Sie sind ein Beitrag zur Kritik an einem Identitätsmodell der Moderne, das umso verbohrter und gewalttätiger auf Autonomie besteht, je abhängiger es von seinem konstitutiven Außen ist. Die AutorInnen weisen nicht nur die Überlagerung von Stereotypen des Rassismus und Sexismus nach, sondern auch deren spielerisch-kontroverse Umdeutung, die subversiv lesbare Bedeutungen hervorbringt. Sie entdecken historische Abweichungen vom rassistisch-sexistischen "main stream", die - so gering sie auch sein mögen - Ansatzpunkte für eine zukünftige postkoloniale Kultur bieten. Schließlich fragen sie nach der kulturellen und ästhetischen Produktivität der weißen Blicke im Kontext von kolonialen und sexuellen Gewaltverhältnissen. Die AutorInnen wollen nicht die soziologischen Kulturtheorien der "postcolonial studies" illustrieren, sondern fokussieren künstlerische und literarische Verfahren, die koloniale Subjektivität und Alterität bilden
