In my project I examine literary meetings between apes and humans and how concepts of sameness and difference are used in a species discourse. I look at the ways in which literature has often created apes that are possible to dismiss, all in order to stabilize the human identity. But I also detect posthuman reevaluations in recent novels, where the preoccupation with difference is problematized.
