    This book explores the changing perception of time and space in avant-garde, modernist, and contemporary poetry. The author characterizes the works of modern Russian, French, and Anglo-American poets based on their attitudes towards reality, time, space, and history revealed in their poetics. The author compares the work of major Russian innovative poets Osip Mandelstam, Velimir Khlebnikov, Vladimir Mayakovsky, and Joseph Brodsky with that of W. B. Yeats, T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, and, in spite of the postmodernist "estrangement" of reality, the author proves that similar traces can be found in the work of contemporary American poets John Ashbery and Charles Bernstein. Both affinities and drastic differences are revealed in the poets' attitudes towards time-space, reality, and history

    In der deutschen Literatur und Philosophie vom Ende der zwanziger bis in die fünfziger Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts begegnen immer wieder Bilder und Denkfiguren einer geschichtslosen Existenz. In Abkehr vom modernen Rationalismus, Humanismus und Vitalismus versucht man, "den Menschen" als geistig, geschichtlich und natürlich unbestimmtes Wesen neu zu entwerfen. Dabei wird die in der Weimarer Republik breit diskutierte Kultur- und Wissenskrise nun als Krise des neuzeitlichen Vernunft- und Geschichtsglaubens, ja als Ende des homininen Zeitalters gedeutet. Die vorliegende Studie rekonstruiert erstmals fallstudienartig die Entstehung und Wandlung dieses existenzial-anthropologischen Diskurses. Sie eröffnet dabei zum einen einen neuen Blick auf die literatur- und denkgeschichtlichen Verbindungen zwischen dem Ende der Weimarer Republik und den Anfangsjahren der Bundesrepublik. Zum anderen entwickelt sie einen neuen, wissensgeschichtlichen Interpretationszugang zu Texten bekannter und wenig bekannter Autoren dieser Zeit, darunter Gottfried Benn, Otto Friedrich Bollnow, Arnold Gehlen, Ernst Jünger, Horst Lange, Gerhard Nebel und Egon Vietta

    Burial Plots in British Detective Fiction offers an overview of the ways in which the past is brought back to the surface and influences the present in British detective fiction written between 1920 and 2020. Exploring a range of authors including Agatha Christie, Patricia Wentworth, Val McDermid, Sarah Caudwell, Georgette Heyer, Dorothy Dunnett, Jonathan Stroud and Ben Aaronovitch, Lisa Hopkins argues that both the literal and literary disinterment of the past use elements of the national past to interrogate the present. As such, in the texts discussed, uncovering the truth about an individual crime is also typically an uncovering of a more general connection between the present and the past. Whether detective novels explore murders on archaeological digs, hauntings, cold crimes or killings at Christmas, Hopkins explores the underlying message that you cannot understand the present unless you understand the past.

Timmermans. "The opening chapter of Poetry: Interpretations and Influence on the World tries to explain the correlation between history and poetry, as well as and the elements that currently aid in the recognizance of the presence of the poetic in the work of historians. Following this, the authors discuss six poems from the poetry collection Charred Tree (1945) and three poems from the collection Shadowland (1966), both published by Estonian writer Bernard Kangro (1910-1994) while in exile. These autobiographical poems are interpreted as a testimony, not only to the author's personal experiences in World War II, but also to those of other Estonian refugees. This compilation also compares the nonsensical narrative of Lewis Carroll to the poetry of Hebrew poet Dalia Hertz, as both writers seek to establish a unique and differentiated poetic logic. Dalia Hertz's first book, Margot (published in 1961) follows a logic that diverges from common sense. As such, the authors argue that a key aspect of her poetry is the logic of mirroring antinomy; one of the central themes of Through the Looking Glass. The authors go on to assess that although significant state affairs weighed heavily on Sultan Süleyman's mind as he had to deal with conflicts with other states, lead armies in battles and attend to power struggles in the court, he still found time to compose thousands of poems. The concluding chapter postulates that through the use of poetry and figurative language in children's biographical picture books, readers can enter the world of women scientists who forged the path of scientific discovery and innovation"--
