    Im Jahr 2015 kam es zu einer Debatte um den kanonischen Rang des Alten Testaments, der ein Echo auch in der kirchlichen Öffentlichkeit und in der Tagespresse fand. Ausgangspunkt war provozierender Aufsatz von Notger Slenczka, in dem er die These vertrat, dass Schleiermacher, Harnack und Bultmann, die eine Herabstufung der kanonischen Bedeutung des Alten Testaments forderten, Recht behalten hätten - freilich aus anderen als den von ihnen vorgetragenen Gründen. Die kanonische Geltung des Alten Testaments liegt darin begründet, dass die Kirche das Alte Testament als Zeugnis für Jesus Christus versteht. Ist dies eine angesichts des christlich-jüdischen Dialogs haltbare Position? Welche hermeneutischen Grundsätze leiten den Umgang der Kirchen mit dem Alten Testament? Wie ändern sie sich angesichts eines historischen Umgangs mit den Texten? Der erste Aufsatz Slenczkas und andere - erläuternde und weiterführende - Texte zu den historischen, hermeneutischen und systematischen Aspekten des Problems sind in diesem Band zusammengestellt. [From the Old Testament and From the New. Contributions to the Reassessment of their Relation] In 2015 a debate arose about the canonical status of the Old Testament which met with a considerable media response. The starting point was the publication of a »provocative« article by Notger Slenczka in which he argued that Schleiermacher, Harnack and Bultmann were right when they demanded the downgrading of the canonical significance of the Old Testament - but for other reasons as they had put forward. This is a serious issue: the canonical status of the Old Testament is due to the fact that the church sees the Old Testament as a testimony for Jesus Christ. But is this position tenable in view of the Christian-Jewish dialogue? What hermeneutic principles guide the church's approach to the Old Testament? How does it change in view of a historical approach to the texts? The article of Slenzka and a series of clarifying and explanatory texts providing further information are included in this volume
