    In diesem Band werden die ästhetischen und performativen Dimensionen des alevitischen Kulturerbes in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart in einem interdisziplinären Rahmen untersucht. Die Beiträge analysieren traditionelle wie gegenwärtige Entwicklungen im alevitischen Kulturleben, lokale wie transnationale Praktiken und berücksichtigen dabei Textquellen, moderne Adaptionen wie auch Materialität. Die Herangehensweisen der in unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen tätigen AutorInnen – darunter Robert Langer, Nicolas Elias, Sinibaldo De Rosa, Jérôme Cler, Judith Haug und Janina Karolewski – belegen die Komplexität der sozio-historischen und sozio-kulturellen Dynamiken. Der vorliegende Band soll Zugang gewähren zu einer komplexen Thematik, die zweifellos weitere Forschungen und Analysen verdient This volume examines the aesthetic and performative dimensions of Alevi cultural heritage from past to present, in an interdisciplinary framework and using a wide range of approaches. The chapters analyse traditional, contemporary and transnational developments of Alevi cultural expression including modern adaptations, local and regional practices, Alevism in a wider context, textual sources and materiality. The perspectives of the various authors, including Robert Langer, Nicolas Elias, Sinibaldo De Rosa, Jérôme Cler, Judith Haug, Janina Karolewski and others, each coming from different disciplines, demonstrate the complexity of socio-historical and socio-cultural dynamics. To conclude, the present volume is intended as a first approach to a complex issue, which definitely deserves further research and analysis

    Automated slaves abound in Ibn al-Razzaz al-Jazari’s famous Arabic compendium of the mechanical arts (ca. 1200), suggesting a conflation of slave and machine, while reflecting the range and significance of courtly slavery in the Artuqid realm. A 1206 illustrated copy, however, complicates both the idea of forced labor’s mechanical reproducibility and the fantasy of the machine as perfect servitude, especially in a context that witnessed slaves’ relative access to social mobility. At once figurative and diagrammatic, the pictures steered away from the mechanical by adding historical, social specificity; indeed, they echoed a range of courtly images that situated, rather than stereotyped, slave labor. Similarly, owing to technological limitations, the machines would have likely highlighted, rather than minimized, courtly slaves’ technical and social participation

Die Herangehensweisen der in unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen tätigen AutorInnen – darunter Robert Langer, Nicolas Elias, Sinibaldo De Rosa, Jérôme Cler, Judith Haug und Janina Karolewski – belegen die Komplexität der sozio-historischen und sozio-kulturellen Dynamiken. Der vorliegende Band soll Zugang gewähren zu einer komplexen Thematik, die zweifellos weitere Forschungen und Analysen verdient This volume examines the aesthetic and performative dimensions of Alevi cultural heritage from past to present, in an interdisciplinary framework and using a wide range of approaches. The chapters analyse traditional, contemporary and transnational developments of Alevi cultural expression including modern adaptations, local and regional practices, Alevism in a wider context, textual sources and materiality. The perspectives of the various authors, including Robert Langer, Nicolas Elias, Sinibaldo De Rosa, Jérôme Cler, Judith Haug, Janina Karolewski and others, each coming from different disciplines, demonstrate the complexity of socio-historical and socio-cultural dynamics. To conclude, the present volume is intended as a first approach to a complex issue, which definitely deserves further research and analysis

    In diesem Band werden die ästhetischen und performativen Dimensionen des alevitischen Kulturerbes in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart in einem interdisziplinären Rahmen untersucht. Die Beiträge analysieren traditionelle wie gegenwärtige Entwicklungen im alevitischen Kulturleben, lokale wie transnationale Praktiken und berücksichtigen dabei Textquellen, moderne Adaptionen wie auch Materialität. Die Herangehensweisen der in unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen tätigen AutorInnen – darunter Robert Langer, Nicolas Elias, Sinibaldo De Rosa, Jérôme Cler, Judith Haug und Janina Karolewski – belegen die Komplexität der sozio-historischen und sozio-kulturellen Dynamiken. Der vorliegende Band soll Zugang gewähren zu einer komplexen Thematik, die zweifellos weitere Forschungen und Analysen verdient. This volume examines the aesthetic and performative dimensions of Alevi cultural heritage from past to present, in an interdisciplinary framework and using a wide range of approaches. The chapters analyse traditional, contemporary and transnational developments of Alevi cultural expression including modern adaptations, local and regional practices, Alevism in a wider context, textual sources and materiality. The perspectives of the various authors, including Robert Langer, Nicolas Elias, Sinibaldo De Rosa, Jérôme Cler, Judith Haug, Janina Karolewski and others, each coming from different disciplines, demonstrate the complexity of socio-historical and socio-cultural dynamics. To conclude, the present volume is intended as a first approach to a complex issue, which definitely deserves further research and analysis.
