This article examines the use of the standard German language in German speaking Switzerland with focus on the spoken language. It brings to attention sociolinguistic concepts of the Swiss language environment and the role of the standard German language in Switzerland. The goal of the article is to evaluate the role of the standard German language in German speaking Switzerland on the base of theoretical assumptions and empirical research. The article presents the results of an analysis which was performed on the examples of TV broadcast of the Swiss television.

This article focuses on the use of the prepositional genitive instead of the dative for the prepositions 'entsprechend', 'gemäß' and 'nahe'. The aim of this study is to evaluate the frequency of genitives with these prepositions in current newspaper texts and to determine requirements for further research. The selected prepositions are described lexicographically, and the frequency of their genitive and dative usage is evaluated in a corpus developed by the author of this paper within DeReKo.

Beim Lesen einer Tageszeitung wird man mit vielen Fachwörtern kon-frontiert: Einen Teil davon stellen innovative Benennungen dar, deren Bedeutung den Lesern nicht bekannt sein muss. In diesem Beitrag wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie neue Fachwörter aus dem EDV-Bereich von Journalisten präsentiert werden und ob dem Leser eine Hilfe in Form von Definitionen oder Erklärungen angeboten wird. By reading a daily newspaper, the recipient is confronted with technical vocabulary where some of the terms are neologisms of a possibly ob-scure meaning. This article aims to answer the question how new terms from IT area are presented by journalists and if they help provide a better understanding of these terms.
