    Zusammenfassung: Die vorliegende Arbeit behandelt das Thema der Bewirtschaftung von common property – einer Form gemeinschaftlichen Eigentums – am Beispiel von drei Forstgenossenschaften im Harmersbachtal im mittleren Schwarzwald. Maßgeblich wird in dieser Studie das Verhalten der Menschen, der Forstgenossen, untersucht: Wie haben sich die veränderten Rahmenbedingungen auf die Forstgenossenschaften und ihre Mitglieder ausgewirkt? Mit dem Instrumentarium der Neuen Institutionenökonomik und dem Ansatz von ELINOR OSTROM folgend, soll untersucht werden, wie die Forstgenossen als Gruppe in der Lage waren, ihren Wald über einen langen Zeitraum gemeinsam und nachhaltig zu bewirtschaften. Die Arbeit führt über Erläuterungen zum Eigentumsbegriff, geschichtlichen Zusammenhänge des Themas „Forstgenossenschaften im Harmersbachtal“, Darstellung der theoretischen Grundlagen und Präsentation der Ergebnisse hin zur Untersuchung der Forstgenossenschaften als common-property-Regime und ob ihre Wälder entsprechend den Bauprinzipien von OSTROM (1999, 115 ff.) als langlebige Ressourcenmanagementsysteme bezeichnet werden können

    This paper examines a dynamic game of exploitation of a common pool of some renewable asset by agents that sell the result of their exploitation on an oligopolistic market. A Markov Perfect Nash Equilibrium of the game is used to analyze the effects of a merger of a subset of the agents. We study the impact of the merger on the equilibrium production strategies, on the steady states, and on the profitability of the merger for its members. We show that there exists an interval of the asset's stock such that any merger is profitable if the stock at the time the merger is formed falls within that interval. That includes mergers that are known to be unprofitable in the corresponding static equilibrium framework.

    Starting from the medieval period, women in the Italian Alps experienced a progressive erosion in property rights over the commons. We collected documents about the evolution of inheritance regulations on collective land issued by hundreds of peasant communities over a period of six centuries (13th-19th). Based on this original dataset, we provide a long-term perspective of decentralized institutional change in which gender-biased inheritance systems emerged as a defensive measure to preserve the wealth of community insiders. This institutional change had implications also for the protection from economic shocks, for population growth, and for marriage strategies.
