(Current) Research Projects ; fp The general aim of the Corvey Project is to create a fuller and more accurate picture of women's literary production in the period 1790-1840. To this end, the material in the English-language belles-lettres section of the Corvey collection will be investigated: the diversity of women's writing in this period, the ways in which such writings draw on or re-formulate existing models, the ways in which they engage with contemporary intellectual and cultural debates, and the changing ideologies of femininity as realised by women's writing of the period. In addition to these broad concerns, the project has two related immediate objectives: to produce an annotated catalogue of works by women writers in the collection, which will provide descriptive, analytic, biographical and bibliographical information and to expand the catalogue using hypermedia. (Two examples by now: Letitia Elizabeth Landon and Eliza Parsons).

Libraries ; lb 'Novels-On-Line is an ongoing project making freely accessible full-text transcripts of some of the rarest works in the Chawton House Library collection. These texts, which explore such broad-ranging themes as satire, slavery, marriage, witchcraft and piracy, signal the rich texture and innovative character of women's writing in the period 1600 to 1830. In bringing these little-known novels to a wider audience, it is hoped to stimulate interest in these works amongst a new generation of readers and to encourage critical scholarship of some of the more obscure texts and authors represented in the collection.'

(Current) Research Projects ; fp 'The Perdita Project is a collaborative project funded until 2005 by the AHRB in conjunction with Nottingham Trent University and Warwick University. The Project has produced an online guide to over 500 manuscript compilations in collections around the world. The Perdita Project, established in January 1997 by Nottingham Trent University, has purchased a microfilm collection of about 400 manuscripts compiled by women in the British Isles. These manuscripts were compiled during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and consist of poetry, religious writing, autobiographical material, cookery and medical recipes, and accounts. We have completed a catalogue, published on the Internet, which offers bibliographical information and detailed descriptions of contents for the information of historians and literary scholars. The catalogue also includes the team's research on the manuscripts and their compilers.'

This volume identifies a new genre of American fiction, the rape novel, that recentres narratives of sexual violence on the survivors of violence and abuse, rather than the perpetrators. The rape novel arose during the women's liberation movement as women writers collectively challenged the traditional erasure of female subjectivity and agency found in earlier representations of sexual violence in American fiction. The rape novel not only foregrounds survivors and their stories in a textual centering that affirms their dignity and self-worth, but also develops new narratological strategies for portraying violent, disturbing subject matter. In bringing together many key women's texts of the last decades of the 20th century, the rape novel demonstrates the centrality of sexual assault to women's fiction of this era.
