CFP: Second International Workshop of the Goethe-Lexicon of Philosophical Concepts (G-LPC)
Cambridge, 10-11 July 2020

We invite contributions to the Second International Workshop of the Goethe-Lexicon of Philosophical Concepts (G-LPC), a collaborative research initiative investigating the central role played by concepts and their reinvention in Goethe’s development as a heterodox thinker. The lexicon is an online, open-access research tool that seeks to make Goethe available beyond the German-speaking world to a global readership and to offer a resource for scholars outside German Studies, enabling them to connect their work to a thinker who, until recently, remained largely unacknowledged for his philosophical interests and achievements. A beta-version of the lexicon is currently available with a few sample entries at the following URL: https://dev.goethe-lexicon.pitt.edu/GL/issue/view/1.  Two instalments with approximately 25 entries are scheduled for publication in 2020.

The workshop will take place at the University of Cambridge, UK, from 10-11 July 2020. Its purpose will be to discuss drafts of future entries to the lexicon. Rooms will be available at Murray Edwards College. Participants will be expected to cover the costs of their travel and lodging (£75/night for a single room, £115/night for a double). All meals will be provided.

We are especially interested in submissions on concepts from the list below.

Please submit your proposals of 300-500 words no later than March 2, 2020, to Clark Muenzer (muenzer@pitt.edu), John H. Smith (jhsmith@uci.edu), and Charlotte Lee (cll38@cam.ac.uk).

Completed papers should be between 2500 and 4000 words. They must be submitted by May 30, 2020. The workshop will be limited to 20-25 participants. Some participants will be invited to offer brief commentaries on entries.

Submissions that cannot be accepted due to space limitations will still be considered as future lexicon entries.
