    Warriors, Witches, Whores: Women in Israeli Cinema' is a feminist study of Israel?s film industry and the changes that have occurred since the 1990s. Working in feminist film theory, the book adopts a cultural studies approach, considering the creation of a female-centered and thematically feminist film culture in light of structural and ideological shifts in Israeli society. Harris situates these changes in dialogue with the cinematic history that preceded them and the ongoing social inequalities that perpetuate women?s marginalization within Israeli society

    "The Golden Age of Comics (roughly the late 1930s through the 1950s) saw the birth and rapid growth of the industry, but unfortunately and unsurprisingly the role of women was often problematic during this period. Few women creators worked in comics, and those that did frequently worked anonymously or under pseudonyms and were subject to workplace harassment and discrimination. Similarly, female characters were often poorly presented and framed in a sexualized fashion. Although some elements of this history have been told piecemeal there hasn't yet been a comprehensive look at women in comics during this period. Brunet and Davis examine female creators and characters across a broad range of genres to create a historical narrative of representation and culture that goes beyond previous scholarship"--

    A comparison between the situation of women in Yemen before and after the unification. In a first step a historical review of the former two Yemens, the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen and the Yemen Arab Republic, and their different policies towards women is given. A short summary of the political, social and economic events under which policies towards women were defined in the United Yemen, the Republic of Yemen, follows. It is shown that the situation of women has deteriorated due to these events and due to the fact that the Personal Status Law of the Republic of Yemen issued in 1992 is based on the Muslim Shariah and took on the restricted policies towards women which prevailed in the former Yemen Arab Republic.     Examining women's access to higher education and participation in the labour force in Lebanon the authors show that the outbreak of the civil war in 1975 marked a turning point. In need of human resources many traditional patterns of women's roles were abolished during the civil war years. Especially in the 1980s the number of educated and employed women from varying social backgrounds increased. However, the gap between women's and men's participation in the labour force remains due mainly to parential preferential treatment. (DÜI-Mjr)

    The participation of women in the labour force in Jordan is very low although social and economic conditions are relatively good compared to many other developing countries and the labour law grants equal rights and opportunities to women and men. The article examines the economic, demographic, cultural and educational factors on women's participation in the labour force stressing the great impact of the latter two. The study is based mainly on data obtained from the 1982-83 Manpower Survey in Jordan. Concluding it draws up a list of policy measures which might help to increase women's participation in the labour force. (DÜI-Mjr)
