Translation Studies, NeMLA 2024 (NeMLA 2024, March 7-10, 2024) (Boston, MA)

Veranstaltungsdatum:

07.03.2024-07.03.2024

Deadline Abstract:

30.09.2023

Contemporary translation theory reflects the breakdown in the traditional dichotomy “author” versus “translator,” since it views the translator no longer as a subordinate figure to the author, but as an equal co-creator of the literary work, who rewrites the original text in another language and thus actively participates in the creative process. How does attention to this changing relationship between the author and the translator help with understanding of the creation and interpretation of meaning and the subsequent longevity of the translated work in a new environment? Using examples from various national literatures, we would like to investigate the key concepts behind a “faithful translation”: what are the obligations of the translator to the source text, and what is the relationship between the original and the translation? Papers focusing on self-translations done by bilingual authors are also welcome. Please submit your abstracts through NeMLA official portal https://www.buffalo.edu/nemla/convention.html
