    Abstract: The development of literary/textual analysis is becoming increasingly interdisciplinary; inter-textual, historically and socially-aware, and politically-motivated critical practices. This study is an attempt to show how literary/textual analyses are relied on a number of interrelated, competing and methodological political arrangements. In brief, this article is an account of the development of critically and politically-aware practices of literary analysis and implicitly inculcate that how literary analysis can be done employing political interpretations. Hence, some key concepts for critical practice of literary analysis such as interdiscourse, intertextuality, ideology negotiation and feminist/political criticisms of literature are investigated. Finally, an example of a politically committed analysis of literature is provided to show how theoretical foundations function in practice

    Looking at its subject from the standpoint of modern discourse analysis, this study deals with problems of style and grammar in Greek and Latin texts. Its aim is to shed light on the interaction between the mechanism of the Greek and Latin languages as interactive tools and the structure of the texts that have come down to us. The interpretive orientation offered differs from most literary studies in its taking linguistic observations as point of departure, and its considering grammar as a positive factor in the interpretive process. It differs from most linguistic studies in the field in demonstrating the importance of linguistic methodology for classical philology in general. The book contains explorations of various authors, genres, and text types, preceded by an introductory essay on the role of grammar in philology.

    There are ghosts. At least, in "Hamlet" there are. This is an example of a fictional truth, of something true in a fiction. Or so it seems. For, once we broaden our view to all kinds and realms of fiction our ordinary notions are challenged, and intriguing philosophical questions arise. Are there really any fictional truths? How can they be determined? Is everything just interpretation? Can anything be fictional? Could you be part of a fiction? Et cetera. The philosophical literature on fiction typically focusses on the semantics of fictional discourse and the ontology of fictional objects. In contrast, this study explores the nature of fictional truth by analyzing its conceptual structure and by unfolding some of its most important conceptual connections. After reviewing the field and identifying core elements that any theory of fictional truth must accommodate Christian Folde investigates several interrelated issues central to the on-going debates. Building on a clear account of fictional content and a wealth of examples the author offers novel solutions to various problems at the intersection of fictional truth, interpretation, and narration. The book thereby makes contributions to aesthetics, metaphysics and literary theory, among other things, and is thus both of philosophical and interdisciplinary value.

    "What is the meaning of a word?" In this thought-provoking book, G. L. Hagberg demonstrates how this question - which initiated Wittgenstein's later work in the philosophy of language - is significant for our understanding not only of linguistic meaning but of the meaning of works of art and literature as well. Adopting a Wittgensteinian method in close readings of the short fiction of Henry James, Hagberg reveals how literary interpretation itself may be practiced as a form of philosophical investigation. Hagberg first considers in detail Wittgenstein's views on meaning, particularly such notoriously difficult central concepts as the "language-game" and the "form of life." He uncovers in Wittgenstein's philosophy the interrelations between linguistic and artistic "microcosms," between verbal and stylistic coherence, between linguistic and artistic limits to what may be expressed, and between general meaning and aesthetic significance. Fundamentally, Hagberg examines Wittgenstein's account of the importance of particularized usage and of context in determining the meaning of word or work of art. In his interpretation of James's short fiction, Hagberg rethinks such problems as the widely assumed but misleading distinction between interpretive perception and description. In addition, he draws striking parallels between the complex processes of coming to understand a person and of coming to understand a work of art. Throughout, Hagberg demonstrates a heightened sensitivity to the powerful influence on aesthetic thinking of formulations of questions that are too often accepted as given.
