    Abstract ; Untersucht werden komische Holocaust-Texte und Erzählstrategien von Autorinnen und Autoren der Postmemory-Generation. Dabei wird gezeigt, dass diese Texte ohne die kanonischen Texte der Holocaust-Literatur Überlebender, die ''Lagerliteratur'', undenkbar wären. Analysen komischer Holocaust-Texte von Maxim Biller, Eva Menasse, Edgar Keret und Robert Schindel machen deutlich, wie und warum in diesen Texten gegen klassische Postulate der Komiktheorie verstoßen werden muss. Dabei werden das innovative Potential und die Grenzen komischer Schreibweisen in der Holocaust-Literatur der Postmemory-Generation herausgearbeitet. Gleichzeitig werden auf Grundlage der Textanalysen die Komiktheorien selbst hinterfragt und Kategorien wie Groteske, Humor, absurde Komik und Zynismus einer Analyse unterzogen. Diese Veröffentlichung geht zurück auf eine Magisterarbeit am Institut für deutsche Literatur der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin aus dem Jahr 2006/07. ; Abstract ; The thesis explores narrative strategies in Holocaust literature by authors of the postmemory generation such as humorous approaches. It shows that texts from the canon of Holocaust literature written by survivors are the presupposition of humorous texts by authors of the postmemory-generation. Novels and stories by Maxim Biller, Eva Menasse, Edgar Keret, and Robert Schindel are analyzed and confronted with key postulates of comic theory. Vice versa comic theory and its categories such as humor, absurdity, grotesque, and cynicism are subjected to critical analysis.

    Abstract: This book explores Walter Benjamin, Siegfried Kracauer and Alexander Kluge's analyses of the role that a rejuvenation in the capacity for imagination can play in encouraging us to reconceive the possibilities of the past, the present, and the future outside of the parameters of the status quo. The concept of imagination to which the title of the book refers is not a strictly defined, stable concept, but rather a term which is employed to refer to a capacity that facilitates both an active, creative relationship to one's environment, and a process of mediation between the outside world and one's own experiences and memories. Through a detailed analysis of their engagements with subjects that span a broad range of historical and thematic contexts (including topics as diverse as literature, children's play, film, photography, history, and television) the book charts the extent to which the concept of imagination plays a central role in Benjamin, Kracauer, and Kluge's explorations of a

    Am Beispiel einer chinesischen Kurzgeschichte soll aufgezeigt werden, dass die Qualität einer Übersetzung elementar mit spezifischen Erzählstrukturen, insbesondere mit ganzheitlichen textuellen Makrostrukturen zusammenhängen kann. Und das wird ganz besonders deutlich bei einer Kurzgeschichte, die selbst ein Textschema nachzeichnet, das sich in Europa entwickelt hat, nämlich den Stream-of-consciousness. Der Chinese Wang Meng übernimmt eigentlich ein Textschema aus der westlichen Kultur. Vor dem Hintergrund der Textvorstellungen in der deutschen Kultur wird es durch die deutschen Übersetzer aber wieder als etwas Fremdes wahrgenommen, das verändert werden und der deutschen Kultur angepasst werden muss, obwohl der Stream of consciousness mit seiner literarischen Äußerungsform, zwar oft nicht so leicht verständlich und gewöhnungsbedürftig, in Europa aber bekannt und als stilistische Konvention akzeptiert ist. Daraus lässt sich ableiten, dass einerseits Makrostrukturen eines fremdsprachlichen Textes, zum Beispiel auch typische Wesenszüge bestimmter Textsorten, stärker wahrgenommen werden müssen, andererseits ist bei einem interkulturellen Perspektivenwechsel, insbesondere in Bezug auf kulturelle Äußerungen in China, die sich selbst auf Europa beziehen, im Zusammenhang mit Verfremdungsabsichten Vorsicht geboten.

Censor-baiting, provocative, simultaneous publisher of the literary elite and of ‘dirty books’, Jack Kahane’s Obelisk Press published Henry Miller, Anaïs Nin, Lawrence Durrell, D. H. Lawrence, and James Joyce among others. At the same time Kahane subsidised his literary endeavours with cheap erotica and trash fiction from long-forgotten eccentrics such as New York Daily News’ Rome correspondent and self-styled ‘Marco Polo of Sex’ N. Reynolds Packard. Kahane’s business model was simple: if a book was banned in the UK and US it could be profitably published in Paris. Here, for the first time, Neil Pearson has pulled together the incendiary story of Obelisk, including biographies of Kahane and his major and minor authors, and a bibliography of Obelisk books.
