Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Reading postmodern fiction - once a term limited to denote a decidedly US-American tendency in contemporary literature but now applicable to a whole range of works that have in recent years been published by an international group of writers - one almost invariably gets the uneasy feeling of having read it all before. Recognizing some passages, the reader feels a strong sense of deja vu and keeps wondering whether the passages he or she does not recognize are just from those books he or she has not read. Surely enough, an increasingly large number of postmodern authors tend to conceive their books as a jumble of allusions to themes, structures and scenes from earlier texts, so-called master- or parent texts. Others go even further in alluding to previously published texts. They deliberately draw an one particular, generally acknowledged and highly acclaimed master text or classical piece of world literature and read it parodically against the grain, thus re-writing and re-working a renowned classic into a new work of art. Still others overtly appropriate and even plagiarize titles, paragraphs and whole passages from a variety of literary predecessors. However, allusions, appropriations and plagiarisms are only an the surface of postmodern fiction; beneath are other things, which are formally more interesting: parodistic intertextuality as a leitmotif central to a postmodern synthesis, challenging traditional literary concepts, such as author, genre and literary period an the one hand and originality and inventiveness an the other hand, fragmentation of literature and simultaneous presentation of literary and cinematic scenes and events from a variety of perspectives - also referred to as synchronic approach of telling a story, deconstruction and re-presentation of texts, and, ultimately, recognition of fiction as a world of its own, as a linguistic artefact which does not stand for reality any longer. Consequently, postmodern fiction is not concerned with the process of writing as a one-to-one reproduction of reality. Quite the contrary, postmodern fiction abandons the mimetic principle of conventional narrative and severs its ties to space, time, cause-and-effect and reality and goes "back to the original springs of narrative." Going beyond the limits of the real world and exploring the realms of fantasy and dreams, postmodern fiction evidently manifests a turning back to fairy-tales, religious parables, and the stories of classical and popular mythology. it blends reality and imagination, replaces objectivity with subjectivity, and in doing so opens up "a great amusement park" of an unlimited variety of possible, fictional, and subjectively true stories. Admittedly, some of these stories might seem to pose a bit of a problem as they are not easily understandable to the average reader, and therefore unlikely to find widespread acceptance. Though there are texts that cross the boundary line between readability and incomprehensibility, postmodern fiction an the whole can certainly be said to expand the reader's conception of the world as one of limited possibilities in that it imagines an infinite number of additional worlds - potential or ideal worlds, worlds long gone or yet to come. This study focuses on the six writing men who have been throughout decades regarded as the alpha and omega of British Romanticism: Byron, Coleridge, Keats, Scott, Shelley, and Wordsworth. It sees these men as a representative cohort of their time and examines their letters as results of a reading process. Although letters are usually seen as additional sources of reference in literary studies, in this book they are treated as the dominant information material: correspondence enables to reconsider British Romanticism on the basis of the epistolary communication of the first half of the nineteenth century. The target information from the letters are references to women writers and to their writings. A detailed analysis of the correspondence manages to answer the question whether male Romantics regarded writing women as "provoking" from time to time, as Duncan Wu assumes, and whether the gender identity of the woman author influenced the way male readers read her literary works. The examination of the correspondence thus takes a gendered perspective on British Romanticism. This approach to the target research data discloses a long list of almost 120 names of women writers from different periods and of different literary genres. Whereas the male readers in question have acquired a well-established, stable long-term position within literary history, the women were often marginalized, even forgotten. The study presents plentiful examples proving the discrepancies between what the twenty-first-century reader regards as the core of women's Romantic literary tradition, and what the Romantic reader did.The following women writers are discussed in the study in detail: Susannah Centlivre, Anne Finch (Lady Winchelsea), Ann Radcliffe, Mary Robinson, Felicia Hemans, Mary Shelley, Joanna Baillie, Maria Edgeworth, Maria Jane Jewsbury, Catherine Grace Godwin, and Intro -- Table of Contents -- Note on Abbreviations -- Acknowledgements -- Introduction -- 1. The economics of CO2 capture and storage in relation to the possibility of significant leakage of CO2 from geological reservoirs once this greenhouse gas has been stored artificially underground will be among the main determinants of whether CCS can significantly contribute to a deep cut in global CO2 emissions. This paper presents an analysis of the economic and climatic implications of the large-scale use of CCS for reaching a stringent climate change control target, when geological CO2 leakage is accounted for. The natural scientific uncertainties regarding the rates of possible leakage of CO2 from geological reservoirs are likely to remain large for a long time to come. We present a qualitative description, a concise analytical inspection, as well as a more detailed integrated assessment model, proffering insight into the economics of geological CO2 storage and leakage. Our model represents three main CO2 emission reduction options: energy savings, a carbon to non-carbon energy transition and the use of CCS. We find CCS to remain a valuable option even with CO2 leakage of a few %/yr, well above the maximum seepage rates that we think are likely from a geo-scientific point of view.

We show that local potential maximizer (\cite{morris+05}) with constant weights is stochastically stable in the log-linear dynamics provided that the payoff function or the associated local potential function is supermodular. We illustrate and discuss, through a series of examples, the use of our main results as well as other concepts closely related to local potential maximizer: weighted potential maximizer, p-dominance. We also discuss the log-linear processes where each player's stochastic choice rule converges to the best response rule at different rates. For 2 player 2 action games, we examine a modified log-linear dynamics (relative log-linear dynamics) under which local potential maximizer with strictly positive weights is stochastically stable. This in particular implies that for 2 player 2 action games a strict (p1,p2)-dominant equilibrium with p1+p2<1 is stochastically stable under the new dynamics. -- Log-linear dynamics ; stochastic stability ; local potential maximizer ; equilibrium selection ; comparison of Markov chains

The new Ben Sira fragment of manuscript C, which Elizur had published recently in Tarbiz 76 (2008), shows only the lines of the manuscript. In addition her numbering could confuse a little. So it was necessary to proof the cola and compare them with the text editions. In summary there were found the following cola: Sir 3,27a.b(A); 6,5a-10b(A).12a-15b(A).18a.ba; 20,30a-31b; 21,22a-23b.26a.b; 22,11a-12b.21a-22b; 23,11a.b; 25,7c.d; 36,24b(B,Bm) und 37,1a.2a-2b(B,Bm,D). Italic font marks the new Hebrew cola.

The Oresteian trilogy (Agamemnon, Libation Bearers, Eumenides) established the themes of Greek tragedy - the inexorable nature of Fate, the relationship between justice, revenge, and religion. The plays dramatize the murder of Agamemnon by his wife Clytemnestra, the revenge of her son Orestes, and his judgement by the court of Athens. We investigate the ways in which a linear order on a finite set A can be consistently extended to a linear order on a set Pk(A) of multisets on A of fixed cardinality k. We show that for card(A) = 3 all linear orders on Pk(A) are additive and classify them by means of Farey fractions. For card(A) minor/equal 4 we show that there are non-additive consistent linear orders of Pk(A), we prove that they cannot be extended to a linear order of Pk(A) for K sufficiently large. We give the lower bounds for the number of additive linear orders in P2(A) and the total number of consistent linear orders in P2(A).

This paper studies implications of uncertainty about the arrival date of a competitive CO2 backstop technology for the design of cost-effective CO2 emission trading schemes. For this purpose, we develop a dynamic general equilibrium model that captures empirical links between CO2 emissions associated with energy use, the rate and direction of technical change and the economy. We specify CO2 capture and storage (CCS) as the backstop technology whose competitiveness is anticipated or not. We find that the discounted welfare loss associated with the environmental target is lower if CCS is not anticipated and that CO2 shadow prices are then relatively high in the years before CCS is competitive. By not simply postponing the implementation of an emission reduction strategy until CCS is competitive, one relies more on economy-wide technical change and its welfare-enhancing technology externalities, thus allowing for a higher steady state.

Multi-gas approaches to climate change policies require a metric establishing "equivalences" among emissions of various species. Climate scientists and economists have proposed four classes of such metrics and debated their relative merits. We present a unifying framework that clarifies the relationships among them. We show that the Global Warming Potential, used in international law to compare greenhouse gases, is a special case of the Global Damage Potential, assuming (1) a finite time horizon, (2) a zero discount rate, (3) constant atmospheric concentrations, and (4) impacts that are proportional to radiative forcing. We show that the Global Temperature change Potential is a special case of the Global Cost Potential, assuming (1) no induced technological change, and (2) a short-lived capital stock. We also show that the Global Cost Potential is a special case of the Global Damage Potential, assuming (1) zero damages below a threshold and (2) infinite damage after a threshold. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change uses the Global Warming Potential, a simplified cost-benefit concept, even though the UNFCCC frames climate policy as a cost-effectiveness problem and should therefore use the Global Cost Potential or its simplification, the Global Temperature Potential. -- Climate change ; multi-gas climate policy ; Global Warming Potential ; equivalences between greenhouse gases

New in paperback. This is an original first novel of an accomplished poet: erotic, humorous, exotic and sensuous. It describes the adventures of two young writers, set in the midst of political repression, anti-Semitism and violence during the Latin American dictatorships of Brazil and Argentina in the 60s. Kohon's text might be deceptively read as personal reminiscences. In fact, this is one of the many achievements of this wonderful piece of fiction

Damit erweist sich auch das theoretische Konzept als angemessen und steht nun für weitere Untersuchungen zur Verfügung Zusammenfassung: Working on the basis of a theoretical modelling of the relationship between reality and fiction, the following thesis outlines the development and evaluation of a training programme for young German Hauptschule students. Said programme is aimed at developing effective differentiation between televisual fact and fiction. The empirical evaluation in a 2x2 Pre-Post-Design, in presence of a control group, attests to the high effectiveness of the training, with all featured variables considered. As such, the theoretical concept too is demonstrated to be appropriate and can now be drawn upon in future research

Grundlagenwerk. (2 A)
