    In this ground-breaking collection of essays, the editors and authors develop the idea of Linguistic Citizenship. This notion highlights the importance of practices whereby vulnerable speakers themselves exercise control over their languages, and draws attention to the ways in which alternative voices can be inserted into processes and structures that otherwise alienate those they were designed to support. The chapters discuss issues of decoloniality and multilingualism in the global South, and together retheorize how to accommodate diversity in complexly multilingual/ multicultural societies. Offering a framework anchored in transformative notions of democratic and reflexive citizenship, it prompts readers to critically rethink how existing contemporary frameworks such as Linguistic Human Rights rest on disempowering forms of multilingualism that channel discourses of diversity into specific predetermined cultural and linguistic identities

    Klappentext: Desde la Transición, tanto el PSOE como el PP han priorizado sus intereses partidistas y evitado tomar conciencia de la importancia clave que tienen las lenguas para la convivencia en España. Al mismo tiempo, los gobiernos auto-nómicos nacionalistas han aprovechado todos los recursos políticos a su alcance para aprobar normativas que no han sido más que un intento de imponer el monolingüismo en sus comunidades. Este libro aboga por promulgar una ley que considere a todas las lenguas como lenguas del Estado y deje de lado propuestas que sólo pretenden defender a una de ellas. Un proyecto global y ecuánime que comprenda a todas las lenguas oficiales y sus hablantes y, lo más importante, que tenga una firme y clara voluntad de inclusión. Con ese fin, pone sobre la mesa varios ejes a partir de los cuales sea posible superar las limitaciones y los malentendidos que, desde la recuperación de la democracia, el plurilingüismo ha provocado en nuestro país

    In this ground-breaking collection of essays, the editors and authors develop the idea of Linguistic Citizenship. This notion highlights the importance of practices whereby vulnerable speakers themselves exercise control over their languages, and draws attention to the ways in which alternative voices can be inserted into processes and structures that otherwise alienate those they were designed to support. The chapters discuss issues of decoloniality and multilingualism in the global South, and together retheorize how to accommodate diversity in complexly multilingual/ multicultural societies. Offering a framework anchored in transformative notions of democratic and reflexive citizenship, it prompts readers to critically rethink how existing contemporary frameworks such as Linguistic Human Rights rest on disempowering forms of multilingualism that channel discourses of diversity into specific predetermined cultural and linguistic identities
