Wie werden aus ganz normalen jungen Männern Massenmörder? Warum töten ehrbare Familienväter Tag für Tag, jahrelang, Frauen, Kinder und Babys? Warum verweigerten so wenige den Befehl, obwohl es ihnen freigestellt war? Das radikal Böse beschäftigt sich in einer stilistisch innovativen Herangehensweise mit den systematischen Erschießungen jüdischer Zivilisten durch deutsche Einsatzgruppen in Osteuropa und der Suche nach den Ursachen des Bösen. Wie hören die Gedanken der Täter aus Briefen, Tagebuchaufzeichnungen und Gerichtsprotokollen, sehen in junge Gesichter, Projektionsflächen für Assoziationen und Erkenntnisse. Ergänzt mit historischen Aufnahmen, den Aussagen renommierter Forscher, wie Père Desbois, Christopher Browning oder Robert Jay Lifton, und den überraschen Ergebnissen psychologischer Experimente führt der Film hin zu "dem radikal Bösen", einer Blaupause des Genozid.

La grande diversité des délimitations, dénominations, leçons, interprétations, que l'on ne peut en aucune manière considérer comme une progressive venue au jour de la véritable forme d'un texte, engage à contester l'économie de la textualité, à faire voir comment la série des éditions et des commentaires produit, dans un mouvement de répétitions, ce qu'elle représente comme sa propre origine, et institue ains ce qu'elle désigne comme un texte et un auteur This study shows how four manuscript pages happened to become through the ages what is nowadays most usually known as the "Pari de Pascal" ("Pascal's wager"), one of the famous pieces of the so called "Pensées de Pascal". A critical analysis of publication editing procedures and commentary circulation demonstrates that they were established and perpetuated as a text by a tradition through many operations of transcription which greatly reduce their supposed authenticity. As we explore the wide range of delimitations, denominations, philological lectures, and interpretations, which these pages underwent and which can in no way be considered as a progressive bringing to light of the text true form, we are led to contest the economy of textuality, and to show how the series of publications and commentaries produces, in a process of repetitions, the very object that it depicts as its own origin, and how this series constructs and institutes what it represents as a text and an author

    Cette thèse, conçue comme un voyage à travers l’œuvre de D.H. Lawrence, se propose de montrer la place des années « mexicaines » (celles passées au Nouveau-Mexique et au Mexique entre septembre 1922 et septembre 1925) dans le parcours de création de l’écrivain. En effet, les voyages et la dynamique de la quête informent la production artistique de Lawrence, qui, toute sa vie, n’a cessé de chercher le territoire idéal où une humanité régénérée pourrait, en contact avec le cosmos, échapper aux maux de l’ère industrielle et retrouver une relation authentique à l’autre. L’étape mexicaine a été particulièrement importante dans le parcours de sa pensée et de son écriture. Les civilisations indiennes d’Amérique, qui ont un autre mode de vie, une autre conception du temps et du rapport à la communauté et au divin, fascinent le créateur. Les rencontres et les expériences inédites de Lawrence en terres mexicaines stimulent son imagination et suscitent la production de nombreux textes, souvent déroutants. Pour en montrer l’originalité et la pertinence, ce travail les met en regard de trois autres types de sources : le reste de l’œuvre lawrencienne, antérieure et postérieure à la période mexicaine, les textes d’autres écrivains britanniques qui ont voyagé au Mexique, et les écrits d’auteurs mexicains. Grâce aux multiples voix et devenirs-autre qu’ils laissent s’exprimer, grâce aux diverses interprétations qu’ils permettent, les textes lawrenciens nous font voyager, au-delà des terres mexicaines, vers un autre univers, celui de tous les possibles, qui n’a de frontières que celles, ouvertes et mouvantes, de la création, voyage artistique et spirituel This dissertation has been conceived as a way of travelling throughout D.H. Lawrence’s works and it tries to demonstrate the importance of the “Mexican” years (those spent in New Mexico and Mexico between September 1922 and September 1925) in the process of their creation. Indeed, Lawrence’s writings were shaped by the dynamics of his quest and his travelling around the world. All his life, he has been looking for the ideal place where regenerated human beings, in contact with the cosmos, could escape from the evils of the industrial age and rediscover an authentic relationship with the other. The Mexican period played a significant part in the evolution of Lawrence’s thinking and writing. Indians civilisations in America favour another way of life, another conception of time and of the relationship with the community and the divine, all of which fascinated the artist. The people he met and the things he experienced in Mexican lands stimulated his imagination and inspired many rather disconcerting texts. In order to show how original and relevant they are, this study compares them with three types of sources: the rest of Lawrence’s work – before and after the Mexican years –, other texts by British writers who also travelled to Mexico, and books by Mexican authors. Lawrence’s writing, which leaves a space to the expression of otherness and allows various interpretations, has the readers eventually travel further than the Mexican lands. It brings them towards another world where everything is possible, since its only borders are the shifting, open lines of creation – an artistic and spiritual journey

    Tous les éléments, textuels et visuels, de DDD de Paul Valéry participent à une mise en scène de l'instabilité, déjouant les attentes du lecteur. Pour ce faire Valéry fait usage d'une rhétorique, souvent classique, qui sait s'adjoindre les ressources du figural. Confronté à leurs effets, le lecteur doit accepter la déroute comme principe de lecture. Cet effet d'égarement est renforcé par une matière textuelle et visuelle dynamique. DDD, échappant à la clôture et à l'inertie, exige une perpétuelle circulation du regard. Des temporalités coexistent. La capacité de transformation de DDD suscite une interrogation sur la ligne mimique, en relation avec la "formule pathique" warburgienne. Altérant la figure humaine, la mimique entraîne une réflexion sur l'informe, dont Degas et Valéry jouent selon les moyens de leur art Degas, Danse, Dessin by Paul Valéry can't fail to surprise the reader : all the elemnts, both textual and visual, actually take part in a production of instability. That is why everything works towards presenting a text which is very far from the most conventional formal and hermeneutic expectations. Valéry is writing here for the reader to choose his own rhythm, even if i/he is subtly led according to the author's design. The taste of polymorphism -structural, narrative but also using the text-picture relations- is quite effective. to rich is aim, Valéry sets up a singular rhetoric, knowing how to take advantage of the material means of the book, confirming its suspensive function. The ressources of the figural, bursting in the order of the discourse, have to be associated with the rhetorical means. Between rhetoric and figural, the reader has to accept to be disconcerted. Moreover, some formal flexibility - structural, thematic and metaphorical - holds one's attention : the animal reference, for instance, conveys the energy of the movement, embodied by the figure of a dancer. DDD favours a visual reading, like a polyptych. The look has to circulate, letting different coexisting temporalities, which give to the form a real power of transformation. The latter conveys a questionning about the virtues of gesture. From the "gesture line" of Degas as the "movement of life found in the Greeks time" to the pathic formula, after the warburgian terminology, a relation of closeness has to be considered. Distorting the human figure, the gesture leads to a reflexion on the undefined, interval between two forms, that Degas and Valéry use according to the means of their art

    On considère souvent que la modernité poétique se caractérise par une tension vers le silence, l’effacement, la fragmentation. Or certains poètes français de la seconde moitié du XXe s. revendiquent explicitement le désir et le droit d’une confrontation au grand Tout, dans des œuvres élaborant, selon un héritage romantique, diverses stratégies de totalisation poétique : ainsi, en particulier, d’André Frénaud, Patrice de La Tour du Pin et Pierre Emmanuel. Sous cet apparent anachronisme de leurs œuvres se laisse en réalité lire une tension, où s’exprime la dualité sémantique de la notion de totalité – entre intensivité et extensivité : le Livre total prétend-il au pouvoir de ramener le multiple à un Tout homogène, ou s’ouvre-t-il à tout sans nier l’infini ? La rupture instaurée par la Seconde Guerre mondiale exacerbe cette incertitude : elle jette en effet le doute sur l’ambition de totalité qui, dans sa dimension intensive, court un risque d’ordre totalitaire – celui de la parole définitive qui nie le reste du monde. Loin de rester aveugle à un tel risque, les trois poètes en question l’exposent : la tentation du tout se trouve limitée par la singularité irréductible des êtres et des choses. Subissant alors une détotalisation due à la crise axiologique d’une posture énonciative compromise, les œuvres acceptent la blessure de l’altérité qui les fragmente. Parce qu’elle fonde sur une éthique de la relation la possibilité de jouer librement le jeu de la multiplicité extensive, la poésie réinvente son droit, sans doute précaire, à se développer comme dynamique de totalisation : l’œuvre existe dès lors pour aboutir au monde Poetic modernity is often said to be typified by its inclination towards silence, self-effacement, and fragmentation. Yet some poets belonging with the second half of the XXth century explicitly claim their desire and their right to confront the Great Totality. They do so in works that elaborate various strategies of poetic totalization in keeping with a Romantic tradition : that is particularly the case of André Frénaud, Patrice de La Tour du Pin and Pierre Emmanuel. In spite of their apparent anachronism, their works actually imply a tension that expresses the semantic dualism of the notion of totality, between intension (wholeness) and extension (allness) : does the whole-inclusive and self-contained Book ambition the fusing of multiplicity into a homogeneous whole, or does it open up to every thing without denying the infinite ? The breaking off induced by World War II enhances this problem, questioning the ambition of intensive totality and its inner risk of totalitarianism : that of the final Word which denies the rest of the world. Far from being blind to that risk, the three poets we study exhibit it. The temptation of totality is consequently checked by the irreducible singularity of beings and things. Undergoing a de-totalization caused by the axiological crisis of a compromised enunciatory posture, the works willingly suffer the injury of otherness that fragments them. Poetry is able to play the game of an extensive multiplicity : this capacity being grounded on an ethic of relationships, it thus reinvents its right to develop according to a totalizing dynamics. Therefore, the work exist by virtue of its issuing into the world

    The development of identity and the process of self-possession is at the heart of Charlotte and Emily Brontë's writing. In Jane Eyre, Villette, Wuthering Heights and Emily Brontë's poetry, the reader follows the characters and personae (who are essentially female) through the life-voyage which brings them to get to know themselves, find their place in the world, inscribe themselves in it and transmit a vision of their interiority. The process of interiorisation consists in four phases. The first phase is about perception. The subjects discover the world and learn from this contact the necessity of searching for, and even recreating, the sense of belonging in order to gain happiness. Disappointed in the world, they withdraw into themselves, and the phase of feeling starts. The subjects shift from perception to intellection, shape their mental patterns, and try to recreate within themselves, virtually, the conditions of happiness. Imagination plays a major part in this process, but eventually, the inner shelter becomes a prison through the pathological expansion of interiority and the lack of reality. The third phase then begins, revolving around the idea of expression. The subjects, through speech, writing or painting, find ways to let out as much as frame their interiority. The result of their exteriorisation brings about the fourth phase, that of reception, during which intimate and competent readers carry on the process of the construction of identity Au cœur de l'écriture de Charlotte et Emily Brontë se trouve la question de la formation de l'identité et du saisissement de soi par le sujet (essentiellement féminin). Dans Jane Eyre, Villette, Wuthering Heights et la poésie d'Emily Brontë, le lecteur suit personnages principaux et personae tout au long d'un parcours qui les amène à prendre possession d'eux-mêmes, à trouver leur place dans le monde, à s'y inscrire et à pouvoir transmettre une vision de leur intériorité. Le processus d'intériorisation comprend quatre phases. La première s'organise autour de la perception. Les sujets découvrent le monde et apprennent à son contact la nécessité de rechercher, voire de créer la sensation d'appartenance pour atteindre le bonheur. Déçus par le monde, ils se replient alors sur eux-mêmes, et commence alors la phase de ressenti. Les sujets passent de la perception à l'intellection, forment leurs schémas mentaux, et tentent de recréer en eux-mêmes, virtuellement, les conditions du bonheur. L'imagination joue un rôle majeur dans cette entreprise, mais à terme, le refuge intérieur devient un enfermement, par l'expansion pathologique de l'intériorité et le manque de réel. Les sujets ressentent alors l'impérieuse nécessité d'extérioriser. La troisième phase s'amorce donc autour des problématiques d'expression. Les sujets, à travers la prise de parole, l'écriture et la pratique picturale, trouvent des canaux pour épancher leur intériorité autant que pour la mettre en forme. Le résultat de leur extériorisation donne lieu à la quatrième phase, celle du reçu, au cours de laquelle les lecteurs intimes et performants continuent l'entreprise de construction de l'identité
