councils' bylaws that are prohibitive, and establish vending zones. Street food vendors' employers have to improve vendors' salary, improve physical working environment, use participatory management approach, reduce number of working hours, and consider the rights of employees.

This study analyses the employment and income situation of Young Women MINT Professionals (YWMP) in small and medium-sized establishments. The results show that YWMP are strongly under-represented, somewhat less in micro and large establishments than in small and medium-sized ones. The extent to which they are represented also depends on the sector to which the establishment belongs, the profession they pursue and the level of qualification required. YWMP's employment opportunities are good when women make up a large proportion of the workforce, women are represented in management and the establishment implements gender equality measures. YWMP earn less than their male counterparts. However, the gender pay gap is smaller than in the private sector as a whole and not more pronounced in smaller enterprises than in larger ones.
