Deadline Abstract
31.03.2024

From 23-25 September 2024 the University of Vienna, Humboldt-University of Berlin and the network CENTRAL will jointly host the international conference “Imagining Central Europe. (Re-)Shaping a Geopolitical Concept in Literature, Visual Arts, and Popular Culture” at the University of Vienna. The conference is held in cooperation with the CENTRAL network to mark the network’s 10th anniversary.

We invite 10 PhD students who work on Central European regions in the fields of cultural, literary, and media studies as well as other humanities to participate in the international conference. In a PhD Elevator Pitch Event these young Central European experts will have the opportunity to introduce their projects in short presentations (up to three minutes) and get feedback from the senior experts. They will also take part in all conference activities, such as a City Drift and Open Space workshop. The participation in the event (and the whole conference) will help the speakers get feedback to their work and expand their scientific network.

We invite all conference participants to attend the conference in person in Vienna. The organizers will cover the costs for travel and accommodation. However, we also understand the needs of people with care responsibilities or health restrictions who are unable to travel to Vienna. For this reason, we will also enable online participation in individual cases. Please let us know in your application whether you would like to participate in person or online.

If you are interested in attending, please send us a short abstract (150-180 words, in English) of the project you would like to present at the Elevator Pitch event and a bio (100 words), by March 31, 2024 to Anna Seidel (seidelay@hu-berlin.de). Notifications of acceptance will be sent by April 30, 2024.

The conference language is English.
