    Die Neun Heldinnen stellen eine Personenfolge dar, die im Spätmittelalter als Pendant zur älteren Reihe der Neun Helden entstand. Wie der männliche Kanon beanspruchen die weiblichen Figuren Ruhm auf der Grundlage ihrer überlieferten Taten. Ausgehend von Frankreich (‚neuf preuses‘) entwickelten sich in England (‚Nine Ladies Worthy‘) und Deutschland (‚Neun gute Heldinnen‘ / ‚Neun beste Frauen‘) unterschiedlich ausgeprägte Traditionsstränge mit einer variierenden Personenauswahl. Ursprünglich aus literarischen Quellen stammend, bilden die Neun Heldinnen einen ikonografischen Topos, der in verschiedensten visuellen Medien in Erscheinung tritt. Üblicherweise im Verbund mit den Neun Helden werden sie in der Buchmalerei dargestellt, auf Fresken und Tafelmalerei, als monumentale Skulpturen, auf Tapisserien, Spielkarten und als Teil festlicher Entrées. Die inhaltliche Konzeption des weiblichen Kanons unterlag einer Vielzahl rezeptionsgeschichtlicher Veränderungen. Als Bestandteil der mittelalterlichen aristokratischen Lebenswelt dienten die Neun Heldinnen repräsentativen Zwecken und verkörperten Modelle weiblichen Herrscher- und Rittertums, während ihre spätere frühneuzeitliche Konzeption durch den Einbezug antiker und biblischer Heldinnen Anschluss an frühhumanistische Diskurse zum Tugendheldentum fand.

    Die Gruppe der Neun Guten Helden (frz. ‚neuf preux‘) verbildlicht einen spätmittelalterlichen Kanon von Personen, die für ihre Tugendhaftigkeit und ihre heroischen Taten verehrt wurden. Zunächst nur als literarischer Topos vertreten, entwickelten sich die Neun Helden später ebenso zu einem kunstgeschichtlichen Motiv, das sich in unterschiedlichen medialen Ausprägungen wiederfindet. In diesen Darstellungen werden die Neun Helden zu idealen Repräsentanten ritterlicher Tapferkeit erhoben, deren Ruhm und Vorbildlichkeit sich auf die auf dem Schlachtfeld geleisteten Heldentaten begründet. Die Verkörperung ritterlicher Vorbildfiguren hatte dabei nicht nur rein ästhetische oder repräsentative Funktionen, sondern verfolgte darüber hinaus appellative wie auch moralisierende Absichten. Die Gruppe umfasste mit Hektor von Troja, Alexander dem Großen und Julius Caesar drei Helden der heidnischen Antike, mit Judas Makkabäus, König David und dem Propheten Josua drei Vertreter des Alten Testaments und mit König Artus, Karl dem Großen und Gottfried von Bouillon drei Figuren, die das Christentum repräsentierten. Die Neun Helden traten zu Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts in Frankreich zuerst in der Literatur auf und gaben danach zu zahlreichen Darstellungen Anlass. Von Frankreich ausgehend fanden sie ihren bildlichen Niederschlag in Deutschland, Österreich, Italien, England und Dänemark.

    Spain alone produced a Renaissance drama comparable to that of England, yet the two nations were enemies, separated by the worldwide conflict of Catholics and Protestants. Major dramatists on both sides addressed the divisive issues: Lope de Vega, Tirso de Molina, and Calderon de la Barca in Spain; Shakespeare, Marlowe, Chapman, Massinger, and Middleton in England. In this comprehensive work, a distinguished authority on drama examines history plays, masques, and spectacles, with close attention to the changing development of the two national dramas, he directs us to the study of their suprrising similarities.The author's lucid exposition makes possible an assessment of the commentary on historical events provided by the dramatists.     Reiseberichte, besonders über Indien, sind durchzogen von sich wiederholenden Argumentationsmustern und -strukturen. Sie bilden damit ein prädestiniertes Untersuchungskorpus für die Topik. Anhand von etwa 40 Indien-Reiseberichten, die sich als Kreuzungspunkt diverser um 1900 virulenter Diskurse darstellen und bisher kaum erforscht sind, rekonstruiert und analysiert Maria Hinzmann etwa 150 Topoi. Aus der Perspektive einer kulturwissenschaftlich orientierten Literaturwissenschaft und mit Anleihen aus der Korpuslinguistik liefert sie eine bahnbrechende Neugrundlegung der Topik, deren transdisziplinäres Potential bis in die Digital Humanities reicht

Le fonti sono un tema/problema che ha una presenza forte e discussa nella critica letteraria: in certe epoche sono state ritenute un valido strumento interpretativo, e in altre sono state svilite, considerate materia di erudizione e non di interpretazione. Sono sempre rimaste in vita nelle ricerche filologiche e hanno trovato nuova attualità nella teoria dei topoi e dell’intertestualità. L’introduzione ricostruisce questa storia che poi la raccolta illustra con sondaggi vari e diversificati sia in senso teorico che in senso diacronico. I saggi vertono tutti su argomenti di letteratura spagnola e ispanoamericana, scandagliati nei secoli dalle origini al Novecento.
