    Die Vorstellung, dass Gleiches sich gerne zu Gleichem geselle, ist so alt wie das menschliche Nachdenken über Beziehungen selbst und prägt auch die höfische Literatur des Mittelalters, in der insbesondere die Gleichheit des sozialen Status sowie äußerer und innerer Idealität beziehungskonstituierend wirkt. Im 13. Jahrhundert entstehen dann allerdings einige Romane, die dieses Prinzip problematisieren und hinterfragen: Weshalb ist Ähnlichkeit eine Bedingung für ideale Beziehungen? Welche Merkmalsgleichheiten sind relevant, welche nicht? Und was geschieht mit denen, die bestimmten Ähnlichkeitsnormen nicht entsprechen? Die vorliegende Studie untersucht erstmals systematisch die narrativen Inszenierungen von Ähnlichkeit in vier späthöfischen Romanen, in denen dieses elementare Beziehungsprinzip der Gleichheit ins Zentrum des Erzählens rückt und sowohl die Handlungsstruktur als auch die Figurenkonstellation maßgeblich bestimmt. Auf einen kulturhistorischen Überblick über die Grundlagen mittelalterlichen Ähnlichkeitswissens folgen vergleichende Detailanalysen von Konrad Flecks ‚Flore und Blanscheflur‘, Rudolfs von Ems ‚Barlaam und Josaphat‘, Konrads von Würzburg ‚Engelhard‘ und Ulrichs von Etzenbach ‚Wilhalm von Wenden‘ The notion that like prefers the company of like is characteristic of the love and friendship relationships in medieval literature. For the first time, this study takes a cultural historical approach to examine the staging of similarity in four late courtly romances, where this elemental principle of relationship is at the center of the narrative and determines the structure of action as well as the constellation of figures

    Die Vorstellung, dass Gleiches sich gerne zu Gleichem geselle, ist so alt wie das menschliche Nachdenken über Beziehungen selbst und prägt auch die höfische Literatur des Mittelalters, in der insbesondere die Gleichheit des sozialen Status sowie äußerer und innerer Idealität beziehungskonstituierend wirkt. Im 13. Jahrhundert entstehen dann allerdings einige Romane, die dieses Prinzip problematisieren und hinterfragen: Weshalb ist Ähnlichkeit eine Bedingung für ideale Beziehungen? Welche Merkmalsgleichheiten sind relevant, welche nicht? Und was geschieht mit denen, die bestimmten Ähnlichkeitsnormen nicht entsprechen? Die vorliegende Studie untersucht erstmals systematisch die narrativen Inszenierungen von Ähnlichkeit in vier späthöfischen Romanen, in denen dieses elementare Beziehungsprinzip der Gleichheit ins Zentrum des Erzählens rückt und sowohl die Handlungsstruktur als auch die Figurenkonstellation maßgeblich bestimmt. Auf einen kulturhistorischen Überblick über die Grundlagen mittelalterlichen Ähnlichkeitswissens folgen vergleichende Detailanalysen von Konrad Flecks ‚Flore und Blanscheflur‘, Rudolfs von Ems ‚Barlaam und Josaphat‘, Konrads von Würzburg ‚Engelhard‘ und Ulrichs von Etzenbach ‚Wilhalm von Wenden‘ The notion that like prefers the company of like is characteristic of the love and friendship relationships in medieval literature. For the first time, this study takes a cultural historical approach to examine the staging of similarity in four late courtly romances, where this elemental principle of relationship is at the center of the narrative and determines the structure of action as well as the constellation of figures
