    Übersetzte Lyrik zu untersuchen bedeutet, neben der Bewältigung eines Dschungels an Definitionen von Übersetzung, hochkomplexe Arbeit ohne spezialisiertes Werkzeug. Ohne systematisierenden Rahmen ist die Gefahr blinder Flecken in der Übersetzungskritik groß, das Ergebnis nicht immer wissenschaftlich fundiert und für den Leser häufig wenig transparent. Diese Arbeit trägt zur Systematisierung der Übersetzungskritik bei, ohne deren hermeneutische Natur auszublenden: Sie bietet Orientierung in Definitionsfragen und erarbeitet spezifisches Handwerkszeug für umfassende, nachvollziehbare Übersetzungsanalysen und -bewertungen. Der Principles&Parameter-Approach der Generativen Grammatik dient dabei als fruchtbare Metapher für ein Rahmenmodell, das neben relevanten linguistischen auch historische, kulturelle und literaturwissenschaftliche Kriterien für gründliche Übersetzungskritik sowie das produktive shift-Konzept enthält. Zahlreiche Beispiele illustrieren das Modell, das eine Grundlage für weitere Detailforschung liefern kann. Es findet ausführliche Anwendung in der Untersuchung mehrerer Übersetzungen des Gedichtes «If I Could Tell You» von W.H. Auden, dessen komplexe Lyrik häufig ins Deutsche übersetzt, bislang aber wenig untersucht wurde. Auch die Praxis des Literaturübersetzens bleibt nicht außen vor: Ausführliche Interviews mit den renommierten Literaturübersetzern Hanno Helbling (verst. 2005) und Christa Schuenke liefern wichtige Impulse für die systematisierenden Überlegungen. Sie erscheinen hier, wie zwei durch diese Arbeit entstandene Auden-Übersetzungen, erstmalig.

It analyses the different stages of Coleridge's search for a meaningful relation to nature from an uncritical adoption of the eighteenth century conventions in his early poetry to a projectionist view in his poems of 1802. It offers challenging new readings of some of Coleridge's major poems like 'The Ancient Mariner' and 'Dejection: an Ode', and tries to rehabilitate some minor ones, like 'The Picture'. Attention is also paid to his relation with Wordsworth.
