    Biographical note: Christopher F. Laferl (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt Iberoromanische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft an der Universität Salzburg. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind spanische und lateinamerikanische Literatur der Frühen Neuzeit, Literatur und Popularkultur Brasiliens und der Karibik im 20. Jahrhundert sowie Literatur und Ethnizität. Anja Tippner (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt slavistische Literaturwissenschaft an der Universität Hamburg. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen den Bereich der russischen, tschechischen und polnischen Literatur und hier besonders Strategien auto/biographischen Schreibens, Extremsituationen als ästhetische und kulturelle Herausforderung sowie jüdische Narrative in Osteuropa. Künstlerbiographie und Werk stehen in einem Spannungsverhältnis - eine Problematik, der sich dieser Band anhand der Biographien bekannter Künstler des 20. Jahrhunderts (u.a. Jean Cocteau, Marilyn Monroe, Thomas Bernhard und Václav Havel) nähert. Dabei wird nicht nur das öffentlich (und damit selbst zum Kunstwerk) gemachte Leben berücksichtigt, sondern auch die Rezeption in biographischen Texten, Filmen und anderen Medien. Die Zusammenschau aus den Bereichen der Literatur, der Musik und den bildenden sowie performativen Künsten, wie sie dieser Band zum ersten Mal bietet, ermöglicht eine Abstraktion von den jeweiligen Produktionsbedingungen und eröffnet den Blick auf übergreifende Künstlerkonzepte.     In den ersten Dekaden des 20. Jahrhunderts sind Macht- und Körperinszenierungen zu beobachten, die - vor allem in Italien und von Italien ausgehend - für die Kultur- und Mediengeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts relevant sind. Im Übergang von der ästhetizistischen Moderne zum italienischen Futurismus werden Konzepte reflektiert und Inszenierungen experimentell durchgespielt, die wichtige Impulse für nachfolgende anthropologische Fragestellungen und ästhetische Strömungen im europäischen (und nicht zuletzt im globalen) Kontext geben. Vor allem das Faszinationsmuster Bewegung (Geschwindigkeit, Athletismus, Masse) initiierte zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts unter dem Eindruck der technischen Medien eine Konkurrenz und Konvergenz von Künsten und Wissenschaften und führte zur Neucodierung wesentlicher Parameter unserer Kultur (Bewusstsein, Imaginäres, Identität, Gedächtnis). Das im Umfeld der frühen Avantgarden intellektuell und ästhetisch dichte Wechselverhältnis von Literatur, Philosophie, Künsten, Medien und Wissenschaften wird in diesem Band aus der Perspektive neuerer kulturwissenschaftlicher Fragestellungen (Performativität, Inszenierung, Intermedialität, Materialität) beleuchtet und im Horizont neuer Suchbegriffe (Form, Formauflösung, Intensität) erforscht.

Dieser Band fasst mit kritischem Blick die theoretischen Möglichkeiten und Begrenzungen ins Auge, die dem Authentizitäts-Konzept innewohnen. Die Beiträge aus unterschiedlichen geisteswissenschaftlichen Disziplinen bestimmen »Authentizität« als ästhetische wie lebenswirkliche Kategorie, die ihre Relevanz gerade aus einer paradoxen Wechselbeziehung zwischen Essenz und Konstruktion, zwischen Wahrhaftigkeit und Performanz bezieht. Somit liefert die theoretische Betrachtung der Authentizität ein sinnfälliges Beschreibungsmuster für die Epistemologie der Postmoderne - und stellt diese zugleich in Frage.

    Biographical note: Ruth Reiche promoviert über Strategien des Narrativen in Film- und Videoinstallationen. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf der Kunstgeschichte des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts und bewegen sich an den Schnittstellen zwischen Film- und Kunstwissenschaft. Iris Romanos verfasst ihre Dissertation über Entwicklung und Bedeutung des Glasdesigns der Kristallglasmanufaktur Theresienthal. Ihr wissenschaftlicher Fokus liegt auf Malerei, Druckgrafik und Kunstgewerbe des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts, insbesondere im Symbolismus, Jugendstil und Art déco. Berenika Szymanski hat 2011 ihre Promotion über die Theatralität polnischer Oppositionsbewegungen im Polen der 1980er Jahre abgeschlossen und arbeitet inzwischen als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Bereich Theaterwissenschaft an den Universitäten München und Bayreuth. Saskia Jogler promoviert über die Narrenporträts des spanischen Hofmalers Diego Velázquez. Zu ihren Forschungsschwerpunkten gehören die spanische Malerei des Siglo de Oro, barocke Ausstattungsprogramme und künstlerische Selbstdarstellung in der Frühen Neuzeit.

His research interests include television series, comics and graphic novels, and contemporary fiction. Irmtraud Huber (M.A.) teaches English literature at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Her research interests include contemporary literature, non-realist literature, and literary theory. Main description: As a concept that increasingly gains importance in contemporary cultural discourse, authenticity emerges as a site of tearing tensions between the fictional and the real, original and fake, margin and centre, the same and the other. The essays collected in this volume explore this paradoxical nature of authenticity in the context of various media. They give ample proof of the fact that authenticity, which depends on giving the impression of being inherent or natural, found not created, frequently turns out to be the result of a careful aesthetic construction that depends on the use of identifiable techniques with the aim of achieving certain effects for certain reasons.
