    The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines have long been regarded as the de facto standard for the preparation of digital textual resources in the scholarly research community. For the beginner, they offer a daunting range of possibilities, reflecting the huge range of potential applications for text encoding, from traditional scholarly editions, to language corpora, historical lexicons, digital archives and beyond. Drawing on many examples of TEI-encoded text from a variety of research domains, this simple and straightforward book is intended to help the beginner make their own choices from the full range of TEI options. It explains the XML technology used by the TEI in language accessible to the non-technical reader and provides a guided tour of the many parts of the TEI universe, and how it may be customized to suit an individual project's needs. This work has been produced with the support of Labex Hastec.

    The age of digitalization is opening up new opportunities for editing, modeling (of media genres), and presentation that go beyond the book and the linear film, requiring new collaborations between the philologies, film studies, information science and media technology, and the archive. This volume examines these kinds of relationships against the backdrop of considerations on a transdisciplinary editing practice Während sich die literaturwissenschaftliche Editionswissenschaft nach wie vor am Modell der in den letzten 200 Jahren entwickelten ‚Historisch-kritischen Ausgabe‘ orientiert, stehen die audiovisuellen Medienwissenschaften im Hinblick auf die Edition zeitbasierter Medien in der Entwicklung solcher Instrumentarien erst am Anfang. Die Tradierung des kulturellen Erbes in Form von Editionen betrifft aber beide Disziplinen und insbesondere auch diejenigen Institutionen (Archive und Museen), die das kulturelle Erbe aufbewahren und sichern. Zugleich eröffnen sich der Editionspraxis im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung jenseits von Buch und linearem Film neue Möglichkeiten der Aufbereitung, (mediengenerischen) Modellierung und Präsentation, die aber auch neue Kooperationen zwischen Philologien, Filmwissenschaft, Informatik/Medientechnologie und Archiv erfordern. Der Band führt seine Beiträge unter den Rubriken "Theorie und Methodologie", "Archivpraxen und Kritische Filmographie", "Edition von Präskripten", "Digitale Filmeditorik" und "Sprache und Musik in der Filmedition" mit dem Ziel zusammen, einen Dialog über theoretische Grundlagen, Methoden und Praktiken kritischen Edierens in digitalen Umgebungen zu führen und Ansätze zu einer transdisziplinären Editorik zu entwickeln.
