    Abstract: "Angesichts grenzüberschreitender Wirtschaftsverflechtungen nimmt die Bedeutung von internationalen Organisationen und ihr Einfluss auf die politische, rechtliche und wirtschaftliche Situation in nationalstaatlichen Arenen zu. Als politische Institutionen agieren internationale Organisationen in nationalstaatlich geprägten Kontexten. Jedoch gibt es kaum gesicherte Erkenntnisse, wie diese Organisationen die Formulierung und Implementierung grenzübergreifender Politiken auf Signale aus und Entwicklungen in ihrer Umwelt abstimmen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird argumentiert, dass in den Kommunikations- und Abstimmungsprozessen zwischen internationalen Organisationen und den Akteuren aus ihrer Umwelt Anlässe für Organisationslernen begründet liegen. Das Interaktionsgeschehen ist durch 'boundary spanning units' in den Handlungszusammenhang der Organisation eingebunden.     Abstract: "The research project 'The Internet as a space for interaction', which completed its mission in Autumn 1998, studied the constitutive features of network culture and network organisation. Special emphasis was given to the dynamic interplay of technical and social conventions regarding both the net's organisation as well as its change. The ethnographic perspective chosen studied the Internet from the inside. Research concentrated upon three fields of study: the hegemonial operating technology of net nodes (UNIX) the network’s basic transmission technology (the Internet Protocol IP) and a popular communication service (Usenet). The project's final report includes the results of the three branches explored. Drawing upon the development in the three fields it is shown that changes that come about on the Net are neither anarchic nor arbitrary. The solution generalizes the Nash solution and allows one to interpret a coalition as an institutional player whose preferences are obtained by aggregating the preferences of the individual members. One implication of the solution is that forming a coalition is unprofitable in pure-bargaining situations (the joint-bargaining paradox).     Abstract: The Interpersonal Trust Short Scale - the English-language adaptation of the Kurzskala Interpersonelles Vertrauen (KUSIV3) - measures interpersonal trust as a psychological disposition with just three items (completion time ~ 30 s). The items of the German-language source version were translated into English using the TRAPD approach. Our empirical validation based on a heterogeneous quota sample in the UK shows that all the reliability coefficients of the English-language adaptation and its correlations with external variables are satisfactory and comparable to those of the German-language source version. Moreover, the results of measurement invariance testing suggest that metric measurement invariance of the scale holds when comparing the UK and Germany, implying the comparability of correlations based on the latent factors across the two nations.     Abstract: Serious games are designed to educate, train, or persuade their players on specific topics and issues. While a lot of studies have sought to prove the effects of these games, the overall image and legitimization of serious games has not benefited fully from these efforts. Indicating that the issue stems from the difference between the captive audience exposed to games in effects studies and the contexts in which people come to play serious games in everyday life, the current article sketches out the research that needs to be performed before this gap can be filled. Three theoretical perspectives are offered, in turn looking at serious games as forms of (promotional) communication, personal media experiences, and technological innovations. This analysis results in insights relating to (among others), how the identity of serious games might hinder their diffusion, how expected gratifications could fail to match the intentions of these games, and what could cause someone to ‘adopt’ a

    Abstract: "In diesem Beitrag sollen Sozialisationsprozesse der Geschlechter im Kindes- und Jugendalter vor dem Hintergrund anerkennungstheoretischer und interaktionistischer Überlegungen diskutiert werden. Grenzverletzungen, soziale Etikettierungen, Missachtungen, Überlegenheitsimperative, Abwertungen und verweigerte Anerkennung sind nicht nur im Kontext von Fremdenfeindlichkeit und politisch motivierter Gewalt bedeutsam, sondern kennzeichnen auch soziale Praktiken im Rahmen konflikthafter Auseinandersetzungen und Kämpfe in Geschlechterverhältnissen. Anhand der Ergebnisse eines qualitativen Forschungsprojektes mit Kindern und Jugendlichen beiden Geschlechts wird gezeigt, dass Geschlechterkonflikte im Kindesalter eher durch Grenzüberschreitungen gekennzeichnet sind, während es sich bei den Auseinandersetzungen im Jugendalter um sexualisierte Konflikte mit dem Ziel reziproker Abwertungen handelt."     Abstract: "Die vorliegende Studie untersucht die Auswirkungen eines Trainingsprogrammes für pädagogisches Fachpersonal auf Sprechfreude und sprachliche Leistungen der von ihnen betreuten drei- bis fünfjährigen Kinder. 16 Kindertagesstätten wurden zufällig zu Interventions- bzw. Vergleichsgruppe zugewiesen und 146 Kinder mit zusätzlichem sprachlichem Förderbedarf sowie 49 Erzieherinnen aus diesen ausgewählt. Die Erzieherinnen der Interventionsgruppe absolvierten das 'HIT - Heidelberger Interaktionstraining für pädagogisches Fachpersonal zur Förderung ein- und mehrsprachiger Kinder' (Buschmann/Jooss 2010). Die Erzieherinnen der Vergleichsgruppe erhielten eine theoretische Fortbildung über Sprachentwicklung. Während eines Interventionszeitraumes von vier Monaten wurden die Kinder beider Gruppen in ihren Einrichtungen gefördert.     Abstract: Dieser Betrag untersucht den Begriff der Partizipation im medialen Kontext, indem er ihn mit seinem Schattenbegriff "Propaganda" in Dialog bringt. Propaganda bildet dabei den Gegenpol zu einem demokratiepolitischen Verständnis von Partizipation. Ausgangspunkt ist die scheinbare Abwesenheit von Partizipation im Kontext der klassischen Massenkommunikationstheorie, die jedoch von ihrem ursprünglichen kulturpessimistischen Verständnis der Masse zusehends abrücken musste, um Raum für einen aktiveren und komplexeren Publikumsbegriff zu schaffen. Parallel dazu hat sich ein Theoriestrang gebildet, der Partizipation als Eigenschaft des medialen Apparats sieht, also des technischen Mediums selbst und der sozialen Struktur seiner Produktion. Beide Theoriestränge konvergieren im Kontext der digital vernetzten Medien, wo Propaganda und Partizipation in eine neue Beziehung zueinander und zu den Nutzer_innen eintreten, in der die Trennung der beiden Begriffe ihre Selbstverständlichkeit verliert

    Abstract: Family spaces are considered deeply private environments - taking recording devices into the family home is thus usually not an easy task. And it is even harder to make speakers record themselves without the researcher present. In this article, I describe the development of a recording device for mobile phones as a device to be used in multilingualism research. I will look at how qualitative research data are produced through social, technical and spatial practices, and how the availability of certain technical features influences the possibilities of research in the family. I am interested in understanding ways of organizing multilingual family life and as such, my research is situated in the field of family language policy. As part of an ongoing umbrella project on multilingual transcultural families (MultiFam), in my research I deal with families in Oslo who have been selected because they use both German and Norwegian in the family on a regular basis.     Abstract: Recent research has attempted to describe meaningful experiences with entertainment media that go beyond hedonic enjoyment. Most of this research focuses on noninteractive media, such as film and television. When applied to digital games, however, such research needs to account for not only the content of the medium, but also the unique dimensions of digital games that distinguish them from noninteractive media. Experiences with digital games are shaped by the game mechanics that define the users' interaction with game content, as well as by the opportunities for social interaction that many games offer. We argue that the complex interplay of these dimensions (narrative, mechanics, and context) facilitates or inhibits meaningful user experiences in ways that are unique to digital games

    Abstract: Transdisciplinary research is urgently needed but has rarely been applied in sustainability science. Here, we present a case study for a transdisciplinary approach to identify tipping points in the Jordan River region, an area of severe conflicts and environmental problems. The aim was to identify and prioritize different ecological and social tipping points within a framework of transdisciplinary assessment, using the Jordan River Region as a case study. The methodology included an iterative process in which a multidisciplinary group of scientists and regional stakeholders evaluated emerging tipping points involving professionally facilitated workshops, a correlation analysis, and an anonymous ranking based on specific criteria (practical relevance, scientific novelty, transboundary elements, and feasibility of intervention). Soziale Medien fungieren als Orte informeller und direkter Kommunikation sowie Interaktion, an denen neue kulturelle Ausdrucksformen verhandelt und weitergetragen werden. Hier zeigt sich eine derart komplexe Gemengelage unterschiedlichster und zugleich aufeinander bezogener digitaler Mediennutzungspraktiken, dass die theoretische Annäherung an die Überschüssigkeit sozialer Praktiken in Sozialen Medien nur im Denken eines Entzugs stattfinden kann.     Abstract: With an emphasis on virtual engagement, creativity, and diverse competitive platforms, eSport is being explored as a new activity to achieve development outcomes within the Sport for Development (SfD) movement (Kidd, 2008). Research has shown the potential of eSport to provide opportunities for social interaction, bonding, and building social capital (Trepte, Reinecke, & Juechems, 2012). This exploratory research, conducted in 2019, examines the current eSport landscape and utility of eSport as a space to enact social inclusion and more specifically, in-line with SfD agendas and goals, positive experiences for women and girls. Three interactive focus groups were conducted in the UK and USA (N = 65) involving key stakeholders, including game publishers, SfD organisations, eSport teams, tournament organisers, and gamers.     Abstract: Im Rahmen eines Lehrforschungsprojektes (Integrierter Methodenkurs über vier Semester im Grundstudium des Soziologie-Diplomstudiengangs) wurden im Themenfeld "Geschlechtsspezifische Interaktionsstrukturen" fünf Studien, von denen hier eine vorgestellt wird, mit einmaliger, hypothesenprüfender, standardisierter Beobachtung im Feld mittels SYMLOG durchgeführt. Die Projektgruppe hatte sich eine Themenstellung im Bereich der politischen Arbeit gewählt und dafür die Interaktion in 18 parteiunabhängigen Basisgruppen aus dem Spektrum der 'Neuen sozialen Bewegungen', gemischt- wie gleichgeschlechtlichtlichen, während der Gruppensitzungen untersucht. Nach der Entwicklung von vier Hypothesen wurde die Feldbeobachtung (offen, nicht teilnehmend) mit dem Adjektiv-Ratingbogen des standardisierten Beobachtungssystems SYMLOG (Bales & Cohen 1982) durchgeführt und ausgewertet.     Abstract: Fictional narratives concerning science and technology, and specifically science fictionnarratives, are centred upon questions of difference, alterity and Otherness. Thoughnot representing classical science fiction texts, the analyzed novels display a key roleattributed to technological advancement and thus incorporate and discuss that centralquestion of Otherness in external and internal representation. Firstly, Ian McEwan's novel Machines Like Me (2019) and Kazuo Ishiguro's novel Klara and the Sun (2021) superficially deal with human-machine interaction, but also more subtly mirrorhumaneness in contrast to a perfectionist Machine Otherness that, in turn, questionshuman morality.
