    Este volumen analiza el lugar y el perfil del teólogo en el Siglo de Oro español. Los capítulos que lo integran se centran no solo en los miembros del clero católico, sino también en los seguidores de corrientes religiosas como el recogimiento, el dejamiento, el alumbradismo y la devotio moderna. La figura del teólogo se aborda desde las perspectivas de los estudios literarios y culturales, la teología y la filosofía. Son objeto de atención la concepción que el teólogo tenía de sí mismo, su actitud, conocimiento, formación, influencias y actividades, que atestiguan los tratados, los textos ficcionales y la literatura religiosa del Siglo de Oro. Se plantean cuestiones como las consecuencias de la Reforma y la Contrarreforma en la imagen de los teólogos, sus relaciones familiares y económicas con otros miembros de la sociedad, y el importante papel que alcanzaron en este período como autores literarios.

Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Kunst und Theorie sowie Kunst und Religion. Nika Spalinger ist Künstlerin und Professorin für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum an der Hochschule Luzern - Design & Kunst. Isabel Zürcher (lic. phil.) ist Kunsthistorikerin und Kunstpublizistin in Basel. Bilden sich durch die sogenannte Wiederkehr des Religiösen in der bildenden Kunst heilige oder auch unheilige Allianzen? Dieses Buch thematisiert die Zusammenhänge von zeitgenössischer Kunst und Religion im Zeitalter des Postsäkularen, indem es das Feld zwischen privater Religiosität und kritischer Theologie auslotet.     Victorian Cosmopolitanism and English Catholicity in the Mid-Century Novel argues that the Creedal doctrines of “the communion of saints” and the “holy Catholic Church” provided Victorian novelists—both Roman Catholic and Protestant—with a means of exploring religious forms of cosmopolitanism. Building on research exploring the divisions between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism in Victorian literature and culture, Teresa Huffman Traver considers the extent to which anti-Catholicism, domesticity, and national identity were linked. Huffman Traver connects this research with cosmopolitan theory, and analyzes how the conception of Catholicity could be used to reach beyond national identity towards a transnational community. Investigating the idea of a “rooted” cosmopolitanism, grounded in the local and limited in scope, this Pivot book offers a new angle on how religion, domesticity, and national identity were constructed in nineteenth-century British culture. .

    Analysis of the novellas of the German Romantic writer and composer, focusing on the issues of art and the artist. The German Romantic writer and composer E. T. A. Hoffmann (1776-1822) - perhaps best known to the English-speaking world through his 'Nutcracker' and through Jacques Offenbach's opera 'Tales of Hoffmann' - struggled to convince his predominantly bourgeois public of the merits of art and literature. Not surprisingly, many of his most important novellas are bound up with the dilemmas of art and the challenges faced by the Romantic artist, and it is these 'Künstlernovellen' that are the focus of this study. Birgit Röderargues that Hoffmann's artists are not simply individuals who create works of art, but rather figures through whom the author explores the predicament of those who reject the conventional world of bourgeois reality and seek to assert the claims of the imagination in a world dominated by prosaic rationalism. Contrary to previous scholars however, Röder demonstrates that Hoffmann's novellas clearly warn against a view of art as an autonomous aesthetic realm cut off from the world of reality. This is particularly apparent in Röder's analysis of gender relations in Hoffmann's oeuvre - especially the relationship between (male) artist and (female) muse - which underlines the extent to which art, literature, and the imagination are inseparably bound up with the prevailing social reality. The novellas that are given extensive consideration are 'Das Fräulein von Scuderi, Der Sandmann, Die Jesuiterkirche in G., Die Fermate, Der Artushof, Don Juan, Das Sanctus,' and 'Rat Krespel'.     Often considered as the first phenomenon of mass media in history, the use of books and prints by Protestants has been widely studied and has generated a rich and plentiful bibliography. In contrast, the production and use of these supports by the partisans of the Counter-Reformation have not received the attention they deserve, especially in the context of the Low Countries. The twelve contributors provide new perspectives on the efficacy of the handpress book industry to support the Catholic strategy of the Spanish Low Countries and underlines the mutually beneficial relationship between proponents of the Counter-Reformation and the typographic world. It is therefore also an important contribution to our understanding of sociocultural and socioeconomic background of the Catholic Netherlands.

    Das Buch lotet die Beziehungen zwischen Literatur, Religion, Politik und (Kriegs)gewalt um 1800 aus. Im Zentrum steht Friedrich Schillers Tragödie "Die Jungfrau von Orleans". Dieses Drama dient als Brennspiegel, umgekehrt auch als Prisma für eine Untersuchung der Revolutionsepoche, die die Interferenzen von Französischer Revolution, Koalitionskriegen, Religion und Literatur in neuem Licht erscheinen lässt. Diskutiert werden das komplexe Verhältnis des Autors Schiller zur Religion, die politische Theologie, die populare Religiosität und die Religionskritik im Aufklärungszeitalter sowie die Dialektik von (theatralisierter) Dechristianisierung und Resakralisierung im ersten Revolutionsjahrzehnt. Besondere Schwerpunkte bilden eine politisierte Marienfrömmigkeit und das literarische Nachleben von Märtyrerdrama und Heiligenlegende um 1800.

Das Werk Arnold Stadlers, das sich aus der lebendigen Sprache, aus dem Konkreten und Ambivalenten der heimatlichen Lebenswelt speist, hat Teil an dem Diskurs über Zugehörigkeit, über Angekommen- und Angenommen-Sein in einer globalisierten Welt. ‚Heimat‘ und ‚Religiosität‘ bilden die strukturbildenden Komplexe seines hochreflektierten Werks, die hier in ihrer Bezogenheit aufeinander gedeutet werden. Die Engführung beider Phänomene, nach der sich die literarischen Figuren Stadlers sehnen, fungiert als grundlegendes poetisches Prinzip der Texte. Auch die Religion kann zu einer erfahrbaren sozialen Heimat werden, die Heimat kann ebenso religiöse Züge annehmen.
