    The debate over the concept of world literature, which has been taking place with renewed intensity over the last twenty years, is tightly bound up with the issues of global interconnectedness in a polycentric world. Most recently, critiques of globalization-related conceptualizations, in particular, have made themselves heard: to what extent is the concept of world literature too closely connected with the political and economic dynamics of globalization? Such questions cannot be answered simply through theoretical debate. The material side of the production of world literature must therefore be more strongly integrated into the conversation than it has been. Using the example of Latin American literatures, this volume demonstrates the concrete construction processes of world literature. To that purpose, archival materials have been analyzed here: notes, travel reports, and correspondence between publishers and authors. The Latin American examples provide particularly rich information about the processes of institutionalization in the Western world, as well as new perspectives for a contemporary mapping of world literature beyond the established dynamics of canonization

    Daniel Kehlmann ist als Autor ebenso populär wie umstritten. Seine Romane sind Besteller und zugleich Gegenstand kontroverser Debatten. Im literarischen Leben ist Kehlmann eine Stimme, die mit ebenso differenzierten wie provokativen Interventionen auf sich aufmerksam macht. In diesem Band wird der Versuch unternommen, Autor und Werk im literarischen Feld der Gegenwart zu verorten. Dabei wird einerseits Kehlmanns Poetik rekonstruiert, mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der für seine Texte charakteristischen intertextuellen und intermedialen Bezüge. Andererseits wird seine Werkpolitik in den Blick genommen. Autor und Werk, aber auch ihre Rezeption sollen zudem mit Blick auf spezifische Tendenzen der Gegenwartsliteratur befragt werden - etwa ein vermeintliches oder tatsächliches Spannungsverhältnis zwischen >unterhaltender< und >ernster< Literatur - und gegebenenfalls auch den Anlass bieten, bestehende Analyse- und Beschreibungskategorien zur Diskussion zu stellen.

    Mit der Digitalisierung erfährt der Literaturbetrieb der Gegenwart einen massiven Wandel. Autor*innen schaffen mithilfe der sozialen Medien zusätzliche Kommunikations- und Inszenierungsräume – mit der Konsequenz, dass sich die Literaturwissenschaft in ihrer klassischen Terminologie herausgefordert sieht. Der Sammelband setzt sich zum Ziel, diese Auswirkungen der sozialen Medien auf die Gegenwartsliteratur zu erforschen. Er geht von der Beobachtung aus, dass das Experimentieren mit den ästhetischen Möglichkeiten sozialer Medien vor allem im Bereich der Popliteratur stattfindet, die gegenwärtig eine dritte Konjunkturwelle erlebt. Ob die Literarisierung von SMS- und E-Mail-Messages oder Chatprotokollen einschließlich ihrer Codes der Emojis, GIFs, Memes im zeitgenössischen Pop-Roman, ob Twitter-Literatur, Poetry Bots oder Instagram-Feeds auf den Social-Media-Kanälen: als Pop 3.0 ist die digitale ‚Kultur der Masse‘ in der Gegenwartsliteratur angekommen.
