The Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages and The Queen's College are seeking to appoint an outstanding and experienced academic to fill the Schwarz-Taylor Professorship of the German Language and Literature with effect from 1 January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful applicant will provide academic leadership within the Sub-Faculty of German and undertake teaching and research in the field of modern German Studies, understood as covering the literature and language of German-speaking regions within the broader context of their history, thought and culture (1700 to the present day).
You will have a world-leading research and publications record in German Studies, native-equivalent command of spoken and written German and English, and excellent teaching skills at both graduate and undergraduate level. You will play a leading role in graduate recruitment to the Sub-Faculty of German and the teaching of graduate students, and will have the ability to promote German Studies both within Oxford and internationally.
