; Abstract ; This study investigates the specific constitution of the entity that presents the words in the poem as exemplified in the Confessional Poetry. For this purpose, the term perspective generating medium has been framed. A technical concept modeled in analogy to the theoretical and practical apparatus of narratological studies. It has been created as an all-inclusive concept capable of embracing all thinkable forms possible in a given poem. The addition of a modifying qualification prevents the emergence of a pleonasm. The perspective generating medium creates, exclusively for each poem, one of the countless forms of perspective or/and an array of perspectives as well as one of the countless versions of reality or/and a polydimensional shape of simultaneously existing realities in the characteristic idiom of the poem, by menas of which the words of the poem are transmitted. The generally accepted consensus about the unmistakable distinction between empirical author and the I of the poem constitutes one of the fundamental premises of this investigation. A prerequisite whose validity is demonstrated by its empirical application at the end of the study. Because, in contrast to many of the existing interpretations, the critical examination of these selected poems succeeds without relying upon the author's biography. Meaning and function of the perspective generating medium become clear by replacing one medium for another one (Transponierungsverfahren, Stanzel). Since substituting the entity initially designed by its author in a specific poem for another one contributes to throw light not only on one of the author's purposes for shaping this textual level in this specific way, but also on the importance of this category as a whole. Thanks to the identification and classification of the different shapes that the perspective generating medium yields, shapes that appear in the poetical works of the four poets here selected, it was possible to argue persuasively why the German term "lyric I" (lyrisches Ich) stands for only one of the many subclasses the poem can embody, that is to say, a special type of romantic poem. A detailed analysis of Sylvia Plath's poem "The Moon and the Yew Tree" demonstrates step by step how this model, presented in the first part of this study in theoretical form, is finally put into practice. It serves as a guiding example for the lyric expert as well as for the lover of poetry. It explores the different ways of shaping perspectives in modern poetry and develops significant views which concern the historical background of the Confessional Poets.

Abstract: Dreams, as reflections of the subconscious, seem to be an essential ingredient of Nerval’s and Keats’s poetry. The two poets show that poetry is an apt place to explore the blurred boundary and continuity between dream and reality. This idea seems to be in close relation with both poets’ search for identity and inner self. The female figure that, also, appears in many of the two poets’ poms is closely related with the poets’ obsession with dreams in which they seek to ward off depression and find proof for imagination. Nerval and Keats use poetry to understand their dreams and give them shape and meaning. They create mysterious worlds in their poems where dreams and reality are intermingled. In both Nerval and Keats, the significance of dream lies in the fact that it plays the role of a safe haven for the poet who is afraid of the unstable reality and identity. Both seem to seek refuge in dream where a stable identity and a permanent beauty may be found
