    This book represents a unique study which reviews employment conditions in Asia and the Pacific in the context of globalization and increasing pressure towards flexibilization. It places a strong focus on the diverging experiences of individual workers in their employment conditions such as employment status, wages/incomes, working time, work organizations and health and safety. Along with thematic studies concerning the roles of workers voice and labour regulation in determining employment conditions, this book includes nine country studies which have been undertaken based on a common research framework for a more rigorous comparison in the region.     Aus dem einleitenden Teil: "Plattformarbeit - die Vermittlung von bezahlten Dienstleistungsaufgaben durch eine Online-Plattform - ist seit etwa einer Dekade auf den europäischen Arbeitsmärkten zu finden. Obwohl diese Beschäftigungsform nach wie vor nicht sehr weit verbreitet ist - die derzeit umfangreichste Studie (COLLEEM II des Joint Research Centres der Europäischen Kommission) zeigt auf, dass etwa 1,4 Prozent der Bevölkerung in den 16 untersuchten Mitgliedstaaten Plattformarbeit als Haupteinkommensquelle betrachten, während weitere zehn Prozent ihr mit unterschiedlicher Intensität und Häufigkeit nachgehen -, wird allgemein von einem dynamischen Wachstum ausgegangen. Dies bezieht sich nicht nur auf die Anzahl an Plattformen, KundInnen und Beschäftigten, sondern auch auf eine zunehmende Heterogenität innerhalb der Plattformarbeit. Unterschiedliche Kombinationen von Geschäftsmodellen, Arbeitsmechanismen der Plattformen und Aufgaben resultieren in unterschiedlichen Auswirkungen auf die Beschäftigungs- und Arbeitsbedingungen der Plattformbeschäftigten.     Der fortschreitende Wandel der Arbeitswelt zeichnet sich durch steigende Flexibilitätsanforderungen und ein höheres Maß an eigenverantwortlichem Handeln aus. Verantwortung, Flexibilität und neue Freiräume im Job werden auch von vielen Erwerbstätigen geschätzt - aber nicht von allen. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt, dass die Arbeitszufriedenheit nicht allein mit den Eigenschaften des Arbeitsplatzes zusammenhängt, sondern auch damit, wie sehr diese Eigenschaften den Präferenzen des jeweiligen Arbeitnehmers entsprechen. Beschäftigte mit wenig Flexibilität und Eigenverantwortung können somit grundsätzlich genauso zufrieden mit ihrer Arbeit sein wie Arbeitnehmer mit viel Flexibilität und Eigenverantwortung.
