    From Aristotle to Heidegger, philosophers distinguished two orders of time, before, after and past, present, future, presenting them in a wide range of interpretations. It was only around the turn of the 1970s that two theories of time which deliberately went beyond that tradition, enhancing our notional apparatus, were produced independently of one another. The nature philosopher Julius T. Fraser, founder of the interdisciplinary International Society for the Study of Time, distinguished temporal levels in the evolution of the Cosmos and the structure of the human mind: atemporality,prototemporality,eotemporality,biotemporality andnootemporality. The author of the book distinguishes two ‘dimensions’ in time: the dimension of the sequence of time (syntagmatic) and the dimension of the sizes of duration or frequency (systemic). On the systemic scale, the author distinguishes, in human ways of existing and acting, a visual zone, zone of the psychological present, zone of works and performances, zone of the natural and cultural environment, zone of individual and social life and zone of history, myth and tradition. In this book, the author provides a synthesis of these theories.

Natascha Frankenberg greift diese Diskussion aus einer dezidiert filmwissenschaftlichen Perspektive auf und rekonstruiert Beiträge des Queer Cinema zu einer Queeren Zeitlichkeit. Sie analysiert u.a. Filme von Gréta Ólafsdóttir, Susan Muska, Cheryl Dunye, Barbara Hammer und Joey Carducci in ihrem Umgang mit Materialität, Motiven, Narration und Filmform.

    Modernity’s Mist explores an understudied aspect of Romanticism: its future-oriented poetics. Whereas Romanticism is well known for its relation to the past, Emily Rohrbach situates Romantic epistemological uncertainties in relation to historiographical debates that opened up a radically unpredictable and fast- approaching future. As the rise of periodization made the project of defining the "spirit of the age" increasingly urgent, the changing sense of futurity rendered the historical dimensions of the present deeply elusive. While historicist critics often are interested in what Romantic writers and their readers would have known, Rohrbach draws attention to moments when these writers felt they could not know the historical dimensions of their own age. Illuminating the poetic strategies Keats, Austen, Byron, and Hazlitt used to convey that sense of mystery, Rohrbach describes a poetic grammar of future anteriority—of uncertainty concerning what will have been. Romantic writers, she shows, do not simply reflect the history of their time; their works make imaginable a new way of thinking the historical present when faced with the temporalities of modernity

Dazu entwickelt sie eine vollzugsmäßige Theorie und Methode als konsequente Umsetzung des »performative turn«, womit sie der bisherigen kognitionswissenschaftlichen Erforschung des Lesens einen produktiven Gegenspieler liefert. Pate für den Ansatz stehen Martin Heidegger und Hans-Georg Gadamer, die gebrauchsbasierte Konstruktionsgrammatik sowie die Schriftbildforschung. Insgesamt werden damit wertvolle Impulse für Ästhetik, Leseforschung sowie literaturwissenschaftliche und literaturdidaktische Grundlagenforschung bereitgestellt

    Worin liegen die ästhetischen Eigenlogiken der Gattung des Genrebildes, also Darstellungen von Alltagsszenen mit anonymen und meist typisierten Figuren? Seit dem 16. Jahrhundert wurde diese Gattung in der Malerei populär. Sie erlangte ihr künstlerisches Profil in einem Prozess des Dialogs mit und der Abgrenzung von der Reproduktionsgraphik, der Historienmalerei sowie den anderen im Entstehen begriffenen Bildgattungen. Die Beiträger*innen bereichern die kunsthistorische Forschung zum europäischen Genrebild von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zur Moderne um ikonographische, rezeptionsästhetische und bildwissenschaftliche Aspekte. Dabei stellen sie insbesondere Bildphänomene und künstlerische Strategien der Temporalität, der Ambiguität und der Latenz als spezifische Dimensionen dieser Gattung ins Zentrum ihrer Analysen und liefern so eine Neuperspektivierung der Genremalerei.

    Serialized storytelling provides intriguing opportunities for critical representations of age and aging. In contrast to the finite character of films, television narratives can unfold across hundreds of episodes and multiple seasons. Contemporary viewing practices and new media technologies have resulted in complex television narratives, in which experimental temporalities and revisions of narrative linearity and chronological time have become key features.     Modernity’s Mist explores an understudied aspect of Romanticism: its future-oriented poetics. Whereas Romanticism is well known for its relation to the past, Emily Rohrbach situates Romantic epistemological uncertainties in relation to historiographical debates that opened up a radically unpredictable and fast- approaching future. As the rise of periodization made the project of defining the "spirit of the age" increasingly urgent, the changing sense of futurity rendered the historical dimensions of the present deeply elusive. While historicist critics often are interested in what Romantic writers and their readers would have known, Rohrbach draws attention to moments when these writers felt they could not know the historical dimensions of their own age. Illuminating the poetic strategies Keats, Austen, Byron, and Hazlitt used to convey that sense of mystery, Rohrbach describes a poetic grammar of future anteriority—of uncertainty concerning what will have been. Romantic writers, she shows, do not simply reflect the history of their time; their works make imaginable a new way of thinking the historical present when faced with the temporalities of modernity

Dazu entwickelt sie eine vollzugsmäßige Theorie und Methode als konsequente Umsetzung des »performative turn«, womit sie der bisherigen kognitionswissenschaftlichen Erforschung des Lesens einen produktiven Gegenspieler liefert. Pate für den Ansatz stehen Martin Heidegger und Hans-Georg Gadamer, die gebrauchsbasierte Konstruktionsgrammatik sowie die Schriftbildforschung.
