    Main description: Die Untersuchung ist ein Beitrag zur Theorie der Ideen- und Begriffsgeschichte, zur Analyse des Bildungsbegriffs und zur Goetheforschung. Anknüpfend an die Konzeptionen Luhmanns und Kosellecks entwirft sie ein neues Konzept der historisch-semantischen Komponentenanalyse, das die Rekonstruktion der Vernetzung eines Begriffes mit zeitgleichen Begriffen und dessen historische Situierung im Dreieck von Sinn, Funktion und Problemreferenz ermöglicht. Exemplarisch behandelt wird der Bildungsbegriff; im Mittelpunkt steht dabei Goethes Autobiographie "Dichtung und Wahrheit", die als vorbildliche Darstellung eines Bildungsganges im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert gewirkt hat

    Main description: The study is designed as a contribution a) to the theory underlying the history of ideas and concepts, b) to the analysis of the term Bildung, and c) to research on Goethe. Taking its bearings from the ideas of Luhmann and Koselleck, it proposes a new concept, that of historico-semantic componential analysis, allowing the reconstruction of the connections between the term in question and other contemporary concepts, and a historical definition of the place occupied by Bildung in the triad formed by meaning, function and problem-reference. Central to the examination of the term Bildung exemplifying the procedure proposed is a discussion of Goethe's autobiographical "Dichtung und Wahrheit", a text that in the 19th and 20th centuries has enjoyed the status of an exemplary portrayal of an individual's progress towards and attainment of Bildung

Ausgehend von einer intensiven Diskussion gängiger Begriffe und Theoreme widmet sich die Arbeit der Frage, wie das Bilden und Verstehen von Metaphern auf dem Hintergrund eines pragmatischen Modells adäquat beschrieben werden kann. Auf der Grundlage eines umfangreichen Zeitungskorpus wird an einem Beispiel aus dem Multimedia-Diskurs aufgezeigt, wie eine Metapher in den Sprachgebrauch eingeführt wird und unter welchen Bedingungen es von der wiederholten Verwendung zur Habitualisierung und schließlich zur Konventionalisierung einer metaphorischen Lesart kommt

    Main description: The study is concerned with fundamental aspects of figurative speech. The methodology underlying the approach is a concept of communicative grammar which has found its way into linguistics via language-analytic philosophy. Proceeding from an intensive discussion of traditional concepts and theorems, the study sets out to inquire into the way the formation and understanding of metaphors can be adequately described against the background of a pragmatic model. On the basis of a large corpus of newspaper texts, an example taken from the discourse on multi-media is drawn upon to show how a metaphor is introduced into language usage and the conditions under which repeated use can lead to habitualization and ultimately to conventionalization of a metaphorical expression

    Main description: This work advances the thesis that the symbolism of the ancient mysteries was of central significance for the self-interpretation of the early generation of German Romantics. Literary works and writings on the theory of art by Schlegel, Schleiermacher, Novalis, Loeben and Eichendorff draw upon this source to outline an exclusive form of 'knowledge' that is neither mythodological nor general and can only be communicated by special modes of discourse. The resulting form of intellectual identity formation is interpreted here as a reaction to modernization processes taking shape in society and in the communication of knowledge. With a view of doing justice to the connotative richness of these Romantic writings, there are also detailed chapters on Antiquity and the immediate wellsprings of Romantic self-interpretation to be found in German Enlightenment thinking

    Main description: Looking by turns at the history of concepts, knowledge and scholarly practice in the 18th century, the study traces the changes undergone in the course of the first half of that period by ideas on imagination as an intermediary faculty between the bodily and the spiritual. Whereas the early Enlightenment regarded imagination as a 'lower faculty' subordinate to the logic of reason, the rehabilitation of sensual perception brought with it a massive reinstatement of imagination as a 'way of knowing'. In the course of this process, it gained central status as a case in point for the investigation of interrelations between psychic and physiological processes representing a major challenge for philosophers and medical scholars alike. By contrast, poetics and aesthetics advocated formal education in aesthetic and sensual perception as a way of channelling and curbing potential extravagances in the use of the imaginative faculty

Jede interpretierende Aussage über einen literarischen Text setzt Annahmen darüber voraus, auf welche Weise literarische Texte Bedeutung erzeugen, vermitteln oder veranlassen können. In der Literaturtheorie und Ästhetik der letzten Jahrzehnte wurden verschiedene Bedeutungskonzeptionen entwickelt. Eine allgemein akzeptierte Klärung des Begriffs steht bislang aus. Die entsprechende Form intellektueller Identitätsbildung wird als Reaktion auf wissens- und sozialgeschichtliche Modernisierungsprozesse gedeutet. Um der konnotativen Fülle der romantischen Schriften gerecht zu werden, enthält die Arbeit jeweils ein ausführliches Kapitel zur Antike und zu den unmittelbaren Voraussetzungen der romantischen Selbstdeutung in der deutschen Aufklärung

    Main description: This work advances the thesis that the symbolism of the ancient mysteries was of central significance for the self-interpretation of the early generation of German Romantics. Literary works and writings on the theory of art by Schlegel, Schleiermacher, Novalis, Loeben and Eichendorff draw upon this source to outline an exclusive form of 'knowledge' that is neither mythodological nor general and can only be communicated by special modes of discourse. The resulting form of intellectual identity formation is interpreted here as a reaction to modernization processes taking shape in society and in the communication of knowledge. With a view of doing justice to the connotative richness of these Romantic writings, there are also detailed chapters on Antiquity and the immediate wellsprings of Romantic self-interpretation to be found in German Enlightenment thinking

    Die Krise ist ein omnipräsentes Phänomen in unserer Gesellschaft. Was eine Krise jedoch grundlegend charakterisiert wurde von der Forschung bislang nur unzureichend ermittelt. Dieser Lücke nimmt sich das Buch an. Die Sichtweise der Rhetorik als Erforschung strategischer Kommunikationsprozesse ist dafür eine hilfreiche Ausgangslage: Zeitgleich existieren ganz unterschiedliche Krisenauffassungen. Wir müssen daher stets beachten, wer wann von einer Krise spricht. Eine groß angelegte Korpusanalyse der Parteiprogramme in der BRD von 1949 bis 2017 ermöglicht den Krisen-Topos unter Beachtung unterschiedlicher ideologisch motivierter Perspektiven näher zu beleuchten. Die Krise ist ein argumentativer Joker mit dem sich politische Reformen begründen lassen, eigene Verdienste gelobt werden können und die Versäumnisse des politischen Gegners angeprangert werden können. Mithilfe des Krisen-Topos decken die Parteien vermeintlich lang verschüttete Missstände auf und rufen zu Wandel und Neuausrichtung auf. Die Ergebnisse der Analyse können sowohl genutzt werden, um Krisendiskurse zukünftig besser zu verstehen als auch um sie aktiv mitzugestalten The book examines for the first time from a rhetorical perspective the use of the crisis-topos in public and political discourse.
