    Die Phänomenologie hat in der Literaturwissenschaft vielfältige Spuren hinterlassen. Ihre Bedeutung für die literaturwissenschaftliche Theoriebildung ist aber bislang unterbelichtet geblieben. Mit besonderem Augenmerk auf die Interpretationstheorie werden in dieser Arbeit zentrale Stationen der literaturwissenschaftlichen Rezeption der Phänomenologie rekonstruiert. Dies geschieht zum einen durch eine wissenschaftshistorische Kontextualisierung von prominenten Versuchen, die Phänomenologie für die Literaturwissenschaft fruchtbar zu machen. Ausgehend von Edmund Husserl wird für Roman Ingarden, Nicolai Hartmann, Emilio Betti, Emil Staiger, Wolfgang Iser, René Wellek und Eric Donald Hirsch gezeigt, wie Theoreme und Begriffe, aber auch theoriegeleitete Metaphern aus der Philosophie in die Literaturwissenschaft eingewandert sind und hier ihre ganz eigene Wirkung entfalten konnten. Zum anderen werden in systematischer Hinsicht Problemlösungsstrategien und Begründungsmodi in der literaturwissenschaftlichen Theoriebildung analysiert und vergleichend auf ihr theoretisches und methodisches Potential hin befragt. So leistet diese Arbeit einerseits einen Beitrag zur Aufarbeitung der Fachgeschichte, andererseits einen analytischen Beitrag zur aktuellen philologischen Hermeneutik

Manche dieser Operationen sind von Zeit- und Platzknappheit erzwungen, andere folgen dem ästhetischen Eigensinn, stehen im Dienst der Formalisierung oder der Konzentration auf Partikulares. Die hier versammelten Fallstudien nähern sich den Eigenheiten solcher Kleinformen über die zugrundeliegenden Verfahren der Reduktion, Selektion, Verdichtung und Transposition. Von einem dynamisierten Formkonzept ausgehend, suchen sie Antworten auf die Fragen: Wie wird das Kleine klein? Und wie wird es Form? Small forms are rarely "naturally" small, but rather come into being as "small forms" through processes of condensation and abbreviation.     Alfred Rahlfs (1865–1935) is among the most important textual philologists of the 20th century. His wide-ranging works in researching and editing the Greek Old Testament, known as the Septuagint, are still regarded as groundbreaking today. For the first time, this monograph comprehensively presents Rahlfs’s writings in their biographical and historical context Mit dem Namen von Alfred Rahlfs verbindet sich vor allem seine 1935 erschienene ‚Handausgabe', die noch immer als weltweit gebrauchte Standardedition der Septuaginta gilt. Demgegenüber geriet sein umfassendes wissenschaftliches Gesamtœuvre zunehmend in Vergessenheit, während seine Biographie bis heute weitgehend im Verborgenen geblieben ist. In der vorliegenden Monographie wird zum ersten Mal der Versuch unternommen, die gesamte Vielfalt der Rezensionen, Abhandlungen und Textausgaben von Rahlfs einer detaillierten werkgeschichtlichen Analyse zu unterziehen, an die sich eine synthetische Rekonstruktion seiner textkritischen und editionsphilologischen Methodik anschließt. Auf diese Weise werden die bahnbrechenden Erkenntnisse dieses großen Göttinger Gelehrten in ihrer bis ins 21. Jahrhundert reichenden wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Bedeutung für die Erforschung und kritische Edition des Septuaginta-Textes transparent, deren Verankerung in der Editionsphilologie des 19. Jh. ebenso wie ihre im institutionellen Rahmen des 1908 gegründeten Septuaginta-Unternehmens der Göttinger Akademie der Wissenschaften sich vollziehende Weiterentwicklung aus der erstmaligen vollständigen Darstellung seiner Biographie ersichtlich werden

    Römische Agrarhandbücher sind weit mehr als Medien zur Vermittlung von Sachwissen. Sie sind auch literarische Gebilde aus der Feder begabter Autoren samt dem damit verbundenen ästhetischen Anspruch und den literarischen Traditionen. Sie sind zugleich Ausdruck der gesellschaftspolitischen Sonderinteressen und des Habitus der politischen Elite Roms, die sich über ihren Landbesitz definiert. Außerdem streben sie immer wieder über das Banal-Sachliche hinaus nach einer ethischen Wertung und Durchdringung des bäuerlichen Handlungsraumes im Blick auf das Ganze einer Lebens- und Weltordnung. Silke Diederich untersucht das Spannungsfeld zwischen dem fachlichen Gegenstand mit seinen technischen und ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen, der literarisch-ästhetischen Form und dem sozio-kulturellen Umfeld. Sie betrachtet die Agrarhandbücher diachronisch auf drei Lektüreebenen: 1. als Sachbuch zwischen Theorie und Praxis, zwischen Wissenschaft und Magie, 2. als literarische Gattung zwischen Schriftlichkeit und Mündlichkeit, und 3. als moralisierende Selbstdarstellung einer Elite, ihrer Werthaltung, ihres Habitus, ihres gesellschaftlichen Anspruchs und dessen Verhältnis zur Realität

    Die Phänomenologie hat in der Literaturwissenschaft vielfältige Spuren hinterlassen. Ihre Bedeutung für die literaturwissenschaftliche Theoriebildung ist aber bislang unterbelichtet geblieben. Mit besonderem Augenmerk auf die Interpretationstheorie werden in dieser Arbeit zentrale Stationen der literaturwissenschaftlichen Rezeption der Phänomenologie rekonstruiert. Dies geschieht zum einen durch eine wissenschaftshistorische Kontextualisierung von prominenten Versuchen, die Phänomenologie für die Literaturwissenschaft fruchtbar zu machen. Ausgehend von Edmund Husserl wird für Roman Ingarden, Nicolai Hartmann, Emilio Betti, Emil Staiger, Wolfgang Iser, René Wellek und Eric Donald Hirsch gezeigt, wie Theoreme und Begriffe, aber auch theoriegeleitete Metaphern aus der Philosophie in die Literaturwissenschaft eingewandert sind und hier ihre ganz eigene Wirkung entfalten konnten. Zum anderen werden in systematischer Hinsicht Problemlösungsstrategien und Begründungsmodi in der literaturwissenschaftlichen Theoriebildung analysiert und vergleichend auf ihr theoretisches und methodisches Potential hin befragt. So leistet diese Arbeit einerseits einen Beitrag zur Aufarbeitung der Fachgeschichte, andererseits einen analytischen Beitrag zur aktuellen philologischen Hermeneutik

    Römische Agrarhandbücher sind weit mehr als Medien zur Vermittlung von Sachwissen. Sie sind auch literarische Gebilde aus der Feder begabter Autoren samt dem damit verbundenen ästhetischen Anspruch und den literarischen Traditionen. Sie sind zugleich Ausdruck der gesellschaftspolitischen Sonderinteressen und des Habitus der politischen Elite Roms, die sich über ihren Landbesitz definiert. Außerdem streben sie immer wieder über das Banal-Sachliche hinaus nach einer ethischen Wertung und Durchdringung des bäuerlichen Handlungsraumes im Blick auf das Ganze einer Lebens- und Weltordnung. Silke Diederich untersucht das Spannungsfeld zwischen dem fachlichen Gegenstand mit seinen technischen und ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen, der literarisch-ästhetischen Form und dem sozio-kulturellen Umfeld. Sie betrachtet die Agrarhandbücher diachronisch auf drei Lektüreebenen: 1. als Sachbuch zwischen Theorie und Praxis, zwischen Wissenschaft und Magie, 2. als literarische Gattung zwischen Schriftlichkeit und Mündlichkeit, und 3. als moralisierende Selbstdarstellung einer Elite, ihrer Werthaltung, ihres Habitus, ihres gesellschaftlichen Anspruchs und dessen Verhältnis zur Realität

Manche dieser Operationen sind von Zeit- und Platzknappheit erzwungen, andere folgen dem ästhetischen Eigensinn, stehen im Dienst der Formalisierung oder der Konzentration auf Partikulares. Die hier versammelten Fallstudien nähern sich den Eigenheiten solcher Kleinformen über die zugrundeliegenden Verfahren der Reduktion, Selektion, Verdichtung und Transposition. Von einem dynamisierten Formkonzept ausgehend, suchen sie Antworten auf die Fragen: Wie wird das Kleine klein? Und wie wird es Form? Small forms are rarely “naturally” small, but rather come into being as “small forms” through processes of condensation and abbreviation. The collected volume focuses on such operations of miniaturization.     Peter Damerow (1939–2011) was a visionary scholar of rare versatility. A key figure in the foundation and early development of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, he contributed to fields as wide-ranging as pedagogy, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, Near Eastern studies, as well as the history of knowledge and science. Through his work and his dynamic personality, he shaped the careers of many scholars worldwide. He was a paragon of the engaged scientist, having great sensitivity for political and social concerns and a perceptiveness that also shaped his scholarship. The present volume attempts to capture the vivacity of his ever-curious mind. It comprises contributions by some of his closest companions, colleagues, and friends, most of which were presented at a workshop held in Peter’s honor at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin in December 19–20, 2013. The contributions are organized in four parts, the first three of which cover some of the areas of Peter’s interests: the origins of writing and mathematics; the history of knowledge and science; and societal concerns and the role of information technologies for the humanities. The last part offers a glimpse at his life and also presents the scope of his scholarship with a bibliography of his writings.

    The publication of Thomas S. Kuhn’s "Structure of Scientific Revolutions" in 1962 stands for a turning point in the history and philosophy of science. The repercussions of this work have rearticulated the theoretical framework of history and philosophy of science and have also generated discussions that contributed to the formation of the communities of historians as well as philosophers of science in many parts of the world. Different approaches to history of science have since emerged and most of them have the "Structure" as their reference point. In October 2012, a conference at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science brought together some of the historians of science whose work has played a decisive role in the ways history of science has evolved as a field of research in the past 50 years, both intellectually and institutionally. This volume gathers reflections by many of these historians on the history of the history of science, based on the presentations and discussions at the conference. The topics covered range from personal recollections of working with Thomas Kuhn to broad overviews of the historical development of the history of science as a discipline in the past half-century. The series Proceedings of the Max Planck Research Library for the History and Development of Knowledge presents the results of scientific meetings on current issues and supports further cooperation on these issues via an electronic platform.     Guidobaldo Marquis dal Monte has long been identified as a key figure in the history of the mathematical disciplines in the Renaissance. The contributions brought together in this volume examine all the key aspects of the Marquis dal Monte’s activities, ranging from mechanics and the science of perspective to architecture and geometry.
