    Ingeborg Bachmann, Marlene Streeruwitz und Elfriede Jelinek sind Autorinnen der Negativität. In ihren Texten sowie in ihren performativen Inszenierungen weiblicher Autorschaft reflektieren sie auf ebenso kritische wie (sprach-)spielerische Weise gesellschaftliche Negativität. Durch eine Poetik der Schmerzen überführen sie die ›verschwiegenen Erinnerungen‹ (Bachmann) des kollektiven Gedächtnisses in einen Erinnerungsprozess, der zwischen Selbstzerstörung und Selbstbestimmung changiert. Die Studie zu den Autorinnen der Negativität arbeitet die Vernetzungen der drei Autorinnen-Poetiken in Bezug auf das Negative und Schmerzhafte heraus. Das strukturelle Ineinandergreifen sowie die inter- und metatextuellen Verstrickungen der Texte, Figuren und Autorschaften werden als essayistischer Vertextungszusammenhang lesbar gemacht: Bachmann, Streeruwitz und Jelinek kommentieren sich kritisch und schreiben ihre Dramen, Prosastücke, Essays und Reden motivisch fort, während sie zugleich selbstreflexiv den Blick auf das eigene Schreiben richten. Bachmanns Frankfurter Vorlesungen, ihre Nachgelassenen Gedichte und der Roman Malina, Streeruwitz’ Tübinger und Frankfurter Poetikvorlesungen, die Erzähltexte Nachwelt., Morire in levitate., Kreuzungen., Die Schmerzmacherin. und Nachkommen. sowie Jelineks Nobelpreisrede Im Abseits und der Essay Textflächen werden im Hinblick auf ihre poetologischen Implikationen, ihr kulturkritisches Potenzial und das Verhältnis von Sprache, Schmerz und Erinnerung analysiert.

And how does a new generation of authors, too young to remember the Holocaust, express their memory in panels, images and speech bubbles? This study offers an original theory of comics as a medium of cultural memory based on the most important works of the past two decades, and explains what makes this genre so fascinating for memory studies Wie erinnern künftige Generationen an die Shoah, wenn die letzten Zeitzeugen gestorben sind? Die Comics der vergangenen Jahre geben Hinweise darauf: Während die Kinder noch versuchen, Anschluss an die nicht mehr selbst erlebte, aber gleichwohl als einschneidend erfahrene Vergangenheit ihrer Eltern herzustellen - und sich davon zu emanzipieren -, beschäftigt sich die Enkelgeneration primär mit der Tatsache, dass sie die Shoah hauptsächlich medial oder aus zweiter Hand erzählt bekommt. Um die Geschehnisse besser zu verstehen, versuchen die jüngeren Autorinnen und Autoren, das Bezeugen der historischen Ereignisse selbst nachzuempfinden oder versetzen die Handlung gleich gänzlich ins Jetzt - wo die Shoah vor allem als Spuren und Spätfolgen zu ihnen vordringt. So holen sie Vergangenes eindringlich in die Gegenwart und üben ihrerseits Kritik an Darstellungen, die eher Distanz als Nähe zur Shoah erzeugen. In neueren Comics wollen sie nicht mehr nur von einer vermeintlich fernen Vergangenheit erzählen, sondern deren Auswirkungen und Parallelen in der eigenen Lebenswelt verstehen. So besteht die Chance, die Shoah auch anderen zu vermitteln, die keinen persönlichen Bezug zur Geschichte mehr haben können - und damit dem Vergessen etwas entgegenzusetzen. Diese Arbeit ordnet die Comics in die gegenwärtige Entwicklung ein, liefert eine kurze Geschichte des Sujets "Shoah-Comic" und entwickelt dazu eine Theorie des erinnernden Comics. Zusätzlich werden Werke von Autorinnen und Autoren der Kinder- und Enkelgeneration untersucht und miteinander verglichen, darunter Comics von Michel Kichka, Bernice Eisenstein, Rutu Modan, Barbara Yelin und Reinhard Kleist. Eine Spurensuche danach, wie die Nachkommen in Sprechblasen und Panels ihre Rolle im Gefüge der Zeit finden und mit eigenem Wissen, eigenen Deutungen und eigenen Fragen anreichern "How will future generations commemorate the Holocaust when the last eyewitnesses have died? Comic books published in the past few years suggest that: while the children are still trying to understand--and emancipate themselves from--their parents' past, the generation of the grandchildren is keenly aware of the fact that everything they know about the Holocaust is passed on to them or is conveyed through the media. Comic book authors from the grandchildren's generation frame the events of the Holocaust either by positioning themselves as historical narrators, or by setting their plots in the present, where the Holocaust is only manifest through traces and consequences. By doing so, they bring the past to bear on the present, implicitly criticizing representations that keep the Holocaust at a distance. Recent comics, in other words, no longer narrate the Holocaust as a supposedly distant past, but rather explore its effects and parallels in the present. This allows them to perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust for generations who no longer have a personal connection to it, and in this way, to do important work against oblivion. By comparing comic books by authors from both the children's and the grandchildren's generation, such as Michel Kichka, Bernice Eisenstein, Rutu Modan, Barbara Yelin and Reinhard Kleist, this book shows that panels, images, and speech bubbles can help those too young to experience or commemorate the Holocaust come to terms with what had happened."--Publisher's website

    Die geschichtswissenschaftliche Studie beschäftigt sich mit dem Wandel von Heldenbildern unter deutschen und französischen Soldaten und Offizieren des Siebenjährigen Krieges, der Revolutions- und der Napoleonischen Kriege. Kultur der Empfindsamkeit, levée en masse und intensive Formen der Meinungslenkung seitens Regierungen und Heerführern führten zu einer Entwicklung der heroisch-militärischen Leitbilder, die sich in militärischen Selbstzeugnissen niederschlug. Einem interdisziplinären Ansatz folgend, untersucht die Monographie anhand von Narrativen und Selbstdarstellungen die Prozesse der Heroisierung von Militärs und zeigt, wie Kriegsteilnehmer über ihre Selbstheroisierung Erinnerungskultur prägten und mitgestalteten. This historiographical study deals with the transformation of heroic images of German and French soldiers and officers during the Seven Years' War and the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. A culture of sensitivity, levée en masse and intensive forms of opinion management on the part of governments and military leaders led to a change in heroic-military role models, which was reflected in personal military testimonies. Following an interdisciplinary approach, the monograph uses narratives and self-portrayals to examine the heroization processes of military personnel and shows how combatants influenced and helped shape the culture of remembrance through their self-heroization.
