    ger: Die Produktion der Autoren Italiens nach der Vereinigung erweist sich als nützliches Dokument, um die Widersprüche und Schwierigkeiten darzustellen, die die Jahrzehnte nach der Geburt des Landes begleiten, sowie die Entwicklung des Gefühls der nationalen Identität, das in den Überlegungen der Autoren erkennbar ist. Aus ihren Werken geht eine Idee des Staates hervor, die über die Idee der Nation herrscht, und das folgende Misstrauen der Bevölkerung, die sich von den Machthabern nicht repräsentiert fühlte. Sie wollten Italien schaffen, bevor die Italiener existierten, und wenig Erfolg hatten Transformationspolitik, Kriegsunternehmen oder die Konstruktion nationalistischer Mythen, um die Bürger für Regierungsziele zu gewinnen.
    In dieser Perspektive wird die Arbeit von Luigi Pirandello in dieser Doktorarbeit analysiert: aus dem Studium seiner literarischen Produktion will man die Ausarbeitung einer Krise der nationalen Identität hervorheben, die der Schriftsteller und die italienische Bevölkerung in der historischen Zeit zwischen 1861 und die zwanzig Jahre nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg gereift haben. Der Vergleich mit dem Schriftsteller Giovanni Verga trägt zur Erreichung dieses Ziels bei, der auch die weit verbreitete Wahrnehmung des vereinigten Italien in seiner Zeit durch die sozialen Probleme und die Spannungen zwischen dem neuen Staat und den entferntesten Regionen der Halbinsel dargestellt hat.
    Die persönliche Geschichte und die Perspektive des Schreibens beider Autoren ermöglichen Erwartungen zu erkennen, die an eine hypothetische "imaginäre Gemeinschaft" gestellt werden: sie sind wichtige Indikatoren einer konzeptionellen Trennung zwischen "Heimat" und "Land", die von der Mehrheit der Bevölkerung wahrgenommen wird. Die Identifizierung dieses letzteren Aspekts durch die literarischen Texte ermöglicht auch die Integration der offiziellen Geschichtsschreibung, um die Forschung nicht auf die Gegenüberstellung zwischen dem Norden und den Randbezirken des Landes zu beschränken, und auf andere Weise über die Erzählung der italienischen Nationalgeschichte nachzudenken. Unter dieser Sichtweise, die interpretative Umkehrung, die Pirandellos Kunst kennzeichnet, enthüllt nicht nur Aspekte eines Italiens, die dem einseitigen Bild des Landes, das durch den Staat geschaffen wurde widersprechen, sondern fördert auch die Achtung der Unterschiede des Anderen an. Pirandellos Schreiben lädt daher ein, ein besseres Gefühl der Staatsbürgerschaft zu entwickeln, das den Wert jedes Einzelnen anerkennt: es vermittelt eine Botschaft von hohem bürgerlich-moralischen Aussage, aber vor allem mutig in einem Italien, das im Faschismus versank. eng: The second-half of XIX-century Italian literary production becomes an useful representative document of the contradictions and difficulties which accompany the period following the birth of the country, as well as of the development of the national identity feeling recognizable in the authors’ thoughts. From their writing an idea of “State” prevailing over the idea of “Nation” emerges, with the consequent mistrust of the population which has felt itself not represented by whom exercising the political power. It was chosen to make Italy before the Italians existed, therefore transformist policies, war ventures or nationalistic myths proved useless in the attempt of bringing the citizens closer to the government’s aims.
    Under such perspective Luigi Pirandello’s literary production is analysed in this PhD thesis: through the study of his writing it aims to come out a national identity crisis elaborated by the writer and the Italian people in the historical period between 1861 and the twenty years following the First World War. The comparison with the writer Giovanni Verga contributes to achieve this target, because also this second author has witnessed to the contemporary spread perception of the united Italy, by representing the social issues and problems created by the difficult relationship between the new State and the furthermost peninsula’s regions.
    The authors’ personal events and the perspective of their writing enable to reveal expectations placed in a hypothetical “imagined community”, which are key indicators of a possible conceptual disconnection between “Motherland” and “Nation” perceived both by the two writers and most population. By individuating this latter aspect through the texts permits also to integrate the official historiography and to avoid to restrict the research simply within the opposition between centre-north and the peripheral areas of the country, in order to ponder on the narration of the national Italian history in a different way. Under this point of view, the interpretative reversal characterizing the Pirandellian art not only reveals Italy’s peculiarities as opposed to the one-sided imagine of the country created by the reason of State, but it also spurs on the respect of the differences of the Other. Pirandello's writing thus invites to develop a better sense of citizenship that recognizes the value of each individual: it expresses a message of a high civic-moral content, but above all courageous in an Italy that was sinking into Fascism.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, memory in Ukraine was released, creating alternate visions of the past, new national heroes, and new victims.
