Dutch literature "Vraag iemand naar de zin van het leven en hij antwoordt met het verhaal van zijn leven." Met deze uitspraak van de Hongaarse schrijver György Konrad opende 'Nauwgezet en Wanhopig' van Wim Kayzer - een legendarische tv-serie vooral bekend bij literatuurliefhebbers. In de vele manieren waarop we zin en betekenis zoeken blijkt het narratieve een belangrijke rol te spelen. Soetaert presenteert een (b)logboek waarin hij de vraag 'wat is een verhaal' vervangt door 'wat wordt er over verhalen in verhalen verteld'? Het antwoord zoekt hij in boeken en films, in hoge en lage cultuur, in woord en beeld, in computergames en soaps... En last but not least: op het Internet als een nieuwe verhalenmachine. Kortom: vraag iemand naar de zin van verhalen, en hij vertelt nog een verhaal. De jaarlijkse Tiele-lezing, waarin actuele thema's uit de boekwetenschap worden belicht, wordt georganiseerd door de Dr P.A. Tiele-Stichting in samenwerking met de Koninklijke Bibliotheek in Den Haag. Eerdere Tiele-lezingen werden gehouden door Gerard Unger (2004), Joost Kist (2005) en "http://www.aup.nl/do.php?a=show_visitor_book&isbn=9789053569061">Ludo Simons (2006).

Literature traditionally holds a special place in society. This fact can be ascribed especially to literature’s unique capability to urge its audience and readers to allow a voice other than their own to resound within. And yet, literature’s role raises questions regarding one’s responsibility and engagement – questions that nearly every generation asks itself time and again with an ever changing urgency. Eight literary scholars from the research group ‘Literature – Ethics – Law’ (Ghent University) focus on this complex dialogue between literature and ethics. In the process, they arrive at answers that tease out crucial historical developments (from Plato to HIV/AIDS-prose), while also attending to the impact of methodological reevaluations during the search for such answers.

FfugLen is the Welsh word for fiction but is also a play on the words 'ffug' (meaning fake or false) and 'len' (the prepositive of 'llenyddiaeth' or literature) implying that these images are often ambiguous. This title presents a study of the image of Wales and the Welsh in twentieth-century Welsh-language literature. Mae 'FfugLen' yn ymdrin â'r ddelwedd o Gymru mewn ystod eang o nofelau Cymraeg a gyhoeddwyd rhwng 1960 a 1990. Mae llawer o'r nofelau yn nofelau hanes ac eraill yn nofelau cyfoes. Mae'r ddelwedd yn ymwneud â'r priodoleddau hynny â megis iaith, tiriogaeth, crefydd, hanes a diwylliant â a gyfrifir fel arfer yn rhai cenhedlig. Ymdrinnir â'r ddelwedd hefyd yn ei chysylltiad â digwyddiadau hanesyddol a chyfoes penodol a gyflwynir yn y nofelau, ac yn ei chysylltiad â'r hyn a oedd yn digwydd yng Nghymru ar adeg cyhoeddi'r gwahanol nofelau.
