    Das Lexikon der Bibelhermeneutik führt die einschlägigen Grundbegriffe, Methoden, Spezialbegriffe sowie historischen und aktuellen Konzeptionen der Verstehenslehre der Bibel unter dem leitenden Gesichtspunkt einer textbezogenen Hermeneutik zusammen. Theologische Modelle der Bibelhermeneutik werden mit geistes- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Modellen des allgemeinen Textverstehens in einen innovativen Dialog gebracht. Die Artikel werden von Vertretern der beteiligten theologischen Fächer sowie von den entsprechenden sprach- und literaturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen, der Philosophie und den Religionswissenschaften (Judaistik und Islamwissenschaft) erarbeitet. Die so entstehende enzyklopädisch strukturierte Texthermeneutik der Bibel und ihrer Teiltexte versteht die kanonische Fassung der Bibel als Supertext, dessen Teiltexte zu dem kanonischen Textcorpus der "Bibel" zusammengestellt wurden, für das seit der Alten Kirche immer wieder spezielle Verstehenslehren entworfen wurden und dessen Auslegungsgeschichte eine eigene Textkultur bildet, die sich in einem ständigen Austausch mit philologischen, philosophischen und literatur- und sprachwissenschaftlichen Modellen von Hermeneutik und Interpretation befindet The Dictionary of Biblical Hermeneutics brings together concepts relating to the theories, methods and conceptions of Bible interpretations under the central heading of a text-referenced hermeneutics. The resultant textual hermeneutics of the Bible forms a new paradigm which does not regard the Bible primarily as Gospel or Holy Scripture but views it from a textual and literary studies perspective as a "Supratext". The dictionary is targeted at scholars in both theology and cultural studies.The work involves conventional intratheological models of biblical hermeneutics in an innovative dialogue with contemporary models for understanding texts

This study shows that in science language functions in very much the same way as in literature: it is rhetorical in that it persuades readers to the author's point of view, and it is poetical in that with its metaphors and other figures of speech it shapes the experience of author and reader. The separation between science and literature proves to be untenable. This has important ontological implications: science can no longer be considered an action performed by a speaking subject on a mute object. Does the creative role of language in science mean that human beings 'create' the world? The author emphatically rejects a conclusion which would degrade nature to mere malleable material at the mercy of human beings. A hermeneutical model for the relationship between knower and known is suggested: creative interaction between reader and text. The reader's responses actualise a text's meaning; in like manner, scientists give their responses to reality by actualising one of many possibilities. The hermeneutical ontology proposed in this book steers away from the rocks of realism and anti-realism

    The legacy of the Second World War remains unsettled; no consensus has been achieved about its meaning and its lasting impact. This is pre-eminently the case in France, where the experience of defeat and occupation created the grounds for a deeply ambiguous mixture of resistance and collaboration, pride and humiliation, heroism and abjection, which writers and politicians have been trying to disentangle ever since. This book develops a theoretical approach which draws on trauma studies and hermeneutics; and it then focuses on some of the intellectuals who lived through the war and on how their experience and troubled memories of it continue to echo through their later writing, even and especially when it is not the explicit topic. This was an astonishing generation of writers who would go on to play a pivotal role on a global scale in post-war aesthetic and philosophical endeavours. The book proposes close readings of works by some of the most brilliant amongst them: Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus, Charlotte Delbo, Paul Ricoeur, Emmanuel Levinas, Louis Althusser, Jorge Semprun, Elie Wiesel, and Sarah Kofman.

    Main description: The positive revaluation of aesthesis and the emergence of aesthetics in the 18th century - from Bodmer and Breitinger to Baumgarten, Meier and ultimately Herder - established an aesthetic discourse centred on the sensual component of art and literature. In literature, this component is to be found in its visual imagery, its rhythms and also in its appreciation as a meaningful structure. The volume contains studies on Gryphius, Klopstock, Lessing, Wieland, Herder and Schiller. It systematizes the insights gained from these studies to demonstrate how, in the 17th and 18th centuries, aesthetic experience was enriched by a theoretical concern for its sensual aspects and conceptualized in a manner that is of essential importance for approaches to the interpretation of art and for hermeneutics
