The research examines stereotypes connected with male and female gender – specifically the concept of "woman as prey", which is reflected in both German and Czech phraseologisms. Two corpora, each with a different function, were used to validate the claim. The first consisted of phraseological dictionaries, which provided a basis for the excerption of phraseologisms expressing the concept in question. A search for these phraseologisms was subsequently carried out in language corpora (COSMAS II, for German, the Czech National Corpus for Czech).

The study showed that the claim regarding "woman as prey" is only partly supported in the language data. The corpus also includes cases in which women "set out on a hunt" and men "get caught in their nets".

The article explores the expression of the emotion shame in Czech and German idioms. A corpus of relevant idioms was excerpted from the most extensive Czech and German phraseological dictionaries; the idioms were then extracted from corpora of the individual languages and subjected to conceptual analysis. Research of the texts also revealed several situations in which the emotion shame is felt by individuals, e.g. if somebody is caught naked. The analysis showed that in both languages shame is connected with the concept of the colour red and the concept of invisibility. The latter concept is realized in idioms stating that the person wishes to be hidden and unseen, e.g. under the ground, or that the person does not even wish to look at others. Some German idioms also refer to the concept of death, which was not found in the Czech corpus studied here.

Using the example of Beate Teresa Hanika's debut novel 'Rotkäppchen muss weinen', the author demonstrates how the basic emotion of fear is manifested in literature for young people. The article presents both the ways in which this emotion is depicted explicitly and the ways in which it is implicitly thematized on several levels of language. In conclusion, drawing also on a previous study of the manifestation of fear in children’s literature, the author addresses the question of whether there are differences in the expression of fear depending on the age of the producers and/or receivers.

  4. Konzeptualisierung der Emotion Angst in deutschen und tschechischen Phraseologismen The conceptualization of the emotion "fear" in German and Czech phraseology

This article examines the expression and description of fear in German and Czech phraseology. Fear – one of the primary emotions – is viewed in a broad sense. The analysis of this semantic field also includes such variations as anxiety, panic, fright, horror, and terror. As it is impossible to cover the full phraseological range for this semantic field in both languages, the boundaries of the corpus were set with reference to the repertoire of expressions included in selected phraseological dictionaries. The use of these idiomatic expressions in practice was verified with reference to large-scale corpora in the individual languages. The article offers an analysis of the corpus from a cognitive perspective. For each of the languages, the first step was to identify the concepts which are mediated via selected phraseological expressions. The concepts were then compared, revealing similarities and differences between German and Czech in this respect.

This metalexicographic study compares four selected (linguistic) dictionaries. The results will potentially assist teachers in choosing a dictionary for students of German in the early phase of their studies. Selected lemmas are analyzed in a case study from the perspective of linguistic, academic and additional information; these lemmas are taken from the categories of phonetics and phonology, as these disciplines are generally covered first in a German degree programme. The selected dictionaries are also compared in terms of the range of phonetic and phonological concepts covered.
