    ger: Der große gegenseitige Einfluss welchen Theater und Politik aufeinander ausüben ist vor allem im Irland des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts sehr ausgeprägt und anhand von Ereignissen, wie etwa den "Playboyriots" oder der recht ähnlichen Reaktion des Theaterpublikums auf Stücke wie "The Plough and the Stars" leicht ersichtlich. Die in dieser Arbeit untersuchten Dramen reflektieren oder kommentieren wichtige historische Ereignisse der irischen Zeitgeschichte und nehmen dabei teils gegensätzliche Betrachtungsweisen ein. Dramatiker wie Sean O'Casey, Frank McGuinness, Dennis Johnston oder Brian Friel bedienen sich des Mediums des Dramas um über die Geschehnisse in ihrem Vaterland zu reflektieren und ihre persönlichen politischen Botschaften weiterzugeben. Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist es aufzuzeigen und zu untersuchen wie die oben genannten Dramatiker das politische und historische Geschehen, insbesondere den Ersten Weltkrieg, den Osteraufstand von 1916 und die Geschehnisse des Blutsonntags 1972 reflektieren, in ihre Dramen inkorporieren und somit das Geschehen kommentierten.Zum Zweck dieser Analyse werden zunächst die historischen Ereignisse in eigenen Kapiteln kurz und knapp dargelegt. Diese historischen Darstellungen sind dann gefolgt von einer Analyse von je zwei irischen Dramen, welche das jeweilige historische Ereignis thematisieren:Sean O'Casey - The Silver Tassie & Frank McGuinness - Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching towards the Somme, Sean O'Casey - The Plough and the Stars & Dennis Johnston - The Scythe and the Sunset, Frank McGuinness - Carthaginians & Brian Friel - The Freedom of the City.Die aus diesen Detailanalysen gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden anschließend zusammengefasst und ein Vergleich der verschiedenen dargestellten Sichtweisen vorgenommen. eng: Literature, theater and politics have always influenced each other in a variety of contexts, however, this influence is particularly apparent when it comes to what is often referred to as the "Irish Literary Revival" as promoted by such important authors as W.B. Yeats or Lady Gregory. Not only has the Irish National Theater had an important role to play in the Irish Freedom Movement and the creation of an Irish Free State, the Republic of Ireland, but it has also payed tribute to such problems as World War One or the Northern Ireland Troubles. Playwrights such as Sean O'Casey, Frank McGuinness, Dennis Johnston or Brian Friel are using the means of the unique medium of drama to convey their political messages and to reflect on 20th century Irish history. This thesis will examine, explore and illustrate how the above mentioned playwrights reflect on and deal with important aspects of Irish history, such as World War I, the Easter Rising or Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland.The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the different points of view dramatists take on important historical developments and events and to illustrate how these different attitudes and positions are represented in a number of their plays. For this purpose each of the three above listed historical cornerstones of Irish contemporary history will at first be reflected on as such. The plays treating with these events will then be compared and put in context with both, the actual historical facts as well as the other plays dealing with the very same topic. For this purpose the following plays will be evaluated and compared: Sean O'Casey's The Silver Tassie & Frank McGuinness's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching towards the Somme, Sean O'Casey's The Plough and the Stars & Dennis Johnston's The Scythe and the Sunset, Frank McGuinness's Carthaginians & Brian Friel's The Freedom of the City.

    Memory and its use as historiography is a central theme in Dani Gal’s (* 1975) work. Since 2005, the artist has compiled a large archive of historical vinyl records; he combines these sound documents in his installations and performances – often collaborations – with electronically generated sound. He initially deconstructs this historical material, puts it in a contemporary context, and reconstructs in this way – by structuring the previously widely scattered material – a layer of the past that would otherwise remain sensorially irretrievable. He thus stimulates our study of history, opening up a truly surprising additional perspective. Dani Gal examines how history, or rather, how its recording is constructed, packaged, presented and consumed; yet, it is not simply about the individual vinyl record as an aesthetic object, but also all the information related to it. In addition to numerous records on World War II and its protagonists (»Hitler spricht«, Goebbels, Roosevelt, Churchill, etc.), it is, above all, those American records of the post-war period that stand out in his collection: speeches by Kennedy, Nixon, Jesse Jackson and LP-collections with original recordings from 1967, 1968 and following years. This raises questions about historic events and their medial presentation; Dani Gal immediately creates an ironic distance by nebulizing the analogous semantic cosmos of the spoken language with digital-electronic sound clouds he produces. The book at hand not only documents his work based on meticulous research in the labyrinths of media archives, but rather interweaves – in the actual sense of that word – the source material with pop culture and forms something like a photographic ready-made.     ger: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Darstellung von historischen Themen im Spätmittelalter, innerhalb derer unterschiedliche Zeitebenen vorkommen. Der Künstler sieht sich bei der Gestaltung historischer Themen vor die Aufgabe gestellt, eine Szene wiederzugeben, die einer anderen Zeit und Lebenswelt entspringt. Im Spätmittelalter werden solche Szenen, gemeint sind hier auch oder sogar vor allem Szenen aus dem religiösen Kontext, in ein Umfeld versetzt, das Motive aus der Gegenwart des Künstlers und seiner Zeitgenossen in unterschiedlichen Abstufungen aufnimmt. Die aus dieser historisch unkorrekten Vorgehensweise entstehenden Anachronismen, die Motivationen, die ihrer Entstehung zugrunde liegen, und die Formen und Ausprägungen, die sie annehmen, analysiert die vorliegende Arbeit, wobei der zeitgenössische Rezipient ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Analyse ist. So gibt die Arbeit einen Überblick darüber, inwiefern die spätmittelalterliche Frömmigkeit die Produktion von Andachtsbildern beeinflusste bzw. inwiefern das Geschichtsbild des Mittelalters, das Wissen über Geschichte und die spezifische Einstellung der damaligen Menschen zur Zeit hier eine Rolle spielen. Dabei beschränkt sich die Untersuchung aufgrund der Fülle des Materials im Wesentlichen auf den nordeuropäischen Raum und vorrangig auf Werke der Malerei, daher werden vor allem Werke aus dem Umfeld des niederländischen Realismus untersucht. Beispiele zeigen, wie die Künstler bei der Darstellung vergangener Geschichten vorgehen, welche Elemente des Bildes für eine Aktualisierung genutzt wurden und welche Funktion diese Strategie hat. Dabei wird als wichtigster Beweggrund für die Aktualisierung der historischen Inhalte herausgearbeitet, dass die Bilder durch die Einbindung in einen aktuellen Kontext dem Erfahrungshorizont des mittelalterlichen Rezipienten angenähert werden und ihm die Einfühlung in das Gemälde erleichtern. eng: The present thesis is concerned with the presentation of historical themes in the late Middle Ages. Within this presentation, various time levels are shown. With the composition of historical themes, the artist has to attempt the purpose of rendering a scene which originates from a different time and living environment. In the late Middle Ages, such scenes, especially when coming from a religious context, are transfered into a setting which gathers motifs from the present of the artist and their contemporaries in different gradations. This thesis analyzes the anachronisms which are formed by this historically incorrent approach, the motivation which form the basis as well as the shapes and characteristics which these anachronisms take on. Based on the issue, the contemporary recipient is an important part of the analysis. The thesis gives an overview of how the saintliness of the late Middle Ages influenced the production of devotional images in the form examinated or else, how the conception of history of the Middle Ages, the knowledge of history and the specific preferences of the people at that time, play a role here. In doing so, the analysis is restricted to North-Europe and primary to paintings, due to the richness of the material. Because of these restrictions and the choice of topic, which focuses on representation of the daily routine, particularly works from the Dutch Realism are examined. On the basis of examples is shown how the artists approach the presentation of old-time stories, which elements of the image are used for an actualization. The most important motivation for the actualization of the historic substance shows that through incorporation into an current context, these images approximated to the horizon of experience of the recipient from the Middle Ages and simplify the empathy for the painting for them - which particularly is an issue when it comes to devotional paintings, which are the majority of the paintings analyzed here.
