    Bewusst verstanden – besser übersetzt! Das bewährte Lehr und Arbeitsbuch mit Aufgaben widmet sich einem Kernthema des Übersetzens: es geht um das Verstehen der Wörter des Ausgangstextes. Auf diesen Aspekt wird in der Übersetzer-Ausbildung großer Wert gelegt, da garantiert eine Fehlübersetzung herauskommt, wenn ein Übersetzer ein Wort der Ausgangssprache nicht richtig verstanden hat – mit z.T. amüsanten, z.T. aber auch gravierenden Folgen. Erfahrungsgemäß sind Wörter für Studierende das größte Problem – größer noch als Syntax und Stil. Dies zeigt sich u.a. darin, dass die Studierenden beim Übersetzen eines Textes zunächst einmal viele Wörter nachschlagen. Ziel des Studienbuches ist es, den StudentInnen Verstehenstechniken und -strategien auf kognitionslinguistischer Grundlage an die Hand zu geben, mit deren Hilfe sie professionell übersetzen lernen. Die Neuauflage enthält bibliographische Aktualisierungen und inhaltliche Präzisierungen.

    Almost everything that one claims about meaning is likely to be questioned or disputed. Translation studies also abound in numerous controversies. However, there is no doubt that translations entail a transfer of meaning, even if the exact sense of the word "meaning" remains vague. The same applies to the term "translation equivalence". This book is an attempt to cope with conceptual, terminological, theoretical, and practical difficulties resulting from this nebula of issues. Numerous examples of translated legal, religious and artistic texts are provided to substantiate the claim that translation equivalence, except in the most trivial sense of the term, is indeed a delusion. The book is addressed to all those persons who are interested in mutual relations between semantics and translation studies.
