    Abstract ; Kulturspezifische Ausdrücke spielen bei der verbalen Kommunikation eine wichtige Rolle, dies gilt umso mehr für die interkulturelle Kommunikation. Missverständnisse können durch Fehlselektion eines situativ ungeeigneten Ausdrucks ausgelöst werden, effiziente und störungsfrei verläuft eine Kommunikation hingegen erst bei einem tieferen Verständnis dieser kulturtragenden Ausdrücke. Kulturspezifische Ausdrücke werden in der interkulturellen Kommunikation als sogenannte Hotwords bezeichnet. Ihre Bedeutungen lassen sich schwer in eine andere Sprache übertragen und ebenfalls schwer im Unterricht erlernen, da jede Kultur einem eigenen Konzept folgt. Zur Erhöhung der Sprachsicherheit und des tieferen Sprachverständnisses muss daher im Unterricht eine intensive Beschäftigung mit den abstrahierten semantischen Merkmalen dieser Hotwords erfolgen, da im Sprachverarbeitungsprozess die situationsgemäße Identifizierung präferiert über die semantischen Merkmale kulturspezifischer Ausdrücke erfolgt. Erst dann kann im mentalen Lexikon beim Sprachverstehen und bei der Sprachproduktion eine der Situation angemessene Identifizierung dieser Indikatoren erfolgen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die semantischen Merkmale der höflichkeits- und ge-sichtsbezogenen Ausdrücke im Chinesischen im chinesisch-kulturellen Kontext erarbeitet und ihre in den Chinesisch-Deutschen Wörterbüchern vorhandenen Übersetzungen ins Deutsche diskutiert. ; Abstract ; Culture-specific expressions play an important role in verbal communication; this applies even more to the intercultural communication. Misunderstandings can be triggered by the faulty selection of a situational appropriate expression; on the other hand, efficient and trouble-free communication can be achieved by a deeper understanding of these cultural expressions. Culture-specific expressions are the so-called Hotwords in intercultural communication. Their meanings are difficult to transfer into another language and also difficult to learn in the classroom, because each culture follows its own concept. Therefore to increase language skills and understanding an intense preoccupation with the abstract semantic features Hotwords must be done in the classroom, because in the speech processing the situation proper identification prefers to be done through the semantic features of culture-specific expressions. Only then these proper indicators of situation can be identified in the mental lexicon during language comprehension and language production successfully. In this paper, the semantic features of politeness and face-related Words in Chinese in the Sino-cultural context are developed and their translations into German in the existing Chinese-German dictionaries are discussed.

    We know that history can be affected - and effected - by language and translations, a primary example being Luther´s translation of the Bible into German. Even the political processes of very complex modern societies are controlled by language processes, including deficiencies and communication misunderstandings. But how was the striving for peace transmitted between the various dynasties and societies in Europe? What was the political and cultural role of language in making and preserving peace? A number of individual studies have addressed the diplomatic methods and strategies of the premodern era, but they did not systematically treat the communicative dimension of peace negotiations of early modern times. The contributions in this edited volume are concerned with this complex question and touch on many individual aspects as well.

    Las reflexiones sobre la actividad de traducción y sus resultados han estado marcadas históricamente por el mayor o menor alejamiento respecto de la obra original. También a través del tiempo se ha intentado dar respuesta a la pregunta ¿qué es una buena traducción? con la formulación de reglas generales, es decir, prescribiendo. Afortunadamente, hacia mediados del siglo XX, comienza a sistematizarse el estudio de la actividad de traducción y se entiende la complejidad que la sustenta, ya que en ella confluyen aspectos diversos, tanto lingüísticos como cognitivos, culturales o comparativos. De allí en más, los estudios sobre la traducción abandonan la prescripción y asumen una mirada descriptiva y explicativa, que se relaciona con las normas del género discursivo que se traduce, con las normas sociales del público para el cual se traduce y con las que se establecen entre la editorial o cliente y el traductor. Desde las aparentemente ingenuas definiciones de traducción, pasando por un recorte histórico de la evolución de su estudio, este libro recorre la relación entre lingüística y traducción, discute la evolución de los conceptos de unidad de traducción y equivalencia, expone la problematización del sentido en la lexicología y la terminología, que son campos afines con la traducción, e introduce la relación entre cultura y traducción.

    In der beginnenden Frühen Neuzeit zeichnet sich unter dem Einfluss der humanistischen Bildungsbewegung im Verhältnis zur antiken Literatur ein Umbruch im Vergleich zur mittelalterlichen Antikenrezeption ab: Die Schriften der Autoren des klassischen Altertums werden zum Teil wiederentdeckt, ediert und kommentiert; zahlreiche Übersetzungen werden angefertigt. In der Auseinandersetzung mit dem inhaltlichen und stilistischen Vorbild der antiken Werke ergeben sich in der Volkssprache vielfältige Veränderungen im Literatursystem, die den programmatisch an die antike Literatur anknüpfenden Neuansatz der frühneuzeitlichen Poetik durch Martin Opitz und andere vorbereiten, von diesen aber zugunsten französischer und niederländischer Vorbilder verschwiegen werden. In fünf Sektionen (Übersetzungsreflexion und Sprachbewusstsein, Institutionen und Funktionen, Intermedialität, Poetik und Rhetorik, Literaturvarianten und Gattungstransfer) wird der Beitrag der Übersetzungskultur für die Entwicklung der deutschen Sprache und Literatur der Frühen Neuzeit neu bestimmt

    This volume deals with Translation Research (TR) and Interpreting Research (IR). In the main contribution, Daniel Gile from the Université Lumière Lyon 2 (France) explores kinship, differences and prospects for partnership between the two. He gives an overview of the history of research into translation and interpreting, explores commonalities and reviews differences between translation and interpreting, and discusses implications for research. He comments critically on the foci and paradigms in both TR and IR and on the epistemological and methodological problems they raise. He concludes by saying that Translation and Interpreting Studies are gaining both social cohesion and some weight as an academic identity. The contributions by Jan Cambridge, Andrew Chesterman, Janet Fraser, Yves Gambier, Moira Inghilleri, Zuzana Jettmarová, Ian Mason, Mariana Orozco, Franz Pöchhacker and Miriam Shlesinger focus on translator and interpreter behaviour, research methodology, types of research, disciplinary autonomy and interdisciplinarity, theory and practice, research training, and institutional constraints. There is general agreement that in view of commonalities and differences between translation and interpreting, each step in the investigation of one can contribute valuable input towards investigation of the other

    Noch als Student verfasste der deutsche Dichter Paul Fleming (1609–1640) ein literaturtheoretisches Gedicht namens Satyra, in dem er sich über den zu engen Klassizismus der Leipziger Universität beklagte und seine stilistische Plautus-Nachfolge rechtfertigte. Dieses wichtige, stellenweise schwer verständliche Gedicht wird hier zusammen mit einer Übersetzung und einem begleitenden Kommentar präsentiert. In mehreren Spezialkapiteln wird die Satyra in den Kontext der damaligen Zeit, vor allem in die Tradition der Plautusapologie eingeordnet. In einem Anhang wird das bisher von der Forschung nicht erkannte Vorbild, eine Satire des Plautusverehrers Friedrich Taubmann (1565–1613), kritisch ediert, übersetzt und erläutert.

    Die Beiträge dieses Bandes untersuchen, wie Kultur im Kontext von Religion übersetzt wird. Die literaturwissenschaftlichen, historischen und linguistischen Studien zeigen, wie unterschiedliche kulturelle Traditionen und Sprachen über Grenzen hinweg kommuniziert werden. Die Aufsätze widmen sich dem missionarischen Feld des frühen Mittelalters und kolonialisierten Kulturen von Lateinamerika, Indien, China, Afrika und Australien vom 16. bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Des Weiteren werden literarische Werke in Hinsicht darauf untersucht, wie sie Kultur übertragen und übersetzen: zum einen ein christliches Theaterstück im islamischen Kontext und zum anderen ein haitianisch-nordamerikanischer Diaspora-Roman. Ein weiterer Beitrag diskutiert, wie das Konzept von Religion selbst im akademischen Bereich erklärt und übertragen wird. Durch die Anwendung unterschiedlicher methodischer Ansätze zeigen die Autoren innovativ auf, wie Kultur übersetzt werden kann.Mit Beiträgen vonGwilym Colenso, Fiona Darroch, Sabine Dedenbach-Salazar Sáenz, Pär Eliasson, Sarah Irving, Alison Jasper, David Moore, Brian Murdoch, Richard H. Roberts, Frauke Sachse, Roxana Sarion. This book addresses the translation of culture in the context of religion. The contributions, which analyse texts in literary, ethnohistorical and/or linguistic terms, show how different cultural traditions and languages are communicated across boundaries. They include studies of the missionary context of the Early Middle Ages and of colonially dominated cultures in Latin America, India, China, Africa and Australia, from the 16th to the early 20th century; and they analyse literary works with respect to how they transmit and translate culture: one a Christian play in the context of Islam, the other one a novel of the Haitian diaspora in the USA; another contribution presents the challenges of how the concept of religion itself is conveyed in contemporary scholarly contexts. By using different methodological tools, the authors show the manifold and innovative ways in which this field of the translation of culture can be approached. Though often considered "the forgotten war," lost between the end of World War II and the start of the Cold War, the Korean War was, as Daniel Y. Kim argues, a watershed event that fundamentally reshaped both domestic conceptions of race and the interracial dimensions of the global empire that the United States would go on to establish. He uncovers a trail of cultural artefacts that speaks to the trauma experienced by civilians during the conflict but also evokes an expansive web of complicity in the suffering that they endured.Taking up a range of American popular media from the 1950s, Kim offers a portrait of the Korean War as it looked to Americans while they were experiencing it in real time. Kim expands this archive to read a robust host of fiction from US writers like Susan Choi, Rolando Hinojosa, Toni Morrison, and Chang-rae Lee, and the Korean author Hwang Sok-yong. The multiple and ongoing historical trajectories presented in these works testify to the resurgent afterlife of this event in US cultural memory, and of its lasting impact on multiple racialized populations, both within the US and in Korea.     Moses Maimonides's Guide of the Perplexed is the greatest philosophical text in the history of Jewish thought and a major work of the Middle Ages. For almost all of its history, however, the Guide has been read and commented upon in translation-in Hebrew, Latin, Spanish, French, English, and other modern languages-rather than in its original Judeo-Arabic. This volume is the first to tell the story of the translations and translators of Maimonides' Guide and its impact in translation on philosophy from the Middle Ages to the present day.
