    Par l'analyse critique des procédures d'établissement des éditions, et de circulation des commentaires, cette étude montre comment au fil du temps, à partir de quatre pages manuscrites dont la transcription, pourtant, oblige à des interventions qui réduisent à peu sa prétendue authenticité, une tradition a pu mettre en place et perpétuer ce que l'on désigne aujourd'hui le plus ordinairement du nom vague de "Pari de Pascal". La grande diversité des délimitations, dénominations, leçons, interprétations, que l'on ne peut en aucune manière considérer comme une progressive venue au jour de la véritable forme d'un texte, engage à contester l'économie de la textualité, à faire voir comment la série des éditions et des commentaires produit, dans un mouvement de répétitions, ce qu'elle représente comme sa propre origine, et institue ains ce qu'elle désigne comme un texte et un auteur This study shows how four manuscript pages happened to become through the ages what is nowadays most usually known as the "Pari de Pascal" ("Pascal's wager"), one of the famous pieces of the so called "Pensées de Pascal". A critical analysis of publication editing procedures and commentary circulation demonstrates that they were established and perpetuated as a text by a tradition through many operations of transcription which greatly reduce their supposed authenticity. As we explore the wide range of delimitations, denominations, philological lectures, and interpretations, which these pages underwent and which can in no way be considered as a progressive bringing to light of the text true form, we are led to contest the economy of textuality, and to show how the series of publications and commentaries produces, in a process of repetitions, the very object that it depicts as its own origin, and how this series constructs and institutes what it represents as a text and an author

    Tous les éléments, textuels et visuels, de DDD de Paul Valéry participent à une mise en scène de l'instabilité, déjouant les attentes du lecteur. Pour ce faire Valéry fait usage d'une rhétorique, souvent classique, qui sait s'adjoindre les ressources du figural. Confronté à leurs effets, le lecteur doit accepter la déroute comme principe de lecture. Cet effet d'égarement est renforcé par une matière textuelle et visuelle dynamique. DDD, échappant à la clôture et à l'inertie, exige une perpétuelle circulation du regard. Des temporalités coexistent. La capacité de transformation de DDD suscite une interrogation sur la ligne mimique, en relation avec la "formule pathique" warburgienne. Altérant la figure humaine, la mimique entraîne une réflexion sur l'informe, dont Degas et Valéry jouent selon les moyens de leur art Degas, Danse, Dessin by Paul Valéry can't fail to surprise the reader : all the elemnts, both textual and visual, actually take part in a production of instability. That is why everything works towards presenting a text which is very far from the most conventional formal and hermeneutic expectations. Valéry is writing here for the reader to choose his own rhythm, even if i/he is subtly led according to the author's design. The taste of polymorphism -structural, narrative but also using the text-picture relations- is quite effective. to rich is aim, Valéry sets up a singular rhetoric, knowing how to take advantage of the material means of the book, confirming its suspensive function. The ressources of the figural, bursting in the order of the discourse, have to be associated with the rhetorical means. Between rhetoric and figural, the reader has to accept to be disconcerted. Moreover, some formal flexibility - structural, thematic and metaphorical - holds one's attention : the animal reference, for instance, conveys the energy of the movement, embodied by the figure of a dancer. DDD favours a visual reading, like a polyptych. The look has to circulate, letting different coexisting temporalities, which give to the form a real power of transformation. The latter conveys a questionning about the virtues of gesture. From the "gesture line" of Degas as the "movement of life found in the Greeks time" to the pathic formula, after the warburgian terminology, a relation of closeness has to be considered. Distorting the human figure, the gesture leads to a reflexion on the undefined, interval between two forms, that Degas and Valéry use according to the means of their art

    Notre parcours d'étrangère en France nous a d'abord incitée à suivre certains écrivains, tels Nancy Huston, Louis Wolfson, Andreï Makine, qui ont écrit dans une autre langue que la leur. Par un exil subi ou choisi, ces auteurs se sont éloignés de leur langue maternelle, pour s'exprimer en français. Ils ont évolué entre deux langues. Dès lors, de quelle langue pouvaient-ils dire qu'elle leur était propre ? Pour eux, à partir de quel moment la langue étrangère a-t-elle cessé de l'être ? De façon plus générale, que reste-t-il d'un auteur quand il s'est fait à la langue de l'autre ? Ces questions trouvent une illustration dans le destin de Milan Kundera, dont la vie et l'oeuvre ont été façonnées par l'épreuve du changement de langue. En 1975, il quitte la Tchécoslovaquie pour s'installer en France. Dans ses écrits, où affleure l'Histoire, le français remplace peu à peu le tchèque. Dans quelle mesure ce changement a-t-il altéré le déroulement de sa vie et de sa pensée ? Quel rôle l'exil a-t-il joué dans son oeuvre et dans sa renommée ? Pour répondre à ces questions, nous avons étudié ses articles, ses pièces de théâtre, ses romans ainsi que l'accueil qui leur a été fait en France et à l'étranger As a foreigner living in France, we were initially encouraged to study writers such as Nancy Huston, Louis Wolfson, Andreï Makine, who wrote in a language different from their own. In exile, these authors have quit their mother tongue, to speak in French. They evolved between two languages. Therefore, what language could be considered as their own? For them, when did French cease to be a foreign language? More generally, what remains of an author who has chosen to express himself in another language? These questions are illustrated by the biography of Milan Kundera, whose life and work have been shaped by the language change. In 1975 he left Czechoslovakia and settled in France. In his writings, in which we can feel the strength of History, the French gradually replaces Czech. To what extent did this change alter the course of his life and thoughts? What role did the exile play in his work and fame? To answer these questions, we studied his articles, plays, novels and the reception that was done to them in France and abroad

    Cette thèse analyse la relation entre la littérature et le cinéma, en particulier le scénario de cinéma, auquel nous tenterons d'accorder une plus grande visibilité au sein de la Littérature Comparée. Il s'agit de démontrer que le scénario est un genre naturellement intermédiatique, étant donné l'évocation, par le texte verbal, du média cinématographique. Il s'agit également d'examiner les expériences d'hybridation et de transgression, notamment dans le mélange entre roman et scénario, en s'appuyant sur l'étude de l'intergénéricité, ce qui devra permettre d'attribuer aux "scénarios littéraires" le statut de genre littéraire. Pour cela, nous étudions l'expérience de l'écriture et de publication de scénarios réalisée par les écrivains-cinéastes Marguerite Duras et Alain Robbe-Grillet à partir de la seconde moitié des années 1950. L'analyse des oeuvres de ces auteurs nous permet aussi de mettre en évidence les références à d 'autres médias tels que la musique et le théâtre et d 'approfondir la réflexion sur le rôle du script dans le dialogue entre la littérature et les arts. Pour soutenir notre recherche nous utilisons plusieurs théories comme celles de Dominique Combe, sur les genres littéraires, Irina Rajewsky, sur l'intermédialité, Alain et Odette Virmaux, sur le ciné-roman. Cette thèse contient, en annexe, un résumé étendu, de 60 pages, rédigé en français This thesis analyzes the text which provides the basis for most cinematic works: the screenplay. My aim is to increase the visibility of this genre in the field of Comparative Literature given the relative lack of attention it has received in literary and film studies. I intend to demonstrate that the script is naturally an intermedial genre, because it promotes numerous "intermedial references" when it uses the filmic language, which anticipates, in the reader's mind, images that he will experience as a spectator - when the movie is screened. Additionally, I intend to examine the possibilities of exchange between the script and various literary forms, such as the poem and the novel, in a dialogue that is not only intermedial but also intergeneric. In order to achieve this aim, I shall focus on the hybridization experiments, particularly of novel and screenplay, made from 1959 to 2002 by the writers and filmmakers Alain Robbe-Grillet and Marguerite Duras. Such works should be highlighted in this study because they present, besides some intergeneric peculiarities, a remarkable diversity in their intermedial references that go beyond the film and also evoke ostensibly the fields of theater, music, and painting.     Cette thèse est composée de trois grandes parties. La première contient la caractéristique du Livre d'Esther en tant qu'un texte biblique et littéraire à la fois. Ceci est associé à la description du processus de la fabrication des rouleaux liturgiques ainsi que de la représentation des coutumes accompagnant la fête des Pourim pour laquelle le Livre d'Esther est une base religieuse. La deuxième partie contient la description d'évolution des décorations et des illustrations dans les rouleaux d'Esther (en hébreu meguillat Ester) présentée dans le contexte de l'art paneuropéen et en comparaison avec des exemples choisis d'art juif dès la moitié du XVIe siècle à la deuxième moitié du XVIIe siècle. Quant à la dernière partie de cette thèse, nous y présentons la caractéristique du corpus des dix-sept exemples de rouleaux nommés 'de type Gaster' (abgrégé GI), des rouleaux 'de type Klagsbald' (abrégé K) et de trois rouleaux s'inspirant de ces deux types. Dans les rouleaux de type GI et K la technique de la gravure (pour les bordures) et le texte écrit à la main ont été mis en oeuvre. Le modèle gravé sur le parchemin a été toujours le même parce que les décorations et les illustrations de ces rouleaux ont été faites à partir du même ensemble des plaques de cuivre. Nous y commentons la manière de leur production, les matériaux employés, l'écriture, les illustrations et les décorations y présentes et nous essayons de proposer leur datation et leur lieu d'origine The dissertation consists of three main parts: the characterization of the Book of Esther as a biblical and literary text, combined with the description of the preparation of the scrolls for the synagogue use and the presentation of some practices acompanying the feast of Purim for which the Book of Esther is the religious justification; the description of the development of the decorations and illustrations in the scrolls of Esther (Hebrew megilloth Esther) starting from the 2nd half of the 16th century (when they began to appear until the 2nd half of the 17th century, with the background of the European-wide art, as well as the selected examples of jewish art; the characterization of the corpus od seventeen so-called Gaster I (GI) and Klagsbald (K) scrolls and three scrolls derived from them. All scrolls in the types GI and K were made in the seventeenth-century Italy in the following way: decorative borders were printed on parchment and later painted, and the hebrew text of the Book of Esther was written by hand. Decorations in those megilloth include illustrations, repetitive floral and interlaced patterns and elaborate decorations at the beginning and the end of the scrolls. The illustrations contain as many as 36 narrative scenes enclosed in 20 frames. The dissertation includes the most accurate possible description of each of the scrolls (supplemented by photographs), as well as the expanded characterization of the corpus of these manuscripts, including the way they were produced, materials, decorations and illustrations, script and some new suggestions concerning the date and place of their origin

    Comme son titre l'indique, ce travail porte sur l'ironie et l'absurde dans le récit bref de Augusto Monterroso, Juan José Arreola et Julio Cortázar. Le corpus sur lequel nous nous sommes basés se compose de « La Oveja negra y demás fábulas » de Monterroso, « Bestiario » de Arreola (précisément les deux parties intitulées "Prosodia" et "Cantos de mal dolor") et « Historias de cronopios y de famas » de Cortázar. Cette étude contient trois parties : la première porte sur les formes brèves (comme la greguería et le poème en prose) et le récit bref hispano-américain (les précurseurs et les caractéristiques). La deuxième commence par la définition de l'ironie, suivie d'une analyse de ce concept dans le récit bref de chacun des trois auteurs cités plus haut.     Cette étude met en évidence que les traits du manifeste littéraire, genre étroitement associé à la période des avant-gardes, sont intégrés dans trois romans français contemporains : Le Caoutchouc décidément (1992) d'Éric Chevillard, Tout-monde (1993) d'Edouard Glissant et Le Post-exotisme en dix leçons, leçon onze (1998) d'Antoine Volodine. Nous cherchons à comprendre ce que l'usage de ces traits révèle de la manière dont les écrivains inscrivent leurs œuvres dans le champ littéraire et si les romans offrent une continuité au genre dans le temps présent. À travers une approche pragmatique, nous déterminons les macro-actes de langage qui définissent le discours manifestaire et accordons une place dominante à la proclamation d'une nouvelle esthétique. Pour évaluer la portée de ces macro-actes de langage dans les romans étudiés, il est nécessaire de prendre en compte l'ethos auctorial, révélateur de la position de l'écrivain. Les analyses font ressortir que les mondes fîctionnels consolident les convictions esthétiques que les écrivains cherchent à faire valoir dans l'espace littéraire, reproduisant, à des degrés différents, la performativité du manifeste. Cependant, le discours manifestaire de ces romans s'éloigne de l'usage révolutionnaire du genre par la disparition de renonciation collective, ainsi que par la visée : plutôt que de subvertir les valeurs de l'institution, les romans sont configurés de manière a les soutenir. Nous comparons ces résultats à des études statistiques sur l'évolution du manifeste et à des études de cas ; ceci nous permet d'affirmer que les tendances trouvées dans les romans accompagnent celles du manifeste littéraire en France This study shows how features of the literary manifesto, a genre associated with the avant-garde period, are integrated in three contemporary French novels : Le Caoutchouc décidément (1992) by Éric Chevillard, Tout-monde (1993) by Edouard Glissant and Le Post-exotisme en dix leçons, leçon onze (1998) by Antoine Volodine. The aim of the study is to understand what these features reveal about the way writers today claim a position in the literary field and to determine whether the novels can be considered a continuation of the manifesto genre in present times. To conduct this research in the fîelds of the novel and of the manifesto, a pragmatic approach is applîed. The macro-speech acts that define the manifesto discourse are outlined and the proclamation of a new aesthetic is found to be dominant. To assess the impact of these macro-speech acts in the novels, it is necessary to take into account the authorial ethos, which indicates the writer's position. The analyses expose that the fictional worlds consolidate the aesthetic convictions that the writers seek to assert in the literary field. In fact, to different degrees, the novels reproduce the performativity of the manifesto. However, the manifesto discourse in the novels differs from its original revolutionary form by its loss of the collective enunciation, as well as by its intention : rather than subverting the values of the literary institution, the novels are configured to support them. These results are compared with statistical studies on the evolution of the manifesto genre and with case studies, confirming that the tendencies in the novels correlate with the evolution of the literary manifesto in France
