    Abstract: Attitudes towards migrants and refugees are created and reflected at the level of public policies, as well as in local communities which cultivate traditional approaches and a specific worldview. The refugee crisis in Europe in the mid-2010s showed how public opinion translated into voting behaviour and became a source of strength for nationalist anti-immigrant movements and parties across the continent. East-Central Europe was no exception, regardless of the absence of a long-term, massive inflow of refugees. Nevertheless, the migration crisis created a new political narrative which exploited deeply rooted resentments, complexes, and fears. This article aims to analyse the official policy responses to the refugee crisis in the four East-Central European countries: Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, which together constitute the so-called Visegrad Four. It puts the emphasis on the discriminatory practice of misnaming the refugees, which became deeply anchored in the

    Abstract: Der Beitrag richtet den Blick anhand der Leitfrage, was transnationale Bildung in einem postkolonialen Kontext von Asyl und Exil bedeuten kann, auf die seltener thematisierten Formen von Transnationalität. Zunächst wird das Konzept transnationaler Bildung um eine postkoloniale Perspektive erweitert und dann ein erweiterter Bildungsbegriff vorgeschlagen, der es erlaubt, die in- und nonformalen Bildungsprozesse, wie sie im Kontext von Flucht und Asyl häufig sind, zu erfassen. Anhand zweier Fallbeispiele wird schließlich illustriert, was transnationale Bildung unter den postkolonialen Bedingungen des Asyls bzw. Exils bedeuten kann

    Abstract: Was ist performative Bürgerschaft? Wie verändert die Idee und Praxis künstlerischer Forschung den Begriff von Bürgerschaft? Der Beitrag widmet sich dieser grundsätzlichen Fragestellung in der Kombination von künstlerischer Praxis mit Ansätzen aus der Migrationsforschung, der postkolonialen Theorie und politischen Philosophie und zeigt: ein performatives Verständnis von Bürgerschaft bietet einen gewinnbringenden Ansatz, um aktuelle Fragen von Flucht und Vertreibung, Migration und Integration, Bürgerrechte und Bürgerpflichten kritisch zu reflektieren. Das Verhältnis von Bürgerschaft und Performance wird am konkreten Beispiel des künstlerischen Forschungsprojekts Welcome City diskutiert. Das Projekt bietet in seiner Fragestellung, Methodik und Widersprüchlichkeit manch hilfreiche Anknüpfungspunkte für eine kritische Reflexion künstlerischer Forschung sowie Hinweise für einen zeitgemäßen - performativen - Begriff von Bürgerschaft.     Abstract: This special issue explores underrepresented aspects of the political dimensions of global warming. It includes post- and decolonial perspectives on climate-related migration and conflict, intersectional approaches, and climate change politics as a new tool of governance. Its aim is to shed light on the social phenomena associated with anthropogenic climate change. The different contributions aim to uncover its multidimensional and far-reaching political effects, including climate-induced migration movements and climate-related conflicts in different parts of the world. In doing so, the authors critically engage with securitising discourses and resulting anti-migration arguments and policies in the Global North. In this way, they identify and give a voice to alternative and hitherto underrepresented research and policy perspectives.     Abstract: Geographische Informationssysteme (GIS) wurden bereits seit den 1960er-Jahren mit der beginnenden Computerisierung der Geographie entwickelt. Ihr Konzept folgt der Idee, Daten bzw. Informationen in ihren Raumbezügen zu organisieren und analysierbar zu machen. Mit der Weiterentwicklung und wachsenden Leistungsfähigkeit digitaler Infrastrukturen sind inzwischen komplexe Datenmodelle, flexiblere Datenformate, neue Formen der Visualisierung sowie umfassende geostatistische Analysen möglich geworden. Zudem sind kartographische Visualisierungen nicht mehr nur statisch, sondern in einem GIS können überdies Veränderungen der Daten im Zeitverlauf dargestellt und untersucht werden. Der Einsatz von GIS ist aus Forschung, Wirtschaft, Verwaltung und medialer Kommunikation kaum noch wegzudenken. Die Produkte der Arbeit mit GIS umgeben uns vielerorts, oft ohne dass wir uns der dahinterliegenden Architekturen und Annahmen bewusst sind. Neben den eigensinnigen und widerständigen Bewegungen der Migration war diese Zeit gekennzeichnet von zivilem Engagement und von zahlreichen Kunst- und Kulturproduktionen mit, für und über Geflüchtete. Die Autorin fragt ausgehend vom 'langen Sommer der Migration' nach dem Verhältnis von Hype zu Möglichkeitsraum: Wann wird Kunst mit Migration zum Spektakel? Wie stehen ästhetische Schwellenerfahrungen zum Anspruch auf politische Transformation? Auf welche Weise sind Klimawandel und Migration miteinander verschaltet, von wessen Zukunft reden wir?     Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show how psychological trauma resulted from conflicts such as colonialism, immigration, racism, wars and invasion; and even gender discrimination makes its way into postcolonial children's literature. For example, some contemporary writers of children's literature depict the painful experience of young immigrants who are living under constant stress and tension. Others try to depict how the Middle East conflicts and turmoil affect children living under occupation. In all of these cases, children are highly at risk of psychological trauma. This paper is going to discuss two contemporary children's novels which address the issues of immigration and war conflicts: Marina Budhos' Ask Me no questions (2007), and Cathryn Clinton's A Stone in my Hand (2002).     Abstract: This field report presents and discusses methodological issues and challenges encountered in a mixed-methods research project on asylum seekers in Bavaria, Germany. It documents the research design of, and field experiences in, a quantitative survey based on a quota sampling procedure and a qualitative study, both of which were conducted in collective accommodation for asylum seekers at selected locations in that federal state. Standardized PAPI multiple-topic questionnaires were completed by asylum seekers from Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, and Iraq (N = 779); most of the questionnaires were self-administered. In addition, 12 qualitative face-to-face biographical interviews were conducted in order to gain an indepth understanding of attitudes and experiences of asylum seekers.
