    Main description: Der Band dokumentiert die Beiträge eines internationalen Symposiums, das sich die Klärung und praktische Umsetzung textgenetischer Editionskonzepte zum Ziel setzte. Einen gewichtigen Schwerpunkt in den hier versammelten Aufsätzen bildet die Gegenüberstellung der in Frankreich konzipierten "Critique Génétique" mit Sehweisen der im deutschsprachigen Raum entwickelten Textgenetik. Daneben werden einzelne Editionen nach ihrer textgenetischen Ausrichtung befragt, Einzelprobleme textgenetischer Darstellung diskutiert und Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes elektronischer Datenverarbeitung geprüft. Trotz des hohen Anteils editionsspezifischer Fragen erschließt der Sammelband nicht nur künftigen Herausgebern einen wichtigen Bereich editorischer Tätigkeit, sondern eröffnet auch den nicht mit Editionen befaßten Literaturwissenschaftlern neue Dimensionen der Textbetrachtung

    Main description: The volume assembles the papers delivered at an international colloquium devoted to the clarification and practical implementation of text-genetic concepts of scholarly editing. The essays brought together here center to a high degree on a comparison of the Critique Génétique approach developed in France and the persuasions underlying Text Genetics as conceived in German-speaking countries. In addition, individual editions are examined for their text-genetic purview, individual problems of text-genetic description are discussed and possibilities for the employment of electronic data-processing investigated. Despite the obvious bias towards questions of scholarly editing, the volume casts light on an important area of editorial activity in a way that also opens up new vistas on textual criticism and study for other literary studies scholars not themselves actively engaged in editing work

    Main description: Because of different versions in Hebrew and Greek manuscripts pertaining to Ben Sira, the text editions in common use partly conform to the Greek text, but some of them restore the original organization or use a new enumeration. The intention behind this synoptic enumeration is to dispel the confusion caused by differing enumerations. The synopsis is based on a reconceptualized multilingual text edition (Hebrew, Syriac, Greek, and Latin) with continuous numbering that essentially adopts and complements the Greek text in accordance with Ziegler's classic edition. This book integrates Greek editions (Ziegler, Swete, and Rahlfs), the Hebrew editions (Sefer, Beentjes), the Syriac edition (de Largarde, Mossul, Ambrosianus, Calduch-Benages, and Liesen, Peshitta-Institut in Leiden), the Latin edition (Rome and Stuttgart), the standard translation, the revised Luther text, the New Revised English Standard Version, and Sauer/JSHRZ.

    Main description: Die aufgefundenen hebräischen Handschriften zu Ben Sira enthalten mittlerweile ca. 64% des hebräischen Textes und weisen untereinander zum Teil erhebliche Abweichungen auf. In der Forschung greift man daher auf die mehr oder weniger vollständigen griechischen, aber auch auf syrische Übersetzungen zurück. Die griechische Version, die älteste und bedeutendste, enthält aber innerhalb der Kapitel 30-36 Vertauschungen. Die Texteditionen richten sich nun zum Teil am griechischen Text aus, stellen aber teilweise die ursprüngliche Ordnung wieder her oder benutzen eine neue Zählart. Die Zählsynopse möchte den Wirrwarr unterschiedlicher Zählungen beheben und basiert auf einer neu konzipierten polyglotten (hebräischen, syrischen, griechischen und lateinischen) Textedition, die im Winter 2003/2004 in dieser Reihe vorgelegt wird. In diesem kolometrisch gegliederten Text sind alle Überhänge des Griechischen (GII), Hebräischen und Syrischen eingearbeitet. So entstand eine durchlaufende Zählung, die den griechischen Text nach der klassischen Edition Zieglers im wesentlichen übernimmt und im eben genannten Sinne ergänzt. Eingearbeitet wurden griechische Editionen (Ziegler, Swete, Rahlfs), die hebräischen Editionen (Sefer, Beentjes), die syrische Edition (de Lagarde, Mossul, Ambrosianus, Calduch-Benages und Liesen, Peshitta-Institut/Leiden), die lateinische Edition (Rom, Stuttgart), die Einheitsübersetzung, der revidierte Luthertext, die New Revised English Standard Version und Sauer/JSHRZ.

Das Verhältnis der vielen verschiedenen Versionen und Rezensionen des Tobitbuches ist ein notorisches Problem für die Textkritik und die Geschichte des antiken Judentums. Das Fehlen einerverlässlichen Textzusammenstellung erschwert eine Untersuchung dieses Problems. In diesem Band werden erstmals die maßgeblichen griechischen, lateinischen, hebräischen, aramäischen und syrischen Versionen (manche bislang übersehen oder praktisch unzugänglich) zusammengestellt und teilweise mit verbesserten Lesarten geboten. Ein einheitliches Verszählungssystem und die synoptische Darstellung der wichtigsten Versionen erleichtern den Vergleich. Mit Einführungen, kritischem Apparat, Kommentaren zum Verhältnis der Versionen und ausführlichen Konkordanzen. The relationships between the many different versions of Tobit present a famous and important problem for text-critics and historians of Judaism; however, study of the subject has been hindered by the lack of any single, reliable collection. This book brings together, for the first time, a wide range of texts (Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac), some previously overlooked or virtually inaccessible, based in many cases on new readings. A single system of verse numeration is applied to all, and the key versions are presented synoptically, to facilitate comparison. Introductions and critical notes are provided for each text, along with succinct observations on the relationships between them in each passage, and concordances to assist stylistic and linguistic study.

The essays brought together here center to a high degree on a comparison of the Critique Génétique approach developed in France and the persuasions underlying Text Genetics as conceived in German-speaking countries. In addition, individual editions are examined for their text-genetic purview, individual problems of text-genetic description are discussed and possibilities for the employment of electronic data-processing investigated.     Main description: Because of different versions in Hebrew and Greek manuscripts pertaining to Ben Sira, the text editions in common use partly conform to the Greek text, but some of them restore the original organization or use a new enumeration. The intention behind this synoptic enumeration is to dispel the confusion caused by differing enumerations. The synopsis is based on a reconceptualized multilingual text edition (Hebrew, Syriac, Greek, and Latin) with continuous numbering that essentially adopts and complements the Greek text in accordance with Ziegler's classic edition. This book integrates Greek editions (Ziegler, Swete, and Rahlfs), the Hebrew editions (Sefer, Beentjes), the Syriac edition (de Largarde, Mossul, Ambrosianus, Calduch-Benages, and Liesen, Peshitta-Institut in Leiden), the Latin edition (Rome and Stuttgart), the standard translation, the revised Luther text, the New Revised English Standard Version, and Sauer/JSHRZ.

    Main description: Die aufgefundenen hebräischen Handschriften zu Ben Sira enthalten mittlerweile ca. 64% des hebräischen Textes und weisen untereinander zum Teil erhebliche Abweichungen auf. In der Forschung greift man daher auf die mehr oder weniger vollständigen griechischen, aber auch auf syrische Übersetzungen zurück. Die griechische Version, die älteste und bedeutendste, enthält aber innerhalb der Kapitel 30-36 Vertauschungen. Die Texteditionen richten sich nun zum Teil am griechischen Text aus, stellen aber teilweise die ursprüngliche Ordnung wieder her oder benutzen eine neue Zählart. Die Zählsynopse möchte den Wirrwarr unterschiedlicher Zählungen beheben und basiert auf einer neu konzipierten polyglotten (hebräischen, syrischen, griechischen und lateinischen) Textedition, die im Winter 2003/2004 in dieser Reihe vorgelegt wird. In diesem kolometrisch gegliederten Text sind alle Überhänge des Griechischen (GII), Hebräischen und Syrischen eingearbeitet. So entstand eine durchlaufende Zählung, die den griechischen Text nach der klassischen Edition Zieglers im wesentlichen übernimmt und im eben genannten Sinne ergänzt. Eingearbeitet wurden griechische Editionen (Ziegler, Swete, Rahlfs), die hebräischen Editionen (Sefer, Beentjes), die syrische Edition (de Lagarde, Mossul, Ambrosianus, Calduch-Benages und Liesen, Peshitta-Institut/Leiden), die lateinische Edition (Rom, Stuttgart), die Einheitsübersetzung, der revidierte Luthertext, die New Revised English Standard Version und Sauer/JSHRZ.

    Es gehört schon lange zu den grundlegenden Einsichten der Bibelwissenschaft, dass biblische Texte poetische Merkmale aufweisen. Neu aber ist, dass in den letzten Jahrzehnten biblische Texte wie bzw. als Literatur betrachtet werden. Dabei handelt es sich um einen umfassenden "Genrewechsel" in der Forschungsperspektive dieser Texte: Sie werden von Glaubensdokumenten zu literarisch-ästhetischen Objekten. Im vorliegenden Band werden Textbegriffe und literaturwissenschaftliche Begriffe wichtiger Vertreter der Forschung geklärt. Dann konzentriert sich die Untersuchung auf die David-Batseba-Erzählung (2Sam 11f.), die von den sog. literary approaches gerne als prooftext genommen wird. An den konkreten Auslegungen zu dieser Erzählung werden die Unterschiede zwischen historischer und literaturwissenschaftlicher Interpretationen und die Vorzüge und Grenzen von literaturwissenschaftlichen Zugängen zu biblischen Erzähltexten aufgezeigt.

    A number of biblical scholars and theologians have had interest in speech act theory ever since J.L. Austin (1911-1960) outlined how a speaker can perform actions with words. John R. Searle has made a significant contribution to speech act theory after Austin by rooting his philosophy of language in the philosophy of mind; however, Searle's categories remain largely under or misrepresented in theological circles. In this book, the author works exclusively with Searle's categories to examine five NT texts on the 'blood-of-Christ' motif (Rom 3:25; Heb 9:12; John 6:52-59; Rev 1:5b-6; Rev 7:13-14). The main result is a broader understanding of Christ's blood in a literal sense rather than simply as a metaphor for his death.

    Es gehört schon lange zu den grundlegenden Einsichten der Bibelwissenschaft, dass biblische Texte poetische Merkmale aufweisen. Neu aber ist, dass in den letzten Jahrzehnten biblische Texte wie bzw. als Literatur betrachtet werden. Dabei handelt es sich um einen umfassenden "Genrewechsel" in der Forschungsperspektive dieser Texte: Sie werden von Glaubensdokumenten zu literarisch-ästhetischen Objekten. Im vorliegenden Band werden Textbegriffe und literaturwissenschaftliche Begriffe wichtiger Vertreter der Forschung geklärt. Dann konzentriert sich die Untersuchung auf die David-Batseba-Erzählung (2Sam 11f.), die von den sog. literary approaches gerne als prooftext genommen wird. An den konkreten Auslegungen zu dieser Erzählung werden die Unterschiede zwischen historischer und literaturwissenschaftlicher Interpretationen und die Vorzüge und Grenzen von literaturwissenschaftlichen Zugängen zu biblischen Erzähltexten aufgezeigt.

Because of different versions in Hebrew and Greek manuscripts pertaining to Ben Sira, the text editions in common use partly conform to the Greek text, but some of them restore the original organization or use a new enumeration. The intention behind this synoptic enumeration is to dispel the confusion caused by differing enumerations. The synopsis is based on a reconceptualized multilingual text edition (Hebrew, Syriac, Greek, and Latin) with continuous numbering that essentially adopts and complements the Greek text in accordance with Ziegler's classic edition. This book integrates Greek editions (Ziegler, Swete, and Rahlfs), the Hebrew editions (Sefer, Beentjes), the Syriac edition (de Largarde, Mossul, Ambrosianus, Calduch-Benages, and Liesen, Peshitta-Institut in Leiden), the Latin edition (Rome and Stuttgart), the standard translation, the revised Luther text, the New Revised English Standard Version, and Sauer/JSHRZ. Die aufgefundenen hebräischen Handschriften zu Ben Sira enthalten mittlerweile ca. 64% des hebräischen Textes und weisen untereinander zum Teil erhebliche Abweichungen auf. In der Forschung greift man daher auf die mehr oder weniger vollständigen griechischen, aber auch auf syrische Übersetzungen zurück. Die griechische Version, die älteste und bedeutendste, enthält aber innerhalb der Kapitel 30-36 Vertauschungen. Die Texteditionen richten sich nun zum Teil am griechischen Text aus, stellen aber teilweise die ursprüngliche Ordnung wieder her oder benutzen eine neue Zählart. Die Zählsynopse möchte den Wirrwarr unterschiedlicher Zählungen beheben und basiert auf einer neu konzipierten polyglotten (hebräischen, syrischen, griechischen und lateinischen) Textedition, die im Winter 2003/2004 in dieser Reihe vorgelegt wird. In diesem kolometrisch gegliederten Text sind alle Überhänge des Griechischen (GII), Hebräischen und Syrischen eingearbeitet. So entstand eine durchlaufende Zählung, die den griechischen Text nach der klassischen Edition Zieglers im wesentlichen übernimmt und im eben genannten Sinne ergänzt.     Der Band dokumentiert die Beiträge eines internationalen Symposiums, das sich die Klärung und praktische Umsetzung textgenetischer Editionskonzepte zum Ziel setzte. Einen gewichtigen Schwerpunkt in den hier versammelten Aufsätzen bildet die Gegenüberstellung der in Frankreich konzipierten "Critique Génétique" mit Sehweisen der im deutschsprachigen Raum entwickelten Textgenetik. Daneben werden einzelne Editionen nach ihrer textgenetischen Ausrichtung befragt, Einzelprobleme textgenetischer Darstellung diskutiert und Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes elektronischer Datenverarbeitung geprüft. Trotz des hohen Anteils editionsspezifischer Fragen erschließt der Sammelband nicht nur künftigen Herausgebern einen wichtigen Bereich editorischer Tätigkeit, sondern eröffnet auch den nicht mit Editionen befaßten Literaturwissenschaftlern neue Dimensionen der Textbetrachtung. The volume assembles the papers delivered at an international colloquium devoted to the clarification and practical implementation of text-genetic concepts of scholarly editing. The essays brought together here center to a high degree on a comparison of the Critique Génétique approach developed in France and the persuasions underlying Text Genetics as conceived in German-speaking countries. In addition, individual editions are examined for their text-genetic purview, individual problems of text-genetic description are discussed and possibilities for the employment of electronic data-processing investigated. Despite the obvious bias towards questions of scholarly editing, the volume casts light on an important area of editorial activity in a way that also opens up new vistas on textual criticism and study for other literary studies scholars not themselves actively engaged in editing work.

    In this work, Xavier Lakshmanan argues for a textual linguistic approach to Christian theology. The book takes its shape in conversation with Paul Ricœur’s philosophical thought, demonstrating how Ricœur’s hermeneutic philosophy can inform the way Christians interpret and appropriate biblical narratives without delimiting the potential of the text or eroding the distinctiveness of its language. The text can be appropriated in ways that address the fundamental questions of life. New meanings are constantly generated from the same text in order to describe and redescribe existence, and form human identity. The self is linked inseparably with narrative; every interpretation of narrative is at the same time a reinterpretation of the self and of its possibilities. In such interpretative processes, the reader interprets the text and the text interprets the reader at the same time through an interactive reading. Accordingly, the aim of interpreting the narratives is to open up the world of the text in front of the text and in front of the reader. Here what the text uncovers is the «textual» structure of existence itself. The reality that unfolds through language discloses the possibilities of existence, and in this way the text creates a future. A revised identity emerges against the horizon of that future to give a coherent and dynamic account of the self against a horizon of hope. «This book clearly and lucidly presents the central features of Paul Ricœur’s hermeneutic theory.
