    Abstract: Intellektuelles Engagement wird in Frankreich häufig mit männlichen Akteuren und einem couragierten Eintreten für die universellen Werte der Aufklärung assoziiert. Schon im frühmodernen Frankreich des 17. Jahrhunderts waren jedoch auch Frauen - entgegen bestehender Standes- und Geschlechterkonventionen - intellektuell tätig. Als Schriftstellerinnen und Salonbetreiberinnen thematisierten einige von ihnen die Ungleichheit von Frauen und Männern und entwarfen Modelle für respektvollere Geschlechterbeziehungen. Eine dieser - sowohl in anerkennendem wie auch in spöttischem Sinne - als "Preziöse" bezeichneten Frauen war die Schriftstellerin Madeleine de Scudéry. Da sie sich in ihrem literarischen Werk und auch in ihren persönlichen Lebensentscheidungen in unkonventioneller und reflektierter Weise mit für Frauen sehr problematischen Themen wie "Bildung", "Ehe" oder "Schreiben und Publizieren" auseinandersetzte, stellt sie gleichzeitig eine Ausnahmefigur ihrer Zeit und den Prototyp einer f

    Abstract: "Dieser Beitrag hat die Plattform Ernst Jandl Online zum Thema. Nach einer Einführung zum österreichischen Schriftsteller Ernst Jandl (1925-2000) und zu bisherigen Ansätzen, sein Leben in verschiedenen Formaten zu präsentieren, wird das Konzept der Plattform dargestellt. Den Ausgangspunkt der Überlegungen bildet dabei die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von verschiedenartigen Egodokumenten zueinander. Ausgehend davon wird das biographietheoretische Konzept der Website skizziert, die sich einerseits auf das Modell der Anti-Biographie (Nye), andererseits auf die historischen Formen der Biobibliographik stützt. Unter Miteinbeziehung der Akteur-Netzwerk-Theorie und Pierre Bourdieus Biographieverständnis werden die konventionellen Ansätze biographischer Narration (Werk- und Leistungsschau, vom Geniegedanken ausgehende Meistererzählung und Entwicklungsgeschichte) hinterfragt und der Versuch beschrieben, sie mit dem datenbasierten Zugang der Plattform zu durchbrechen: Die Zersplitterung des Sub

    Abstract: In his Discipline and Punish (1995), Foucault describes the plague-stricken city where authorities exercised surveillance to control the contagion of the disease. As Foucault states, the first precaution to take was the strict division of space which led to the isolation of dwellers; this spatial partitioning reinforced the notion of pervasive surveillance and paved the way for the modern disciplinary society of which Panopticon was an ideal architectural embodiment. In this paper, we try to show how a combination of the plague-ridden city’s discipline diagrams and Panopticism make the whole scene of Auster's Ghosts. By focusing on the role of writing in power mechanisms depicted in the novel, we illustrate the power-knowledge relations which involve the characters in the process of subjectification and which construct the subject position of the author (Blue) who acts as the (in) visible eye of authority.     Abstract: The War Plays'trilogy (Red, Black and Ignorant, The Tin Can People and Great Peace) presents the scenario of a waste land ‘with apocalyptical shades. The post nuclear environment of the plays reflects the Atmosphere of the historical period when it was written. The beginning of the eighties saw the debate about nuclear weapons and strong discussions about the Thatcher administration in this respect. Edward Bond emerged from a group of left-wing writers who joined the experimental fringe theatre in the 1970s. To make sense of this literature, we turn to content analysis to examine the trends and categorize the burgeoning management research of the past 25 years that uses content analysis. In Red Black and Ignorant characters confront the paradox. Society uses dramatists to create the drama it needs but a dramatist is not a conduit. In this way, following his life’s developments, from his troubled childhood to his frantic life abroad with Nora Barnacle, his literary work and his inspirational sources, we will try to establish whether alcohol consumption hindered or aided his creative process.     Abstract: Autobiographical mode of writing informs the works of many novelists, consciously or unconsciously. There are, however, diverse techniques for formulating these conscious or unconscious autobiographical interpolations in literary works. This essay aims to study the works of Sidonie-Gabreille Colette and Virginia Woolf to trace the nuances of the autobiographical mode in two contemporary female writers from different nations. We do not aim at proving that these two writers deploy the autobiographical mode in their writings, but how similar and different their autobiographical techniques in the creation of fiction are. Therefore, Colette's and Woolf's novels, in general, will be compared and contrasted with an eye on their self-defined strategies for the development of autobiographical fiction

    The Song of Troilus traces the origins of modern authorship in the formal experimentation of medieval writers. Thomas C. Stillinger analyzes a sequence of narrative books that are in some way constructed around lyric poems: Dante's Vita Nuova, Bocaccio's Filostrato, and Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde. The shared aim of these texts, he argues, is to imagine and achieve an unprecedented auctoritas: a "lyric authority" that combines the expressive subjectivity of courtly love poetry with the impersonal authority of Biblical commentary. Each of the three establishes its own formal and intertextual dynamics; in complex and unexpected ways, the hierarchies of Latin learning are charged with erotic force, allowing the creation of a new vernacular Book of Love.The Song of Troilus is a linked series of incisive close readings. Each chapter defines and investigates a range of philological, intertextual, and theoretical problems; in addition to explicating his three principal texts, Stillinger offers important insights into a range of medieval traditions, from Psalm commentary to Trojan historiography to Ricardian political satire. At the same time, The Song of Troilus is a sophisticated narrative of cultural change and a searching meditation on history, desire, and writing.The Song of Troilus is an original and highly readable study of three major medieval texts; it will be of compelling interest to students and scholars of medieval literature, and to all those exploring the history of authorship and the implications of literary form
