    La thèse analyse l'œuvre de Cioran (1911-1995) et ses rapports avec l'espace littéraire et culturel anglo-américain de la perspective de la littérature comparée et de la po(ï)étique. La première partie présente les principales catégories des matériaux anglo-américains, les raisons qui déterminent leur élection et leur convocation dans l'espace de création cioranien. Après l'étude des enjeux de la lecture, le geste fondamental de collection des matériaux, nous nous intéressons à la manière dont l'auteur emploie ses notes de lecture (de Shakespeare, des poètes romantiques, de Swift, Wilde, Emily Dickinson, Emily Brontë, de Beckett et Fitzgerald) dans la création de ses textes. Nous interrogerons les Cahiers et une partie des manuscrits afin de découvrir les principales coordonnées qui régissent l'état de préparation de l'œuvre. Les diverses transformations des matériaux anglo-américains et leurs formes de combinaison seront examinées en fonction de deux gestes fondamentaux : le bricolage (la traduction) et le collage-assemblage (l'épigraphe, la citation, la reprise et la référence). La dernière partie explore les divers parcours des matériaux anglo-américains dans l'œuvre et la spécificité de l'écriture aphoristique, la recherche de la formule d'écriture se transformant en une recherche d'une formule de soi. Le moi « à fragments » serait pour Cioran un moi à formules anglo-américaines, l'identité se construisant dans les moments de contact entre les textes et l'ego scriptor. L'intertextualité apparaît comme une forme d'impersonnalisation créatrice, l'identité altérée étant investiguée en trois temps : « se vouloir l'autre », « devenir l'autre » et « dépasser l'autre » The thesis analyzes the work of Cioran (1911-1995) and its relationship with the Anglo-American literary and cultural space from the perspective of the comparative literature and of the po(ï)etics. The first part presents the main categories of Anglo-American materials, the reasons which determine their election and their convocation in the space of creation. After the study of the importance of reading, the fundamental gesture of collection of materials, we are interested in the way in which the author employs his reading notes (of Shakespeare, of the romantic poets, of Swift, Wilde, Emily Dickinson, Emily Brontë, of Beckett or Fitzgerald) in the creation of his texts. We will question the Cahiers and a part of manuscripts in order to discover the main coordinates which govern the state of preparation of the work. The various transformations of the Anglo-American materials and their forms of combination will be examined according to two fundamental gestures: the bricolage (the translation) and the collage-assemblage (the epigraph, the quotation, the repetition and the reference). The last part explores the different itineraries of the Anglo-American materials in the work and the specificity of the aphoristic writing, the search of the formula of writing becoming a quest of a formula of the self. The "fragmented self" would be for Cioran a "self of Anglo-American formulae", the identity being built in the moments of contact between the texts and the ego scriptor. The intertextuality seems a form of creative impersonnalisation, the altered identity being investigated at three levels: "to want to be the other one", "to become the other one" and "to exceed the other one

La grande diversité des délimitations, dénominations, leçons, interprétations, que l'on ne peut en aucune manière considérer comme une progressive venue au jour de la véritable forme d'un texte, engage à contester l'économie de la textualité, à faire voir comment la série des éditions et des commentaires produit, dans un mouvement de répétitions, ce qu'elle représente comme sa propre origine, et institue ains ce qu'elle désigne comme un texte et un auteur This study shows how four manuscript pages happened to become through the ages what is nowadays most usually known as the "Pari de Pascal" ("Pascal's wager"), one of the famous pieces of the so called "Pensées de Pascal". A critical analysis of publication editing procedures and commentary circulation demonstrates that they were established and perpetuated as a text by a tradition through many operations of transcription which greatly reduce their supposed authenticity. As we explore the wide range of delimitations, denominations, philological lectures, and interpretations, which these pages underwent and which can in no way be considered as a progressive bringing to light of the text true form, we are led to contest the economy of textuality, and to show how the series of publications and commentaries produces, in a process of repetitions, the very object that it depicts as its own origin, and how this series constructs and institutes what it represents as a text and an author

    Dans les contes et nouvelles fantastiques de Théophile Gautier, la féminité, sublime et ineffable, insaisissable et mystérieuse, ordonne et interroge, par ses apparitions et disparitions, par ses convulsions poétiques, la fiction et l'écriture. Entre héritage et modernité, infiniment présente et absolument absente, elle éprouve la représentation artistique et se fait le point de rosée où l'œuvre fantastique, véritablement, se crée. Explorant les médiums artistiques contemporains dans une dynamique paradoxale, où sont donnés, dans leurs représentations mêmes, leur effacement et leur dépassement, l'écriture surgit de cette poétique féminine, dans un dire impossible et pourtant là. Ainsi la poétique de l'œuvre fantastique de Gautier entérine la fêlure et le manque, afin de faire de la femme et de sa représentation, l'indicible, si ce n'est l'indécidable, tension motrice de l'écriture. Sondant le langage jusqu'au silence, elle compose alors avec cette impossibilité et cette incomplétude essentielles ; substances créatrices qui la conduisent parfois aux confins d'une modernité, encore voilée mais latente In Théophile Gautier's fantastic tales and short stories, femininity, sublime and indescribable, mysterious and unfathomable, orders and questions fiction and writing through its poetical convulsions, its appearances and disappearances. Hovering somewhere between inheritance and modernity, infinitely pervasive and altogether missing at the same time, femininity is somehow the touchstone of artistic representation and becomes the source out of which the fantastic work truly springs into life. By exploring contemporary artistic media along paradoxical guidelines within the representations of which erasure and transcendence are already encoded, the writing stems from that feminine poetics, in an impossible - yet vividly present - utterance. Thus, the poetics of Gautier's fantastic work subsumes the split and the lack so as to turn both woman and her representation into the unspeakable - perhaps even undecidable - ongoing motion of the writing process. Probing language until its very limit, silence, Gautier's poetics therefore integrates this fundamental impossibility and incompleteness - the nourishing substance that sometimes takes it to the borderline of a modernity which is concealed but is definitely underlying in his work

    Le présent travail porte sur un corpus de textes relatant un conflit fondamental aux yeux des médiévaux : la Guerre de Troie. La cité antique était en effet considérée comme le berceau des civilisations occidentales. À partir de l'adaptation en roman par Benoît de Sainte-Maure au XIIe siècle de deux récits médio-latins, la matière troyenne a pu gagner les terres d'Empire, où les récits de Troie en vers, dérivés directement ou indirectement du roman français, ont été transmis du XIIe au XVe siècle. La guerre, sujet peu attrayant aujourd'hui quand il se présente, pour l'essentiel, comme c'est le cas dans ces textes, sous la forme d'une alternance de combats singuliers et de mêlées narrés sur des milliers de vers, semblait au contraire séduire le public médiéval. Nous avons donc étudié la place de la guerre et la façon dont elle était représentée dans les récits de Troie afin de déterminer ce qui faisait la richesse et ainsi la fortune de ce thème au Moyen Âge The present work deals with a corpus of texts that relate a crucial conflict in the eyes of Middles Ages populations, namely the Trojan war - the ancient city of Troy being regarded as the cradle of Western civilisations. From the adaptation into french of two medieval-latin narratives by Benoît de Ste-Maure in the XIIth century, the Trojan motive spread to the territories of the Empire where the verse narratives about Troy, directly or indirectly derived from the French Romance, where transmitted between the XIIth and XVth centuries. The war, hardly an attractive topic today when it is mostly presented, as is the case in these texts, as an alternation of one-to-one combats and mêlées narrated over thousands lines, seemed in those days, on the contrary, to appeal to the medieval public. So we have studied the significance and the representation of the war in the Trojan narratives in order to work out what made the merits and therefore the success of that motive in the Middle Ages

    La généalogie du poème en prose, genre né au 19e siècle, a été explorée du côté de la prose poétique des 17e et 18e siècle et de celui des "inventeurs" du genre pendant la première partie du 19e siècle. Nous nous proposons d'y ajouter une dimension en recherchant des origines journalistiques au genre que Baudelaire réinvente dans le Spleen de Paris : centrés sur le présent, ses petits poèmes en prose livrent une "description de la vie moderne". Ce faisant, Baudelaire rencontre les visées de la presse de son temps, plus particulièrement celles de la petite presse, qui se charge de cette peinture de manière légère et satirique. Il croise également les mouvements littéraires que sont le réalisme, la fantaisie et la bohème. Une première section décrit le phénomène de la petite presse, propre au paysage médiatique du 19e siècle, en fait ressortir les acteurs et met en relief la place qu'y occupe Baudelaire. La seconde section s'attache à l'étude d'un corpus de poèmes en prose parus dans la presse entre 1845 et 1865 afin de cerner les tendances qui s 'en dégagent, avant de mettre en place l'origine journalistique de la notion de modernité, en pleine élaboration. La troisième section étudie les genres journalistiques et leurs thèmes de prédilection, pour les croiser avec la prose poétique de Baudelaire. La dernière section propose une redéfinition de la formule baudelairienne du poème en prose, centrée sur sa dimension caricaturale et "blagueuse", selon une terminologie empruntée à la petite presse The genealogy of prose poem has already been studied : origins have been found in the poetic prose of the 17th and 18th centuries, and the "inventors" of the genre in early 19th century have also been explored. My work wants to add a point to this genealogy, showing that prose poem can have journalistic origins. In the Spleen de Paris, Baudelaire re-creates the prose poem : he focuses in on the present, having in view to give a "description of modern life". Thus, he meets the designs of his time's press, more specifically of the "petite presse" ones, which delivers a painting of modern life in a satirical way. He also crosses the literary movements of realism, "bohème" and "fantaisie". First, I have studied the "petite presse", which is a specific phenomenon of the 19th century mediatic landscape. I have pointed out its protagonists and also Baudelaire's place in it. The second part analyses prose poems published in papers between 1845 and 1865, and underlines the idea that the notion of modernity has a journalistic origin. The third part examines the journalistic genres and their topics, to confront them with Baudelaire's prose poetry. Finally, I prropose a new definition of baudelairian prose poem, which emphasizes its caricatural manner

    Tous les éléments, textuels et visuels, de DDD de Paul Valéry participent à une mise en scène de l'instabilité, déjouant les attentes du lecteur. Pour ce faire Valéry fait usage d'une rhétorique, souvent classique, qui sait s'adjoindre les ressources du figural. Confronté à leurs effets, le lecteur doit accepter la déroute comme principe de lecture. Cet effet d'égarement est renforcé par une matière textuelle et visuelle dynamique. DDD, échappant à la clôture et à l'inertie, exige une perpétuelle circulation du regard. Des temporalités coexistent. La capacité de transformation de DDD suscite une interrogation sur la ligne mimique, en relation avec la "formule pathique" warburgienne. Altérant la figure humaine, la mimique entraîne une réflexion sur l'informe, dont Degas et Valéry jouent selon les moyens de leur art Degas, Danse, Dessin by Paul Valéry can't fail to surprise the reader : all the elemnts, both textual and visual, actually take part in a production of instability. That is why everything works towards presenting a text which is very far from the most conventional formal and hermeneutic expectations. Valéry is writing here for the reader to choose his own rhythm, even if i/he is subtly led according to the author's design. The taste of polymorphism -structural, narrative but also using the text-picture relations- is quite effective. to rich is aim, Valéry sets up a singular rhetoric, knowing how to take advantage of the material means of the book, confirming its suspensive function. The ressources of the figural, bursting in the order of the discourse, have to be associated with the rhetorical means. Between rhetoric and figural, the reader has to accept to be disconcerted. Moreover, some formal flexibility - structural, thematic and metaphorical - holds one's attention : the animal reference, for instance, conveys the energy of the movement, embodied by the figure of a dancer. DDD favours a visual reading, like a polyptych. The look has to circulate, letting different coexisting temporalities, which give to the form a real power of transformation. The latter conveys a questionning about the virtues of gesture. From the "gesture line" of Degas as the "movement of life found in the Greeks time" to the pathic formula, after the warburgian terminology, a relation of closeness has to be considered. Distorting the human figure, the gesture leads to a reflexion on the undefined, interval between two forms, that Degas and Valéry use according to the means of their art
