    The scale and frequency of natural disasters is expected to increase if global efforts fail to mitigate climate change, with severe consequences for society and economic activities. As a response, recent years have seen the emergence of green adaptation measures, such as Nature-based Solutions, as an alternative to human-engineered, grey infrastructure, to effectively and sustainably adapt to a changing climate. However, the successful uptake of green adaptation measures requires a better understanding of, on the one hand, the cost-effectiveness of such measures. On the other hand, proliferation depends on the assessment of unintended consequences to socio-demographic groups, including increases in property prices and climate gentrification in urban areas. This dissertation addresses both fundamental economic questions of green adaptation measures. The results show that their cost-effectiveness predominantly depends on the time ecosystems within Nature-based Solutions need to reestablish and the value of land. Moreover, the implementation of green adaptation measures changes nearby property prices. I show that the effect depends on the implementation phase (i.e., whether the adaptation measure is being announced, under construction or completed) and the function of the measure (e.g., whether it comprises the lowering of a floodplain or the strengthening of a dike). Finally, a spatial analysis of temperature distribution within an urban area provides further evidence that the implementation of heat-related adaptation disproportionately affects marginalized socio-demographic groups of the poor and ethnic minorities. This dissertation contributes to a growing literature focusing on the economics of green adaptation, thereby providing support for policy-makers on how to design and implement strategies that address the negative impacts of climate change, while simultaneously benefiting both society and ecosystems. Es wird erwartet, dass ein Scheitern der weltweiten Bemühungen zur Eindämmung des Klimawandels zu einer Zunahme des Ausmaßes und der Häufigkeit von Naturkatastrophen führen wird, mit schwerwiegenden Folgen für Gesellschaft und Wirtschaftsaktivitäten. Um sich effektiv und nachhaltig an ein sich änderndes Klima anzupassen, hat sich in den letzten Jahren die Anzahl an umgesetzten grünen Anpassungsmaßnahmen, wie naturbasierte Lösungen, als Alternative zur vom Menschen geschaffenen, grauen Infrastruktur erhöht. Die erfolgreiche Umsetzung grüner Anpassungsmaßnahmen erfordert jedoch einerseits ein besseres Verständnis von deren Kostenwirksamkeit, andererseits hängt deren nachhaltige Verbreitung von der Analyse unbeabsichtigter Folgen für soziodemografische Gruppen ab, einschließlich steigender Immobilienpreise und Klimagentrifizierung in städtischen Gebieten. Diese Dissertation befasst sich mit diesen beiden grundlegenden ökonomischen Fragen grüner Anpassungsmaßnahmen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass deren Kostenwirksamkeit vor allem von der Zeit abhängt, die integrierte Ökosysteme zur Wiederherstellung benötigen, sowie vom Preis von Grundstücken, auf denen solche Maßnahmen gebaut werden sollen. Darüber hinaus verändern sich durch die Umsetzung von Anpassungsmaßnahmen die Immobilienpreise in der näheren Umgebung. Meine Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Wirkung von der Umsetzungsphase (d. h. ob die Anpassungsmaßnahmen angekündigt, im Bau oder abgeschlossen sind) und der Funktion der Maßnahme (z. B. ob es sich um die Absenkung einer Überschwemmungsfläche oder die Verstärkung eines Deichs handelt) abhängt. Schließlich liefert eine räumliche Analyse der Temperaturverteilung innerhalb eines Stadtgebiets weitere Belege dafür, dass die Umsetzung hitzebedingter Anpassungsmaßnahmen marginalisierte soziodemografische Gruppen , wie den Armen und ethnischen Minderheiten, überproportional betrifft. Diese Dissertation trägt zu einer wachsenden Literatur bei, die sich auf die Ökonomie der grünen Anpassung konzentriert, und bietet damit politischen Entscheidungsträgern Unterstützung bei der Entwicklung und Umsetzung von Strategien, die ausreichend Schutz gegen die negativen Auswirkungen des Klimawandels bieten und gleichzeitig sowohl der Gesellschaft als auch den Ökosystemen nachhaltig zugutekommen.
