Explores blogs as a new form of literature emerging in Egypt during the rise of political protests Six years before the Egyptian revolution of January 2011, many young Egyptians had resorted to blogging as a means of self-expression and literary creativity. This resulted in the emergence of a new literary genre: the autofictional blog. "Combining theoretical and empirical discussions with shorter thick description case studies, this book offers an anthropological exploration of the emergence in Malaysia of lifestyle bloggers--precursors to current social media microcelebrities and influencers. It tracks the transformation of personal blogs, which attracted readers with spontaneous and authentic accounts of everyday life, into lifestyle blogs that generate income through advertising and foreground consumerist lifestyles. It argues that lifestyle blogs are dialogically constituted between the blogger, the readers, and the blog itself, and challenges the assumption of a unitary self by proposing that lifestyle blogs can best be understood in terms of the dividual self"--

"Set in Havana during the Black Spring of 2003, a charming but poison-laced culinary mystery that reveals the darker side of the modern Revolution, complete with authentic Cuban recipes. Havana, Cuba, 2003: Matt, a San Diego journalist, arrives in Havana to marry his girlfriend, Yarmila, a 24-year-old Cuban woman whom he first connected with because of her food blog. But Yarmi isn't there to meet him at the airport. When he hitches a ride to her apartment, he finds her lying dead in the bathtub. Love-lorn Matt is immediately embroiled in a Cuban adventure he hadn't bargained for: the police and secret service have him down as their main suspect, and in an effort to clear his name, Matt must embark on his own investigation into what happened to Yarmila. The more Matt learns about his erstwhile fiancee, though, the more he realizes he had no idea who she was at all--but did anyone?"--

Brief chronology of personal and lifestyle blogging in Malaysia -- Introduction : Anthroblogia : participant observation and blogging in Malaysia -- The blogs as assemblage : agency and affordances -- January 2006 : blogwars, hit sluts, and authenticity in the personal blogosphere -- The blogger and her blog : (dis)assembling the dividual self -- May 2007 : the assembling of genres -- Assembling blogs and bloggers -- April 2007 : voicy consumers and negotiating networked publics -- Assembling a blog market -- January 2009 : negotiating the authentic advertorial -- Assembling lifestyles -- October 2009 : regional blogmeet -- Conclusions : the dividual self and emergence of the lifestyle blog.

Which stories are told by people who use digital media as an instrument, stage and subject of their storytelling? These studies, in which online protagonists and bloggers were incorporated, show that it is stories that tell of interconnectedness, transformation, border management and change. As narrative signatures of their age, they point out questions, needs, fears and desires with which children, young people and young adults are confronted in various regions of the world, in the face of the global social and cultural transformation.
