Contestations over the meaning and practice of sexuality have become increasingly central to cultural self-definition and critical debates over issues of identity, citizenship and the definition of humanity itself. In an era when a religious authority can declare lesbians antihuman while some nations legalise same-sex marriage and are becoming increasingly tolerant of a variety of non-normative sexualities, it is hardly surprising that science fiction, in turn, takes up the task of imagining a diverse range of queer and not-so-queer futures. The essays in Queer Universes investigate both contemporary and historical practices of representing sexualities and genders in science fiction literature. Queer Universes opens with Wendy Pearson’s award-winning essay on reading sf queerly and goes on to include discussions about ‘sextrapolation’ in New Wave science fiction, ‘stray penetration’ in William Gibson’s cyberpunk fiction, the queering of nature in ecofeminist science fiction, and the radical challenges posed to conventional science fiction in the work of important writers such as Samuel R. Delany, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Joanna Russ. In addition, Queer Universes offers an interview with Nalo Hopkinson and a conversation about queer lives and queer fictions by authors Nicola Griffith and Kelley Eskridge

eng: The thesis surveys the reading woman from the ancient world till the 20th century. The intention is to show the development of the motive from its beginning. The focus lies upon the secular reading woman. The argumentation is concentrated on collected pictures, which are approximately thousand paintings of reading woman.
The topic woman and the book was only peripherally discussed by the art historian research. A more detailed research can be found in the historian, literature, linguistic sciences and woman studies; dealing with aspects like the reading habit of women, her influence on the book and reading culture, contemporary arguments on the reading woman etc.
These studies are a part of the work to get as much as possible a complete picture of the reading woman.
The thesis is ordered chronological and shows per era the new upcoming reader motive. At the beginning of each chapter stands an introduction of the contemporary reading culture, especially of the female reading habits.
The pictorial evidence has shown that the motive of the woman reader (of non religious books) was most frequently painted at the end of the 18th till the 19th century. During this time also develop the most new subjects of the woman reader. Remarkable is that the ambivalent argument concerning the woman reader persists until the end of the 19th century and is also shown in the paintings. These pictures and other types of the woman reader are discussed and are allocated to their iconographical archetype.

eng: The Alps as a symbol of a still intact natural environment and people who live in harmony with nature. Vacations in the Alps equal an intense landscape experience. But is what you see really what you get? A stereotype image, based on hopes and aspirations from days gone by? The world presented to tourists in alpine tourism is purely idyllic: The Austrian Alps - a beautiful, picturesque landscape with natural, authentic people, who have a simple and happy life. But if you grew up in a tourism environment, you notice soon enough that not all that shines is gold, especially in the evening, with an entire restaurant full of hungry guests, who would all like to be fed at the same time, or at your hard-worked-for weekend, with an imminent change of guest shifts and mountains of dirty linen, towels, tablecloths and napkins piling up in the laundry room. Tourism means stress, not idyll in the countryside.
"Tourism is hard business and not a game." How the pastoral idyll could persist for such a long time and how people in tourism deal with it are questions this paper tries to deal with. First, I shall try to show the genesis of the mountain idyll, what its triggers were and how they evolved over decades and centuries even, how it became a fixture in peoples minds and how it grew into a major parameter of the valley peoples identity.
